If you have Verizon you can copy and paste the text and send it to 7726 ("SPAM") - next they'll ask for the phone # that sent it to you. This will help everyone block spam #s.

My husband just got that message on his phone (Verizon wireless).
"Jennifer said to send this to you Http://bit.ly/TV4BhS"
Being the suspicious wife that I am, I copied down the address and looked it up on my phone. It's a Cosco membership card ad. I don't think the message has a virus.
The ad is for a free Cosco membership if you enter the code supplied. The sender probably gets paid for every person who enters the code.
They use names like Jennifer, because they are common names, and almost everyone knows SOMEBODY by those names.
I hope I contributed some helpful information. You all certainly helped me out.

From 702-539-8567, I got a similar text: "Jennifer said to send this to you http://bit.ly/QPoMjX" [sic].
A search on http://www.areacodelocations.info/7/702.html identified the call as coming from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Another similar text came from from 816-510-1539: "Michelle said to send this to you http://bit.ly/TRp7A6" [sic]. The same website identified it as coming from Kansas City, Missouri.
Both URLs link to a site offering FAKE free Costco gift cards before redirecting to a site claiming that Amazon picked your cell phone number for winning something. Of course, one has to "act now" because these glorious fake offers will go away if you don't respond in 5 minutes. When you refresh the page, the clock resets.

I got the same message about mike saying I could use these in Novemeber. I clicked on the link and it was 2 free tickets to some resort in Hawaii. I filled out the necessary info and just last week received my confirmation for free airline and lodging. I couldn't believe it. I called the travel agent whom was listed on the paperwork and we leave next week. I'm so excited!!!!!!

I just got the Mike one and that is my brother's name, so I clicked on the link and it said to click to get a free Costco gift card. I got out of it then and texted back the number and asked who it was and no response.

This is in Montana. My name is not Jennifer and I did not click. I deleted. Then went to my carriers website and added the number as a blocked call/text number.
