Additionally, (sorry I forgot to mention earlier), just in case that  you already pickd up the phone and tried to answer that call, but whenever you heard a tone "press 1 to be connected to a live agent, press 2 to be removed from our calling list...etc", DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING, just simply hang up the phone, because basically it was just a trick; in your simple mind, you would think that when you PRESS a 2, then they would remove your name/phone number from their calling list????, good luck, but NO, in the reality of this planet earth, that you just confirms (to them) that your telephone number is an actual working number, with a live person, that just answers it.  You just activate a "CALL ME" command.  ALL telephone marketers, advertisers will now share that call-list with your name/telephone number in it, and they will continue to call you to the end of days.  In short, do not PRESS anything; just simply do answer the phone, or just simply hangup;

I feel sorry for you guys, just a bunch of honest to god people, being taken advantage of.  Anyways, let me give you a quick lesson on how to avoid the scams here.  First of, DO NOT answer any of those phone calls, DO NOT return any of those phone calls, because if you do, they WILL put your name and phone number on their "SUCKER" list, meaning they already confirm on their system that your number is an actual legitimate working number and then there will be gazillion of followup calls from then on.  Again, do not answer, do not return any of that numbers. I am here in the Bay Area (San Francisco, CA) and there is a TV program call "7-on your side" with channel 7-News, where there were lots of people reported those types of phone calls to Channel 7 and they did their research and that's what Channel-7 has concluded, the "SUCKER LIST".

Secondly, I programmed those phone numbers into my phone list just as any other contact, but I gave it a name so that I KNOW not to answer it the next time they call, for example, I program this phone number 702-517-5244 in my contact list as DNA-5244 where DNA stands for DO NOT ANSWER-5244; the reason that I have 5244 as the end so that I can see the differences in different numbers, YES, I have more than one-thousand (1000) DNA numbers in my contact list already.

Thirdly, do not rely on the Do Not Call List registry, according to the news-channel again, these scammers and rubbish-numbers really flooded the Do Not Call list a lot more than it can handle, more than 300% (300 percent) more than its capability.  So in short, it is not a working program.  WHY, you might ask, the answer is very simple: it is a billion-dollar industry.  It is simply know as the Sword & the Shield technique.  Every time there is increase in crimes, people would go out and buy more security cameras, stunt-guns....etc. the same technique apply here, when there are way more rubbish phone calls as such, more people would want to avoid it by signing up for the "Phone-screening" feature with the phone company, that usually charge around $5-$10 addition to your regular phone bills. think of it this way, whenever there are more annoying phone calls, and there are more pissed-off customers as you are, it is MUCH better business for the phone-companies.

Again, just try to protect yourself by simply program those solicit phone numbers into your phone as DO NOT ANSWER numbers just as I have done for a long time now.  and don't let them bother you.

I do answer these calls and if patient, someone will eventually come on the line.  I was told they are on a system that calls "more than one phone number" at a time.

Very politely and very sweet voiced I tell them I do not have time to talk with them.  Quickly, before they have a chance to hang up I say, again, very sweet voiced, "Would you please do me a personal favor?"  Yes, what is it?  I then tell them I would appreciate it if "you, personally" will make sure I don't get anymore phone calls from this number.  Yes, they always tell me yes.  I ask them, "You do have my phone number there, right?"  Yes.  "and you are going to take care of this for me, yes?"  Yes.

Often I have had to tell them my phone number as they are using an automated system and don't always have my phone number in front of them.

I will tell you this works for me.  I have yet to have one of these numbers call me back after I have spoken with them.  The calls after 9:00 p.m. are answered the same way.  If it is later ... well, call all you want after I am asleep .. nothing wakes me up.

Well I agree with you...I wish you were able to give them a piece of your mind!!  When I answered, a man with a slight accent asked for my 22 yr old son...by his first birth name.  The only time he uses that is on official paperwork . Odd thing is, they were calling MY cell number and he has his own cell number...Hummmm?  Where and how did they get that combination of info from?  He doesnt give my number out unless its on a job application...Now that is scary stuff!!  Infiltration...like ROACHES I say!!  Or virus? Anyone watch Battlestar Galactica lately?  By the way thanks for the language lesson ;)

I just got a call from these tools at 9:13 PST..the silly broad asked for me by name and said I know its late but they were required to call people in Washington until they reached their quota.  I asked her if she realized what f****ng time it was??? That there question really set her off and she said that she didn't have to put up with that from me.  So since I found her buzz word I repeated in as many times as I could before she hung up...I mean how funny is it that she is calling me after 9 and she doesn't have to put up with me cursing at her???  I actually hope she calls back she was kinda fun.

In yiddish Putz means dick. That wasn't very nice and definitely suspicious! They called me but hung up. It's a shame - I would have given them a fake zip code and kept chatting - tripping them up on every question. I wonder how often they meet their worst nightmare...

I received call at 9:16pm on 9/26/12. I answered the phone and it was silent. I said My name and Can I help you? (said it twice) and then after several seconds a young woman spoke. She said, "Oh, I am so sorry I dialed the wrong #". They are waiting for a voice response before they say anything, as it's apparent they are telemarketers of some sort.

Well, it's obvious from the complaints here that these people are up to no good. The golden rule of the telephone still applies: You DON'T KNOW who's on the other end of the call! NEVER give them ANY information! DON'T answer ANY questions!

"Opinion Poll" on the caller ID is probably just their way of getting people to believe the Do Not Call list doesn't apply to them. Last time I looked, "Opinion Poll" was NOT the name of any legit company.

Got a call. They asked for someone who rents from me but is not associated in any way with my phone.  number. I simply asked, "How did you get this number?" and the caller hung up on me. When I called the number on my caller ID, I got a recording that pitched the benefit of participating in surveys. I am, VERY annoyed.

Got a call from them just now (just before 9PM my time); have gotten these before. And they must be associated with the other 702 calls I get from NV--both to my home phone and cell phone today. The fact that the Do Not Call List has no meaning should be something we all demand our Representatives do something about!!!

Received 2 calls from this number (37 minutes apart).  Calling for my father who passed away in 2003.  Told the idiot that my number is on the DO NOT CALL list.  She said it does not apply to her.  I asked for her address so I can go postal on her.  She said it's a death threat and will call the police.  Since I didn't make the call, it does not apply to me.  She hung up.

Disconnect the minute VM kicks in.  CID shows:  8075298:7025175.  Strange to say the least.

Never answer unknown numbers.  Comcast has a caller ID function that shows on TV so I don't have to go to a phone.
