I used to work for an insurance company that told us we were not allowed to call anyone on a DO NOT CALL list. They said it could cost the company an $11,000 fine if someone reported them to the FTC. Perhaps if enough people complained about this company to the FTC & filed charges/suits against them, it would cost them some money for bothering you.
If you have registered for any type of drawings or contests, the company calling will not be prosecuted because you gave your number willingly & there was probably some fine print on the "terms & conditions" of the application for the drawing or contest allowing them to sell or disiminate your information for marketing purposes.
BTW- "DO NOT CALL" lists only pertain to residential phone lines, not business phone lines. The FTC will not enforce "DO NOT CALL" lists for business/commercial phone numbers from my understanding.
I just got a text from this same number on my cell phone stating that I had won some $1k gift card from Best Buy for a contest I entered but I haven't entered for any contest so I'm not going to the website on the text.

These people won't leave me alone. They call early in the morning, during the day, evenings, and even 8:30 pm on a holiday. The last time they left a message only saying my last name.

After major research and complaints filed
against these jerks here are your answers.
The company is called Crossfire Marketing Group
at 9007 Arrow Route suite 250, Rancho
Cucamonga, California 91730. Phone
number is 909 944-3617. The company
CEO and high school drop out is Mickey
Gross and the last name says it all. They
continue to violate federal law. Give Mickey a call
like he does you. File some complaints and
maybe this high school drop out will find
a regular job like at Burger King. I am going
to be his biggest nightmare. Let's put a stop
to this low life.

These calls come to us as well, in California, Contra Costa County. I also receive calls from them with CFM, from the number 281-6420. Agreed, very annoying. They've been calling for a few years now. When we see the calls, we just don't pick up. Kinda like my mother-in-law's calls...jk

This number assigned to "Cross FM" is beginning to torque me off, too.  Calls at all times of the day and night, never a message and if I do answer, no one responds and then hangs up.  So much for the "do not call" registry.  It is just like everything else,  the only ones affected by the rules are the ones who follow them, everyone else gets by with whatever they want.   We need a change in our governmental systems so that the little person is the one in charge.

OK.... I called up the pioneer press, which is my local paper and told them what was going on and how abusive these people are. All they said was that they did indeed hire them to contact anyone who has had a subscription with them or some business dealings. They didn't seem real concerned when I told them about the abuse CrossFM deals out. But they did say they would put me on their internal do not call list and it would update the next time CrossFM gets numbers from them.

So if you don't know why CrossFM is calling you, call your local paper and make sure you're on their do not call list.

It's a sure sign our local papers are going under when they resort to hiring these kinds of businesses.

I also called the attorney general about CrossFM's tactics, and they said that pretty much people had to deal with harrassing phone calls in their own way, although I was welcome to fill out a complaint. I don't know who is in charge of this stuff over state lines.

I was getting up to 7 calls a day from them from two different phone numbers.

They are a either the Los Angeles Newspaper Group or a company that markets for them. The newspapers owned by them include the Pasadena Star, The Torrance/South Bay Daily Breeze, The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, The Long Beach Press Telegram, The Los Angeles Daily News, The Redlands Daily Facts, The San Bernardino Sun, The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, and the Whittier Daily News. They're trying to sell you the paper. If you call back a message says all operators are busy and then a few seconds of music play before it hangs up on you. If you call back several times (took me about 6) you can get someone to answer.

The past two days - Jan 31, Feb 1, I have received 3 vmail messages on my work phone with a blank message. This routes to my cell making me think there is someething urgent at work. Sigh. This is almost as bad as "This is the 2nd notice of the factory warranty" messages I get. I was even in an elevator the other day and the phone in there started playing the message....

These people have called my house phone about 2-4 times a day for the last three or four days. Apparently my dad has talked to them and told them we aren't interested, but they still continue to call.

Last night I was home sick, and the rest of my family was out to dinner at a local pub nearby. This number called and the conversation went as followed -

Me: Hello?
Man: Hello.
Me: Yes...
Man: I need to know if your parents are home right now?
Me: Uh, yes they are.
Man: Let me talk to them.
Me: They are busy, can I take a message?
Man: Are you alone? Are you the owner of this house?
Me: Yes I am. Can I help you?
There was no response and they hung up.

I was very freaked out, a 15 year old home alone, with a strange guy calling and asking if I was alone? I called my dad and he explained that they were an annoying number that continues to call and try to sell us the Pioneer Press.

Still, its a bit creepy, right?
