I got a call from a man telling me i had been selected for a grant of eight thousand dollars. He gave me a routing number and a phone number. The routing number was rr1212 and another number which was 321. Then he gave me a phone number to call. It is1_509_560_2008. Is this a scam?  I called and a woman answered and told me to buy a greenback card. Her name is Calol.

I got a call from a gentlemen saying that i won 800000 US dollars. I was told to Buy 2 Green back money pack paper cards for $1500 each, one for verification of my check and the other was for the car. Well, I did and I gave them the numbers that were printed on the silver area in which I scratched off. I was also told that my taxes were being taken care of. You guys thought it was a scam, well I took it seriously and i placed my trust in God and believe me , today I am $800000 dollar richer and I am driving a NEW Mercedes Benz. Well, I believed because I won. I didn't regret paying for those cards.

I am from Toronto, Canada and have received a call from someone in Jamaica [+1 (876) 368-7747] who said I am the second place winner, I will get $835,000 and a 2012 Mercedes Benz that has 3 years of Geico coverage (which is already a clue because there is NO Geico in Canada, just performed research on that) and 3 years unlimited gas from any gas station. I have a chit # of 952195. Person calling is Mr. John Wallace (obviously from the heavy Jamaican accent I doubt that). Company is Winners International Company.

They asked me to go to Walmart and buy a "green back money back card" of $285. While on the phone I searched that term on the internet and found this site, quickly read the scams from others. It took 9 min of my cellular minutes, mainly because I had idea what the person was saying because of the heavy heavy accent. I'd say right off the bat if it was legitimate, they obviously wouldn't call (but I wanted to play it out anyways and find more info so I can learn about scammers), and even if they did call they would have a professional communications specialist that is highly fluent in English.

Just wanted to share with everyone.

Just received a call from a John Morris saying I had won 5.5 million dollars and a new Mercedes. All I need to do is go to Walgreens and purchase a greenback card for $300 they also called it a registration card. Does not make any sense to me why I would have to purchase something if I won something. Obviously a scam.

I have been getting similar calls from (702)726-2030 from a foreign sounding man named "Ralph Benjamin" he also gave me a number ti his office at (206)259-2384.  Said I had won 2.5 million and a new Mercedes in Publishers Clearinghouse.  Insisting that I go to Walmart and get the Greenback Cards for $799.00.  Like Angela posted he said they were working with Homeland Security and I needed the IRS stamp of approval to avoid a 1% tax on my winning.   This is a scam, hang up immediately.

I also received a call saying that I was a winner of American Shopper's Cash Awards. That I had won $550,000.00. I would need two pieces of id to claim my package that would be sent to me at 12:00 noon. The man had an accent and said his name was James Fisher when I asked for his name. He said that I would need to go to Wal- Mart to purchase a money pack green back card for $45.00. Then later in the conversation he said that it was $65.00. He said that Ronald Reese, a representative of Winner's International would come to my door to deliver the package. Also Johnny Black from Homeland Security would be there. He said that there is a 14 digit activation number on the back of the money pack green back card that I would have to give to him. Then I said that I would give it to Ronald Reese so he gave me his number 1 876 821-0780 to call. He said I needed an IRS stamp of approval. He also gave me a password that I needed to receive my package.  He told me to call him back because he was getting confused and then I told him that he didn't give me his number so then he gave me another number which was 1 876 466-7156. That's a Jamaica area code. He says he lives and works in Las Vegas, when I asked him where he works. He said the office is on Queen St.

I have now received 4 calls.  Three from a New York number indicating I had also won 2.5 million and a mercedes!  Of course, I must go to Walmart and purchase a money order for $375 to cover costs.  The fourth call came from Owings Mill, MD.  Same scam with less money.  Now it was $75,000!  I didn't give them time to give me the request for money.  I just said, I didn't enter any contests and was not interested and hung the phone up.  I did report the first three calls to Bank of America (since they misrepresented themselves as a representative of the company issuing the check as Bank of America).  They told me there were aware of the fraud; but, couldn't do anything because it was not in this country and the phones were not traceable.  I then called my local police department to report the fraudulent calls.  No assistance there also.  I hope no one falls for this nonesense.

I received numerous calls from guys with Caribbean accents claiming I had won $2.5m plus a 2011 Mercedes S Class sedan.  Most recently, I was asked to go to a store like WalMart and buy two Greenback Money Pak paper cards for $500 each.  I should then take them home and sratch off the silver strips on the back to reveal some numbers.  Then I was to call (209) 487-0435 to discuss the next step.  This was supposedly the last hurdle to overcome before delivery of my $2.5m (less tax) and the car.  Earlier on they had demanded that I send about $15,000 to cover the "barter to barter" costs related to delivering my prize, which is a load of unadulterated crap!  Undoubtedly this is a type of "fee scam" that has spread from West Africa (countries like Nigeria, Ghana, etc.) to the Caribbean.  These people are very insistent on the phone, even if you insult them and tell them never to call again.  The area code of the number provided is from the area around Stockton, CA, but these people seem to wander around from CA to TX to DC to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.  Of course, the phone number is unpublished, although it is a land line.  It is amazing that the police has not shut them down and deported the scam artists.

Got a call from 702 330-9792.  Man who called himself Bob Brown stated that I had won $2 million in a raffle.  Stated $500K would be sent to IRS and remaining 1.5 mil would be delivered on 9/6/11 to my home, $500K in cash and $1 mil in certified check, along with police escort and media coverage.  He even gave me a package number like a UPS tracking number.  The catch was I would have to go to Walmart, Walgreens or Rite Aid and buy a Greenback Money Pak paper card for $699 while he was finishing the paperwork.  Once I had the card I was supposed to call him back.  This guy had a strong accent and was somewhat hard to understand.  There was also a lot of noise coming over the line which also made it hard to hear. This was so obviously a scam, I played along and wrote down as much info as I could, and immediately called police.  Don't fall for this.

I received a call from a woman who identified herself as Judy Haynes, telling me I had won $5000 or $500 or $500,000; the amount kept changing.  She told me to go to Walmart and buy a $500 Security Greenback card, but she was vague about it.
She was insistant that I go buy the card immediately.  Walmart public service desk said it was probably a scam.
She called back and told me to call her manager Bob Brown (who's accent didn't sound like a person with that kind of name) at this number and also told me to go buy a card.
Also the phone line was very noisy and it was hard to understand what was said
