I always tell them I will be in the immediate area in the next few days and will just drive it home as soon as I get enough info to submit to the above mentioned agencies.

I just got the same thing here! I was already suspicious before they emailed back because of the lowball price. I didn't even ask for a phone number. They posted the 04 Toyota Celica in the Kansas City Craigslist. All I had to do was google the name Debra cotton and this came up. Thanks! Hopefully someone catches these guys soon!

Same scammer contacted me but had a different story. I replied to an ad for 04 jeep Cherokee with 58,000 miles only $2,200. Couple days later I got a return email from dcot88@gmail.com claiming to be Debra cotton. The jeep was supposed to be located in Minot, ND and her husband mark cotton works for an automobile shipping co. So they would be able to ship me the vehicle for free and to try and make me feel safe they wanted to do the deal through eBay so everything goes smooth and I don't have to make any payments until I inspected the vehicle. Needless to say I was very suspicious after read this so I googled information I got off the email and quickly found this site so I later replied that I was in the recovery business and i too had the capability to transport a vehicle so I want to pick it up and pay him in cash or no deal. Haven't heard from them since. I do want to thank everyone for their posts reporting this scam. I was able to find out very quickly that I was dealing with a scammer. If u read this and are dealing with the same scumbag then please post your own experience with him for the next would be sucker to read cause he seems to be changing up his backstory. Make it easier for people to find info on this scum of the earth. My family does own a investigations and recovery business, so I'm gonna use info i read from all of your notes and see if I can find his identity and find out if he has any actual victims that fell for his crap, then get him locked up. I'll post whatever I found out.

The first tip off is the subject line of the E-mail. In many examples the scammers usually just copy and paste your item description directly into the subject line of the E-mail. Second big tip off is in regards to shipping. The scammers almost always offer to take care of arranging shipping themselves. They may also mention paying with a Cashier's Check or PayPal in the initial or second E-mail. Suspicious E-mails may also use all capital letters, have bad spelling, request more contact or banking info from you, will not be concerned with the condition or price of the car, and will probably claim to be a re-seller or agent for someone else. If any of these things are in an E-mail you receive you have a scammer on your hands!
Additionally, if the buyer is claiming he is at sea at the moment / overseas on a " military" mission and related nonsense.....and has limited access to the internet, it is a scam. They will most likely be using a free E-mail service as well. Yahoo, Hotmail and Gmail are common ones but there are many more worldwide. I was on the same situation here, i am interested on find a cheap range rover so i founds this people offering one 2003 at $2500 and then one 2006 at $7500 so i started emailed then but its all b***s***. In attempt to find a cheap Land Rover Range Rover HSE, I stumbled upon a Craigslist's selling of a 2003 model in perfect condition, selling for $2,770 (shipping included.) The couple goes by the names Debra and John Roberts. I had emailed the wife and asked her why she is selling for so cheap. She responded with:

I saw a car from Lt. Andrew Scott on Craigslist for a toyota 1998 and he emailed me that he couldnt talk because he was on a government computer with no phone available. The email he sent me was basically the same as other listed above. This is a SCAM!
He said 1500 takes the car but only thru ebay and he will ship for free. When I offered him 1300 and a reletaive to pick up the car and save him shipping costs he fell off the planet. Guess Why? Clearly this is the same guy scamming everyone. Offer to come pick it up from him and you wont hear from him! Guaranteed!!

The same thing happened to me. I had a lot of red flags going up so I talked to eBay and they said they were pretty sure it was a scam. For me he called himself 'Lt. Andrew Yates'. He was selling a '06 Prius for $5k and it was decked out. Gave me a VIN number, pictures, everything.
Luckily I told him I wanted to talk to him on the phone, which is when he gave me this number and I googled it. Thanks to everyone who posted on here. Gave me that last bit of conviction that this guy is full of beans.

I am in the same situation too. This guys is such a liar. He posts pictures of cars up for sale and then he claims that he has special situations which make him unable to keep the car anymore. What a liar. He changed his name twice on me. He actually went on to give me his phone number. I'm gonna give it to the cops and see if he'll ever show up again. Please be aware of this guy. He also claims that he wants to use ebay's buyer protection transaction. It all sounds like a safe transaction, right? Well I contacted Ebay and the representative told me that this is too often a scam. What's true is that, yes, you can do a transaction through ebay and ebay will recognize it. However, there's a loop hole in favor of the scammers. Since the ad isn't posted on ebay, ebay is not liable for anything. This guy is smart, but not smart enough. I have his phone number too. I've told this guy to put his vehicle on ebay before I would buy it, yet he keeps insisting on his same old story. He keeps saying that if I don't buy it then the car will be sold soon. LOL. If he's gonna sell his car, why can't he just sell it on ebay or craigslist like a real person? Why can't he make it local? If the car is real, and the price that he offers is real, then there will definitely be people buying in his area. He doesn't have to spend money to ship it somewhere else. He's such a dumb a**. People who fall for this will be the most stupid people too. If it's too good to be true, then it is.

I knew it couldn't be real but I thought what the heck, lets see how far we can take this. And when I asked for his number I was really suprised he actually gave it to me. Look out people.
