These worthless scammers actually put "MARKETING FRAUD" on their caller ID. No, I am not making this up. The word douche-tards does not even begin to do justice to these blithering idiots. May the Lord have mercy on them if I ever locate them......

Prank Call
I have a couple of ways to deal with these parasites. First, I let the phone ring three full times before I pick up. I pick up and don't say anything for 2-3 seconds. If it is a computer autodialer, 80-90% of the time the computer will hang up thinking it has gotten a voice mail or answering machine. After 2-3 seconds, I say our company name, but don't give out my name. That way they don't automatically have a name if they call back and get someone else. If I still get a person and they insist, I tell them my name is "Richard Smith"(it's not). It is none of their business what my real name is, they are telescammers who are breaking the law. If they persist in calling over and over again, I tell them that my boss is available, and then I use a sports air horn right next to the phone. What are they going to do, sue me? "Your Honor, I was illegally telescamming and they deafened me!" Good luck with THAT argument. The judge might give me a medal. Reporting these "people"(I use that term loosely) to the Do Not Call Registry is futile, they are usually spoofing their phone number anyway. If you have the time, have some fun with them. See how long they will stay on hold or still be on the line if you put the phone down. Take your cordless into the bathroom and have an extended "deposit" at the Porcelain Bank, complete with very loud fake sound effects. Tell them you ARE the boss and listen to their sales pitch, never saying yes to anything, but always saying that you will look at your numbers and see what you can do. Some scammers will record any affirmative answer you give and then splice it into a call and bill you for whatever they are selling, using that as evidence of an order. Waste as much of their time as you can, because that keeps them from scamming other people, and it can be a really fun stress reliever! Anything that we can do to make this less profitable for these ticks on the butt of humanity is a plus. Feel free to pass this on or add to it with your fun ways of taking back your phone lines. If these idiots would get a real job, the world would be a better place for all of us.

I listed this as prank call because we don't have a choice for "telescammer" or "scam call". This was some recording, but I didn't hang on and listen to it.

Assuming your information regarding regarding the "dip fee," also known as CNAM is accurate, then it is futile to use call blocking, since it takes approximately the equivalent of two rings for the CID to feed, be registered and the call block activated. So that interval after CID and before line seize and delayed disconnect is sufficient for the $0.025 payoff. Nonetheless, call blocking relieves a called party of having to answer the phone. It used to be said "there ought to be a law." Since there are laws to prohibit this, it should be said "enforce the law." By observation the FTC, FCC, Justice Department and the States Attorney Generals have little time, resources or interest in enforcement.

As far as playing along, it might be "fun" for a while, but the poor dopes who are being duped are so much fodder for their crooked employers who likely have no concern for them. In other words, goofing with these folks is as much of waste of time for you (us) as it is for them.

I'm tired of these annoyance calls from #701-248-1374!  I have tried using Call Block Service; however, the same party/number is still able to place calls to my private/unlisted home phone #.  How is that possible?  What is the whole point of paying extra for an unlisted phone number and adding Call Block to your service,  when you keep getting harassed by the same idiots!  Why do they have rights when the rest of us don't?  Something's wrong with this picture ... don't you think!

We have received 10 calls from this number. We answer and they hang up. When we call the number back it asks me to press 1 to be put on a do not call list. I pressed 1 about a week ago and we are still receiving calls.

The caller ID is INSACCOUNT 701-248-1374

fter a few long rambling messages on Slackman's answering machine, I have now gone a full 24 hours without a phone call from HIFE.

CallerID4u is a fake telco that exists primarily to exploit database access fees. They get paid a quarter of a cent for each call where the name shows up on your Caller ID box. They, in turn, give the first-line telemarketers almost a tenth of a cent for each call that triggers a Caller ID lookup. That's why they keep calling even when I swear at them - they're paid if the call makes it to the second ring, and getting an actual prospect is just gravy.

If HIFE is structured the usual way, the first person you talk to doesn't actually work for HIFE - rather, they work with the robodialer operator. Their company gets $8 or so for each prospect they forward to a licensed agent. So, what we need to do if we want them to knock it off is make calling us cost more money than it makes.

Step one: when the robodialer calls, press 1 and speak to the live operator. The time it takes for them to collect your name is enough to outweigh the tenth of a cent CallerID4u gives them. That's not enough to outweigh the $8 or so for sending a prospect to HIFE, though. So - feign interest. Give them fake info and let them transfer you to a licensed agent. String the licensed agent along for as long as you have patience - then tell them that you're Jherek Carnelian. The agent will flip out - they hate me, and they've given the first-line telemarketers enough grief that they actually hang up when they recognize my voice, which tells me that they aren't getting paid for Jherek Carnelian any more.

I'd appreciate hearing the tape if you get any particularly interesting flip-outs from the marketers, too. :)

It's not just about deceptive telemarketing. Paul's operations are actually making money from your phone company by charging them the "dip fee" that is required for them display the Caller ID information. Since this fee is less than a penny, the companies have to make MILLIONS of calls for the fees to add up. It doesn't even matter if you answer the phone or not because Paul makes money just from having the call placed and having the Caller ID displayed. That's why the calls are so numerous and so repetitive.  It appears that the FCC will never stop him. But I would not be surprised if some individual somewhere eventually took matters into their own hands.

I suspect that they are one of the same.
