NPA-NXX shows Adairsville - but you are correct - it could be spoofed.

They called again. Multiple days in a row. We never answer. No message
EVS 2014-03-29 18:21:58 Unknown
Each exchange has a location code to pinpoint where the telephone equipment is located...that may be why it says Adairsville.

I wonder if we try telling them that person moved out, and offer the new number, and then give them their own number from the caller ID, if that would cause them any complications. Or maybe claim to have the issue they are soliciting for and ask for money from them? Nothing seems to deter them.

Do Not Call list doesn't apply to political and charity calls. They can call and bother us as much as they want to. The Do Not Call list is a joke and doesn't work.

Recd all 8:10 am EST to my AT&T landline. Caller ID reads: CHILDRENS CANCE
No msg left.
I get about 20 or so spam calls a month. Don't pick up anymore.

Yet, another phone call from SCAMMERS hidden behind Children's Cancer. I have asked these people to stop calling here over and over and it has not done any good. They keep on calling.
You will never get anything from me because I donate to people I know. You will not leave a message ever. That tells me something. You beat around the bush when asked questions. SO STOP calling here.

There are 159 Counties in Georgia, Of those, over 30 use the 678 is the area code. I can assure you, that is a LOT of cities! The area code and number are quite obviously spoofed.

Folks, it's simple. If you have caller ID, don't pick up if you don't know the number. No fuss, no lies. PS most phones allow you to turn the ringer down and even "Off" if you don't want to be bothered at times like meals or your favorite TV show. Problem is when you're like my country bumpkin S-I-L when your curiosity out weighs your common sense and you answer the dumb calls.

Idiot scammers trying to get me to pick up the phone because it says "childrens cancer". Good luck on that one a**holes! You will NEVER play on my sympathies, hell, I don't have any.
Manny 2014-02-18 18:19:26 Unknown
It's a frigging spoofed number for crying out loud! Just how do you expect your lawyer to do anything???????

Educating them is the problem! They don't want to know. They assume and go right along with their sorry lives......

I agree, it is so very sad that there are so many scammers and liars out there, and they do need to be stopped. As to the solution? I wish with all my heart I had one.

Seriously??? When are you people going to learn??? The callers are NOT from Adairsville. The number is a spoofed one, so slow down, get off your high horse and stop assuming things you know nothing about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woman soliciting a donation of a minimum of $40 to help these poor children. I told her I would check out her organization and make a decision after that and looking over the "paperwork" she would be mailing to me. I also said I would ask my friend who is a pediatrician in the Atlanta area about the organization. She was adamant about getting me to commit to at least $40 and told her I would not commit to anything over the phone. Obviously not a real organization trying to help children with cancer!
JANE 2014-01-31 18:40:25 Unknown
Same old SCAMMERS. Calling and representing themselves as Children's Cancer but still will not leave a message.
NOT INTERESTED IN SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!

Also getting calls from this number regarding solicitation of funds. My husband told them we were broke and getting food from the food bank to survive. She hung up. However, when I answer the phone for these type of calls, I usually tell them I am on the do not call list and if they do not remove my number, I am going to contact the FCC with their number and file federal charges. They normally don't call back.
DaveC 2014-01-21 16:32:44 Unknown
Looked up The Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation. It's legit, kinda. Their ratings on charity nav sites are abysmal. I'd never give to them. From what I've read elsewhere, if you answer and ask them to send a mailing, they will.
They also have 800 number type phone solicitations. Almost all these calls are farmed out (hence the 678 exchange number). MDS and Telefund are just a couple of them. The solicitors keep up to 85% of the funds collected for legit charities.
DaveC 2014-01-21 16:13:49 Unknown
@geoff is correct in saying, "...you need to go to the DNC Site, and do some reading. If you're expecting it to screen, sort, block...The Registry is just to provide legitimate businesses with a list of those who do not want to be called...Go to the DNC and opt out of the service.." And see what happens.
Contrary to what many on this and other number complaint web sites think, filing complaints at the FTC DNC web site does work...IF they get enough complaints about a particular number. However, many times the scammers just move to a different number before the FTC can act.

This group has usually called while I was at work - but on my day off they called BEFORE 8:30 AM - hit button to answer and then off to cut them off. I am so tired of these kind of calls - a call from someone just came up CHARITY one day.
Do Not Call has charities as an exception along with surveys.

For the past 3 months or so, these people call almost every other week. They always ask for my husband and if I say he's not here then they claim they were looking to speak to me as well. First time was AFTER 9PM during the week and asking for donations for a police department to help families with children get I.D. kits. Told them no. Received the same call from a different person a few days later. Then it was breast cancer, and now it's children's cancer. When I told the lady "No I'm sorry, we can't donate at this time" she proceeded with "Well, you should really think about what these kids are having to go through and I'll send you a pledge card you can give $20". Um excuse me? I told her again, NO, we cannot do it. She quickly said "Okay thank you have a nice day" and hung up. Give it up already. I'm glad I read through these comments though to see these people are not legit. However I do like the air horn idea that someone mentioned ;)

Jane you can just about tell by looking at the phone IDer. Because about 99% of the
calls you get like that are spam. I know, the National Do Not Call List don't seem to
work, but I report them anyway.
Mathra 2013-10-19 15:40:59 Unknown
Caller claims to be from Childrens Cancer something or another, asked for a donation so I politely said NO, then she tried to start up the quilt trip conversation. So I politely informed that I will only donate to legit charities. Truly believe these folks are just scam artists.

Whoa, folks why so down on Adairsville, Georgia? You have never heard of ''Caller ID spoofing''?
Educate yourselves some, you might find life a little easier.
Sir Bedevere 2013-10-05 01:11:03 Unknown
You made the right decision. The Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation is a "charity" in only the most tenuous sense. Only about 20% of what you give them really goes to the cause ? the rest goes to "overhead, etc."
In fact, almost all telephone solicitations for charity should be ignored: Most charities can't afford to maintain their own telephone fundraising activities so they farm them out. The businesses they farm them out to always take a big cut. That's why the person who called you was so resistant to the idea of you mailing in a check: If you did that the *charity* would get all the money and the people on the phone don't want that!
I always check with Charity Navigator (http://www.charitynavigator.org) to verify the credentials of any charity before giving money. And then I only donate through the charity's own web page.
Personally, I recommend the National Childhood Cancer Foundation (NCCF), which has a 4-star rating (the highest) or the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Jimmy Fund (also 4 stars) for pediatric cancer charities.
www.curesearch.org
www.dana-farber.org
I've given money to both and neither one has ever phoned me, even after receiving the donation and getting my phone number. But as long as you vet charities through CharityNavigator and go with ones rated 3-1/2 stars or better you should be OK.

I received a call from 678-918-4908 tonight. I normally don?t answer calls unless I know the name or number on the caller ID, but I answered without looking this time. The lady didn?t say her name but said she was calling from Children?s Cancer Recovery Network and asked if she could put me down for a $20 donation. I told her that if she mailed some information I would consider making a donation. She then said that since this was a charity she had to put me down for some dollar amount to mail me something (which sounded fishy). She said she could tell in my voice that I wanted to help and asked if she could put me down for $15 for the minimum amount. I asked the name of the organization again and told her I was wary of donating to organizations that I have never heard of, but if she would mail me information so that I could look it up and make sure it was legitimate, I would consider making a donation. Instead of agreeing, she then said good night and hung up! I then looked up the name of the organization and found this site. I?m glad I didn?t give agree to give any donations since I believe this was a scam call. A legitimate organization could have mailed me some information without demanding a donation first and provided a tax ID number or something to look up. After the call I looked up the number and the caller ID said "Children's Cancer," but names on caller IDs can be faked.
