Just received a call from a Jay Adams (so he said) from 415-251-8361. Although he had a very thick Indian accent, he claimed he was from the investigation department of the IRS in San Francisco. He first asked if I had an attorney so he could send a legal affidavit. I said I didn't have an attorney. He then asked what attorney do I want to us because he had a legal affidavit that accuses me of owing over $15k in back taxes. Knowing that the IRS only sends notices by mail, I asked him why he couldn't send me the affidavit and why is this the first time I'm hearing about this. He didn't answer my first question but claimed that a  certified letter was sent to an old address. He asked for my new address but I refused. I then asked him to verify the last 4 digits of my SS # and he refused for some reason that I couldn't understand. At that point, he told me that I would be arrested that very day and that my wages would be garnished, pass port taken away and some other BS. At that point, I told him that I was going to contact the IRS myself and ask him for his address in SF...Of course, he gave me the official SF office address that anyone can find on the IRS website. Most of what I have read seems to coming from North Dakota....Has anyone received a call like this from this number 415-251-8361. If so, hang up and report it to the Inspector General of the IRS and the FTC.

Since I didn't recognize the number, I picked up the phone for 2-3 seconds without saying anything and then hung up.  That way they had to pay for the call.  It it had been important or personal, I'm sure they would have called back.

I ALSO RECEIVED A CALL FROM A MAN(SPANISH ACCENT) SAYING HE WAS FROM THE IRS AND WANTED TO GIVE ME MONEY--HE NEEDED MY CHECKING ACCOUNT NUMBER--I TOLD HIM I DIDN'T AHVE A CHECKING ACCOUNT----ALSO RECEIVED CALLS ON JAN.7, JAN.8 AND THE 14TH..AGAIN ON FEB.20TH..WHEN I CALLED BACK, THE MESSAGE SAID THE NUMBER YOU HAVE REACHED IS NOT IN SERVICE-THIS IS A RECORDING-

I just received a call from this number, as well as from 516-882-266563147..which i know is an insanely long number but i had already recieved these calls at around the same time last year (right now it is 2/7/09). I hung up on him and told him not to call me ever again and he called me right back! and then I let him talk for a minute or so again and he called me back using the 701 number. I asked him politely the first time, and the second time I told him if he calls me again I'm going to call the police. I'm just not sure what they can do about it though. Last year when they called me the guy KEPT calling me, once telling me he loved me and everything else, another time swearing at me.

NEVER give your personal information (bank account numbers, routing numbers, credit/debit card numbers, Social Security number, date or place of birth, mother's maiden name, etc.) to ANYONE who telephones you.

Reputable agencies will contact you via postal mail.

If ANYONE attempts to get your personal information, HANG UP IMMEDIATELY.

If you are told that you have money coming to you, or that you have won a sweepstakes or a prize, ask the caller to send you confirmation of your prize in the mail. Ask for their name and ID number, their telephone number and extension number, the name of their immediate supervisor, the name of their company/agency, the address of their company/agency, and the phone number of their company/agency. Then, tell them you will call them back AFTER you have verified this information. Say goodbye, and HANG UP.

Verify the information you were given - Google the company/agency, their address and phone number, etc. Call the company directly (using the main phone number found on Google) and ask them to confirm any and all information you were given.

If at any time you are asked to send ANY amount of money (taxes, fees, shipping charges, etc.) - HANG UP. Legitimate agencies will NEVER ask you for ANY money.

Just received a call from this number, saying they were some sort of alarm company. I told him we already had an alarm system and to take me off their list. The guy was some sort of foreigner.

I just got a call from this number...on my cell phone telling me that I was one of 15,000 TAXPAYERS that were selected to receive a grant from "The Government" of $7000.00.  He (a man with a heavy Indian accent) needed my bank account numbers to have the money deposited into my account.  I told him I'd be happy to accept a CHECK for the grant, but I was not giving out ANY account info.  He insisted that "The Government" can't issue checks for grants, only wire transfers.  I told him no thanks, then he got even more excited, so I just hung up on him.  They then called back four times and I just turned my phone OFF.

Got a  call on Dec.16, 2008.  A man from India said the IRS wanted to reward me for paying my taxes early. All I had to do was give him my bank info. I said I didn't have a bank account, but they could send it to my house since they already had the address. He said "oh no no they would be unsafe, it could get lost" I said I would take my chances. we went back and forth for a while but i finally just hung up.

My son answered the phone and the person asked to speak to me.  He gave me the phone and there was silence on the other end.  After 30 seconds, the line disconnected.  I have been on the do not call list for quite a long time so I shouldn't get these calls.

Apparently a payday loan service. But wanted my account# and debit card information. NO CAN DO!

wow! they called - I didn't get the phone in time - no message left.

calls about us. govt. grants of 5000.00 for paying taxes on time. Wanted personal info and had much of it although i did not relinquish any willingly.
tried to get account numbers to "deposit" 5000.00 to my account. i told them that the last time the GOVT wanted to give me a rebate, they SENT ME A CHECK. if they could not do that then the conversation was over. Got rude and was told to f-off.

who can we report this to?

Received a call from this number tonight at 7:30.  He had my first name and said I was receiving Medicare and tried to verify I was.  I don't receive Medicare and I asked who he was and he said he was Chris from some company in Washington, D.C., trying to sound official.  He had a very heavy Indian sounding accent.  I told him he he had the wrong info and hung up on him.  I was suspicious from the start and looked online and found out from all of you I had a right to be.  Thanks.

I recieved 3 calls from 7012212212 on my cell phone which should have gave me a clue.They say they are from PFFS and they have a web site it's to consolidate your bills It sounded like it was on the up and up so they pulled up my credit from trans union and proceeded to tell me they are associated with all the creditors and that they could reduce my debt by $121.00 a month but when they told me they had to take my monthly payments from my checking account I got suspicious and went onto google where I see thanks too these good people who reported them they are a SCAM and they try to get you to go with them usually reputable bussinesses are not this pushy they even gave me a number to call BBB with and ID # when I called BBB they were located in Florida and had no record of the company or what kind of ID they were talking about.PLEASE DON'T FALL FOR THIS FOLKS IT'S A BIG SCAM AND IT'S SOUNDS REAL.

I got this call in the late afternoon. The number showed, but the Caller ID said "Unknown Caller". I answered, said hello, silence for a second, then the line was ringing. I hung up.

This f***ot was asking for someone who doesnt live here so i went straight to f***in with the telemarketer. Called him out on being asian not from America and then he got mad and called me a f***in f***ot with a bloody a**hole and a f***in b***h before he hung up on me. What a pussy report them to the Better Business Bureau ASAP so they get a trail on this number because its obvious phone scamming and i do legitimate sales on the phone for AT&T and these guys give us a bad name. Thanks.

From san diego--called talking about filling a medical perscription, a man with an indian accent-I informed him I was on the "national do not call list" he hung up. When I called back I got a recording that "the number was not in service." Is anyone turning the number in to the national do not call registry?

every other day I get  a call from this number and they hang up when I say hello.

I have been receiving these calls every day for the last week.
If I receive another call I am going to initiate "call trace" through my phone company, and then file a report with the attorney generals office. I am tired of telemarketers and scammers and thought after the "do not call" list that I was finally free. Guess not.

I also rec'd a call from this same number. I am in New Jersey.  Definetly an India speaking man, very difficut to understand.  He claimed he was calling about my new "Medical Card".  He claimed Medicare would not pay my medical bills unless I had this new card.  He had my name and address correct. It sounded fishy to me so I started asking him questions and telling I couldn't understand him,  He just kept talking about me "registering",  I do not know what he meant by that.  Finally I said I can't understand you, you have my address, mail me the information and I hung up.  Two seconds later, the phone rang again, I made my husband answer it,  he told my husband, "Sir your wife is a b**ch"  and hung up.
I tried calling back the number and recording came on saying "out of service"
Looks like they changed their method, IRS scam was not working.  Be careful.

I don't answer the call because I check numbers with "who calls me" if the number isn't familiar. Usually get about 2-3 of them a day.

We got a call from this number and they tried to get bank account and Social Security number information from my mother saying that they needed it to send her new medical cards.  When she refused they got very nasty and threatened to cut off her Medicare benefits.  She contacted the Social Security Administration and gave them the little information that the caller was willing to provide, which included a Rutgers University campus address in Piscataway, New Jersey.  She was referred to the Inspector General Fraud Hotline and they said they have had multiple complaint calls about this happening and have it under investigation.  So beware!

This number calls me EVERYDAY.  DO NOT PICK UP the phone, DO NOT engage in conversation.  Most scams start off with arguments to keep you on the phone long enough to transfer third party calls using your active line.  DO NOT PICK UP.

Called about an hour ago (7:30pm EST). Male with thick, Indian (or Pakistani) accent. He knew my name and said something about a medical card. I think. I couldn't understand him, so I hung up after a few minutes. Had a feeling it was a scam. Looked up the number and ended up here. I was right. Hope the IRS catches these guys before they victimize anybody.
