Caller ID CNG 702-576-0450

Hangs up when I answer.  I called them back, they told me I had been signed up to receive 3 free months subscription to my local newspaper.  I told them I didn't want it and I didn't authorize this and I want my name/number removed.

I asked my local newspaper office about it, they said they it's a number of years since they were affiliated with this company, they used them a long time ago to contact previous customers with promotions , but are no longer affiliated with this company and they do NOT have any such promotions available right now.  Our local newspaper manager said they will be contacting this company to tell them to stop calling their customers because CNG is no longer authorized to be doing this for them.

They also told me, they have a had a few shady companies pocketing extra $ in the past, by obtaining a list of names/numbers of people who subscribe to local newspapers and soliciting.  One of those companies was located in Las Vegas, but she wasn't sure if this is the same one.

RED FLAG: The reason they don't answer when you pick up the phone, is to get you curious enough to call them!  Any time you get a phone call and the caller does not answer you or hangs up or disconnects you, is a twisted sales strategy some deceitful companies use in effort to get personal information from YOU and many times, when you call them, they will avoid any questions or disclosing any information to you, by trying to sell you something instead,  the moment they answer your call, and in some cases, may take your info and then steal from you.  BEWARE!

If you receive a call from this number, call them back, tell them you don't want it, when they give you their sales pitch, get the name of the newspaper it was for, and please, do give your newspaper office a call to let them know.

Just my 2 cents,
Terry Maher

The legal way to get them to stop:

"How will I access the National Do Not Call Registry?

Online at www.telemarketing.donotcall.gov

How will the National Do Not Call Registry work?

Starting January 1, 2005, telemarketers and sellers will be required to search the registry at least once every 31 days and drop from their call lists the phone numbers of consumers who have registered. Through December 31, 2004, telemarketers will have to update their lists every three months. The dedicated, fully automated and secure Web site at www.telemarketing.donotcall.gov will provide this information to telemarketers and sellers.

When an organization accesses the system for the first time, it will have to create a profile and provide some identifying information, such as organization name and address, authorized representative, and the representative's telephone number and email address. If an organization is accessing the registry on behalf of a client-seller, the organization may need to identify the client (or clients).

The only consumer information organizations will be able to access from the national registry is a registrant's telephone number. Consumers' phone numbers will be sorted and available by area code. Each organization accessing the registry data will be required to pay an annual fee based on the number of area codes the company accesses.

On subsequent visits to www.telemarketing.donotcall.gov, organizations will be able to download either a complete updated list of numbers from their selected area codes or a more limited list that shows additions or deletions since the last download.

A consumer who receives a telemarketing call despite being on the registry will be able to file a complaint with the FTC, either online or by calling a toll-free number. Violators could be fined up to $16,000 per incident."

it's the stupid newspaper on the other end of the phone... half the time they don't answer.  If you pick up and don't get anyone, the computer will flip out if you hit the pound number, it will think it's rec'd a fax, and will not call again. so my friend says, works for her.
They call on my line, and then a half hour later call on my husbands' business line.  really wish I could reach out touch someone.

If you're a Verizon customer, you can block up to 5 telephone numbers at a time.  Just go to your Verizon account and the feature is under PLAN.  It doesn't last forever.  Only 90 days.  But, keeps those b****eads from calling you.

Yes, there are police that sit in the bushes and write out traffic tickets. Under the current do not call law, there's little more that they can do!

Many telemarketers use internet technology to make it look like the calls come from outside the US, and many calls DO come from outside the US. Not to pick on them but, if you've seen the Vonage TV commercials that say you can make unlimited calls to or receive unlimited calls from over 65 countries throughout the world, you realize that it's not a simple thing to find out who's actually calling.  Some of the telemarketers bounce calls through numerous countries before the call reached you. Information that appears on Caller ID is pretty much worthless since telemarketers can use easily available and inexpensive services to display whatever they want on the caller ID.

There are some police, mostly state and federal, that try to track down the callers but have absolutely no legal authority or jurisdiction to take action against companies or people outside the US.

Technology is so far ahead of what the laws allow police to do that it's no wonder that most of them don't even try. Don't wait for the elected legislators to change the laws to hold telephone companies responsible for blocking calls that are known to come from scam telemarketers. They are making millions with telemarketers and make big contributions to campaigns to insure that the laws aren't changed.

Also have been receiving calls from CNG @ 702-576-0450 - at least 2 a day for nearly a week. I finally got fed up and called the number back. After being on hold for a short time I was connected to a live person who told me that she represented our local newspaper - the Appeal Democrat. She started to ask me if I was interested in subscribing. I cut her off and told her I was tired of receiving her calls and wanted my name removed from their calling list. She told me she would do it immediately and told me to have a nice day (yeah, right). Then I emailed the customer service department of the Appeal Democrat and told them the whole story. I said that if this was a company they had hired they were only succeeding in pissing people off.  I got a reply from the "Customer Care Manager" at the Appeal Democrat asking for my phone number and address so she could make sure my number had been removed from the calling list. Needless to say I wrote back and told her no. I haven't received any more calls from CNG and will never consider subscribing to the Appeal Democrat again.

One of MANY numbers the St. Paul Pioneer Press uses.  They have call centers in Reno, Dallas, Baltimore, Jacksonville, etc. etc.  Same thing with the Star Tribune.  They have been calling me relentlessly for 2 years from several numbers and no one is ever there when I pick up.  This is absolute harrassment.  Even though I am on the "do not call " list and report these numbers on a regular basis, they continue.  Can't wait for digital only uses to put them out of business.  i encourage everyone to NOT buy their newspapers.

My subscription and grace period expired from the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Friday and on the same day I started getting calls from this number, at least 2 a day, and they never left a message.  On Saturday I started to receive calls from a 774 area code.   I am guessing it is the same thing.  Shame on you St. Paul Pioneer Press for selling my phone number.

I recently subscribed to the Star Tribune, and now am getting these calls frequently. (Not sure who sold my name to CNG, but not too happy about unwanted calls!)  I got annoyed and finally answered and noone was there. I've since blocked the call. Call your phone provider and get the a**les blocked, or download an app on your smart phone to weed these creeps out.
