Prank Call
5th call in a week.  Really, really don't understand how a scam can be run this incompetently.  Surely there's a benefit in not calling the same person over and over?  It's not like I'm suddenly going to get stupid and fall for their scam.

Prank Call
Pressed to talk to an operator.  Women answer, whom I proceeded to give a list of things I'd like to do to her carpet.  She used profanity at me and then hung up.  Very unprofessional.

These CRIMINALS should be avoided at all costs, especially avoiding a service call where they have your address! Use selective call forwarding to never here a phone call from that annoying number again. It is included with all phone companies for free. Just use any U.S. domestic number so you don't get charged roaming or even re-route the number to someone you dislike i.e. PawnStars. You're number never shows up on the recepients phone just the original caller. Hopefully more people become aware of this particular call forwarding service so you can screen selected numbers. Enjoy.

Don't break your phone slamming it on them.... rather JUST  MAKE THE CLEANING APPOINTMENT.... at a neighbors address. I just missed their call again, i am sure i will soon be getting my (neighbors) 3rd cleaning housecall in as many weeks.... SURELY they will soon be getting complaints from the cleaning companies they farm these jobs for. They only charge 60.00$$ to do the whole house, so driving all the way out here for nothing must get them 'steamed!'
Also, the driver that called me pre-appointment MUST be illegal, as he didn't even offer his name, much less the company name.... I THOUGHT it was my buddy, so i told him about my morning, and agreed to meet him here in an hour!!

omg it was so funny after i realized.....

Point is.... have some fun with them... not worth a heart attack   =]]

Yes!!!!! Never.....Ever......let a person tunnel in.
Unfortunately my dad is 78, impatient, loves facebook bingo, and while I was taking a breather, a deep breather after restoring and all the update reinstalling that entails for the 3rd time, he forgot his password for his email.
My mom caught him on the phone to these yeerahs, as he's allowed them to tunnel in (2nd time in 2 weeks) because after he'd called our ISP, they called him 2-3 minutes later. He thought it was Century Link again.

These people seem to have some cookies/trackers??? And tend to prey on older people. Unfortunately, I share a home network with this loveable, but way too trusting bingo nut.
I'm trying to get our little "gang" excited about being offline a couple days while I wipe our pc's clean and reset our router.

It's scary how much information they have, and how slick they are at approaching at the moment you think they might be legit.

I'd like to know if anyone has had this # call for the pc "services" AKA, mess up your computer and offer to fix it for $$$$.

Never allow ANYONE to tunnel into your computer! There is also a scam service out there that claims to be "cleaning up" your PC. They take control of your PC while they have you on the phone, claim to be removing viruses, but in reality they are INFECTING your machine. If you suspect that this is happening to you, shut your machine down FAST before they do too much damage.

It was Diane again from Carpet Tech.  She wants to clean two rooms and will clean the adjoining hallway for FREE.  I have stayed on the line numerous times, asking them not to call back.  They always hang up. Very frustrating.

I'm interested to hear you all talking about this # being a carpet cleaning service. I've just restored my dad's computer for the 4th time in 2 weeks. The first time after worries about junk coming in from facebook bingo games and such. At one point he had 7-8 toolbars taking up nearly half his screen.
After the first restore he was resetting his passwords per my suggestion. Please note the machine was factory spec, I had done all the windows svc packs, upgrades for both windows and Norton's antivirus.
When he went to his email to get his email reset link he got a popup giving him 1-800-704-8416 for further assistance. He called and allowed them to tunnel into his pc.
After that, I couldn't update, uninstall, reinstall Norton's or run WIndows updates.
Restored again, (this is time consuming getting up to snuff on a 7 year old pc)
Still acted funky, did a full format of the harddrive and again restored the pc.
Did updates
The computer wouldn't come up at all the next day, hung up on HP login. Tried safemode etc. Nada...
So yesterday, I again reformatted the harddrive, reinstalled software, ran all the updates on windows and Nortons. Was assured by Nortons that this could only be affecting his machine, not the rest of the familie's home networked with his.
Had to reset his password for our ISP and his email. It wasn't working so he called our provider, Century Link. They helped reset his account, change password, etc.
A few minutes later he got a phone call from 801-671-9123 the person said that they'd heard he was having problems with his email password. Dad assumed it was Century Link calling back, otherwise how would anyone know that? Dad allowed them to tunnel into his computer.  They offered to clean his freshly cleaned  and updated computer. He asked sarcastically if they wanted 200.00 per the prior company. "Why no!!! They would fix his perfectly clean updated computer for a mere 149.50. That's when my mom walked in and got a bit loud and asked who and what this company was. She also said (again loudly) that we'd probably have to make another report to the FBI (they're the people who track this sort of thing)
So there ya have it. I have no idea what they did to his pc. I did call Norton's, got the tech supervisor on and he installed the newest bestest Norton's software with all updates. Checked and saId the machine was clean.
But who knows? Once one computer in a network is compromised whoever has access to all other machines in that network.
Just a further note, When I pressed my caller ID on the phone no number came up. I finally hit *69 and got this number as the only phone calling in this morning. When I call this # I get a recording that says it's the opt out service to avoid Solicitation calls. They ask you to give the # (you just called) and then your phone number. They seem to be located in North Dakota. The other company according to Google is E-Fix. There are numerous posted complaints about them soliciting elderly people (like my dad) and requesting  200.00 to clean and repair your computer after they've tried to reset a password (email seems a favorite)

Got  a call from this number (701-671-9123) a few mins. ago. Female person left a message trying to sell carpet cleaning. I did not answer the call since I did not recognize the number. I assume this is some type phishing scam. I don't have any carpets, my number is on the DNC list and this scammers number will be on my blocked caller list JUST as soon as I finish typing this little note!

This number is associated with a well-know group of scammers: CallerID4U, Inc.  The principals of this company Paul Maduno and his partner Luis Martinez have an extensive history involving illicit telemarketing. In 2009, their business was called Digitcom Services, Inc., and they partnered with Steve Hamilton and F Antone Accuardi of Pacific Telecom Communications Group, who are currently the subjects of a class-action lawsuit for illegal telemarketing. Through a loophole in the system (called CNAM provisioning), these vermin make money every time a caller ID is displayed, so they do not care if you respond or not...they will keep calling.  See this blog:

http://telemarketerspam.wordpress.com/

Take the time to read the blog and make the complaint. In the long run, the only thing that will stop these criminals is large numbers of people taking the time to make the complaints...to the DNC list, to the FCC, to law enforcement. See also:
