I called the number back and it asked me to enter my number and confirm
if I wanted to be removed from the list. I did enter my number, but probably shouldn't have.
The message left was a lady's voice saying that they were calling to verify what I don't know
and that they would call back.
I live in Hudson MA.

I wasn't home when the call came in, so they left an automated message.  However it didn't wait for the beep and started "talking" during my Greeting... so all I have on my answering machine is "...and we will call you back later.  Thank you"

Speculation: Someone else here suggested phone book related, and a new phone book was delivered to my house last week.  However I don't know who actually called or what it was about.

I have been getting calls from this number for weeks and it is quite annoying. It calls almost every day.

I did start ordering SF Chronicle some time though, so I'm not really sure if I should start answering or not...

Similar to Amber who posted on May 28 2011, I also have received multiple calls/day from this number, and have received calls over several months, sometimes nearly daily. I have no ties to or in ND or TX. And like many who have posted, my name is on the DO NOT CALL list. Time to revisit that list and re-add my #. Safest to not answer ANY call where you don't recognize the number--you can always call back after doing some checking, or listening to a voicemail.

Recevied two calls in the same day. Did not answer and wont after reading all these posts. I live in CA and have nothing to do with TX or ND.

They have been calling my home multiple times a day leaving a message stating "they will call back later". No recent subscriptions, so now I gotta figure out how to block them on my landline. Have AT&T, anyone know an easy way to do this?

Same thing here in Maryland.... its obviously a scam.

I live in Eastern Pennsylvania, and received this call today, not sure whether they or somebody else left a "message" -- my service said there was a message, but it was blank "air." Have not recently subscribed to any newspapers, unless my husband renewed his sub.

Got a call last night at around 8pm but didnt answer.  Automated voice message saying "This is a service verification, we will call back"  I have no idea who they are.....

Received recorded message as above July 11, mid afternoon. I live in NYS and have not recently subscribed to any papers, so have no idea what this is regarding. Agree with others that it sounds like a scam. Showed up as "Verification FR" on Caller ID.

Didn't answer.  Message left was incomplete but did include "verification service".  I live in WA state and don't subscribe to any newspapers or magazines.  I'm also on the "do not call" list.  Sounds like another scam to get credit card/personal info.  Beware.

They left a message and said they would call back.  It was an automated voice (machine). I'm wondering why the No Call List doesn't apply to this kind of call.......

They keep calling my phone my husbands phone and im sick of it. If I dont know you or dont recognize the number im not answering!!

AFTER A MILLION CALLS I ANSWERED AND LADY STATED THEY WERE SURVEYING TO DETERMINE IF  YOU HAVE A YELLOW PAGES BOOK. I BLOCKED THE NUMBER.

Got a call..answered a woman asked for me by name, I said no. She questioned me. Is this not the household of ****** I said no. She then said is this the number for ****** this was my home address. She was making in on my cell.

Called twice in 3 days. No message left. I do not answer calls i dont know. Do have a Houston Chronicle subscription but paid online and do not give out info over the phone. Will be blocking. My question is why would they be based in ND if it is about something based in Tx. Prob a scam but wont kniw cuz i will not be answering.

Said he was from the Valley Times and wanted to confirm my subscription and that I was receiving delivery.  Then said wanted to let me know they do convenient credit card payments and asked what card I wanted to use.  I told him I already paid online when I ordered the service.  Then he asked for my email address for updates and special offers.  I told him they already have my email because I get daily updates.  Then he tried to get off the phone and I aksed for his number.  He gave me a bogus phone number.  SCAMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do not give this number information!!!   They called and said that the Houston chronicle no longer accepts credit card payments.  When I called the Houston chronicle one of the options is to make a credit card payment.  Scam!!

Stated the caller was checking the verification of delivery of phone directories in my area. Mumbled the company name when the caller identified themselves and wouldn't repeat the company name.

called left message stating a verfication services, told me they would call back. live in Mass. I will be blocking call.
