What really pisses me off about this is that when you call it back to be removed, it says the number is not in service.  Real ethical, huh?

Very nice person just tried to scam me.  They really pretend that they are part of verizon, and that they're offering you a discount to stop you from switching services.  Then they say stuff like, oh, verizon is just the owner of the phone infrastructure in philadelphia, and how they just want to "get the ball rolling" towards cheaper rates and the confusion process begins.

So I guess they are this company Surftone which tries to trick you into changing your service.

first of all i have this company for my service.. they are great.  all they are is just a reseller of verizons service.  there are tons and i do mean tons of companies out there that sell verizon services.  even att does it.  the calls that you guys are all getting is a room in nevada that they hire to call their leads. i do have to admit that those reps are not the best salesmen but they directly are not the company itself.  those people are just telemarketers that rely on their commissions to feed their families.  the company has very competitive rates and sure they have hiccups here and there but so does verizon.  tell me you have never had an issue with service, billing, or the nasty customer care reps at verizon.

this company is a small company in new jersey with about 100 employees  they are been in business for 13 years and are registered with the psc in all of the states they deal with.  i did extensive research and spoke with numerous reps in their corp office in nj.  what they do is lease the services from verizon and resell them back out to customers.  it is definately not a scam and if you do some research on it you will see that unfortunately verizon is one of the few companies that has the lines in the ground so lots of companies need to use their lines.  if no other company did you guys would be stuck paying verizon whatever they wanted you to pay bc they would not have competiton to keep their rates in check.

as far as it being illegal for them to call you.  its not.  they are not using a recording to call you.  they are live operators calling off of a computer dialer.  sometimes there are not enough reps to take the calls so that is why the system is hanging up on you.  as far as the reps talking in the background.  well we can't all be the smartest of people.

also as far as suddenly authorizing a change  its false.  i personally did the verification that they put you through and did record it for my records.  they advise you that you are authorizing a carrier change and in the middle of the verification they say verbatim " surftone is NOT AFFILIATED WITH YOUR CURRENT CARRIER"  now if you don't know what that means then its your fault and you shouldn't be talking to anyone on the phone.  i have listened to my recording over and over again and it is made perfectly clear that i authorized my phone service to be changed.  there actually are no fees associated with the change and the service is in no way any different then the service i received from verizon.  the customer care department at surftone is far nicer and far superior to verizon as well.  everyone there speaks english and they all know exactly what they are doing.  they do not transfer you from department to department and you do not have to wait on hold for 40 minutes and go through numerous automated systems to reach them.  the best thing i could have done to myself was to change to this company  i have saved money, time, and aggrivation with my phone serivce.

i do suggest that anyone that does not want to be called by this company put your name on the NATIONAL DO NOT CALL LIST and stop signing up for things online and giving your phone number out.  the more you put your number on this you sign up for and on credit applications the more your information gets sold to companies for marketing purposes.     i know this is a long one but im so tired of people putting down a company that is actually doing some good out there for us.  if it were not for them then we would be paying verizon tons and tons of money for their service just because they want us to.   research the telecom deregulation act of 1996 and you'll know what i mean.  also obviously if you call verizon asking about this company they are without a doubt going to tell you this is a scam and they have never heard of this company - half of the verizon reps are f****ng idots and never graduated highschool  that is the only stupid job they can get and they are COMPETITORS of course verizon is going to do whatever they can to keep you as a customer  they WANT you to put a freeze on your account so you are guaranteed to stay with them forever  when you try to remove the freeze they give you a hard time and it takes about 20 tries to get them to actually do what you want.  ive been there and done it.   you can verify everything that im saying by doing some research and contacting verizon.  i bet they tell you exactly what i just told you they would.  i really hope that this helps someone make a valid infomed decision about their services and not just stay with verizon bc they are verizon.  they are the biggest scam artists around and they get away with it because of their name.  they are the crooks!

This number just called me again (Saturday) and a woman left a message on my answering machine that said, in a very sarcastic tone, "Well ain't that special," and then hung up.  My business number is on the national DNC, I've called to tell them off, I've told them not to call back, etc., all to no good.  Thank goodness I've frozen my phone line with Verizon so no one can change my line and no third-party charges can be made.

Just talked with Verizon and the Surftone company has nothing to do with them. And if you say "yes" anywhere in the conversation with these idiots (or others like them) they can take that and say you agreed to change. With Verizon you can freeze your phone account so that the only way you can be switched to another phone carrier (or long distance company, etc) is if you call Verizon and request that the freeze be removed.  There's no charge to do this and I did it today.  Several months ago, I also has something put on my phone where no third party can charge anything to my phone bill.

Thanks to this website, when they were finally "there" when I answered the phone and said "Surftone" I knew what to do!  He said that due to deregulation they were taking over Verizon's business accounts with less than ten phone lines. (Then why does my bill still come from Verizon, if Surftone has taken the accounts over.)  You should have heard the  tone of his voice when I said I wasn't going to agree to anything until I verified if they were legitimate or not (which I already knew the scam; I was just having a little fun). Man, he was ticked off!  I then yelled at him, said I was sick and tired of receiving calls from this number and then no one was on the line when I picked up, said I had no intention of buying anything from them, and then hung up on him.

Got ANOTHER call from this company today; guy asking to talk to who ever in is charge of the Verizon bill. I asked what company he was calling from and he said "does it matter? I want to talk about your Verizon bill and how you can save money?" I said "Yes it matters" and he said "No it doesn't" the conversation went downhill from there, with me telling him to go back to school and get a real job. @ssholes.

You can contact your local phone company and have them put a block on your account that does not allow them to accept third party billing on your account.  I have done it because of getting hit by some moron ordering voice mail services for my account over the internet.  Fortunately I did not have to pay a dime for it because the information provided during the order concerning my email address was incorrect.  By the way people, get smart, don't use your name as a part of your email address.  So many people do and they get screwed by these kind of mental idiots that have nothing better to do than to crawl into your back pocket and pick it clean.  Protect yourselves and be wise.  Local law enforcement won't help you because it is a "civll matter" you have to deal with through the courts yourself.

I have reported an enourmous amount of complaints on these guys and many others that are violating the Federal Law over the past 6 or so years and absolutely nothing is done.  I got bitten by these morons once.  It will never happen again.  Best bet is to let them keep wasting their time calling my number because I don't answer any calls from 800 series numbers, out of area calls, unavailable calls, or out of state calls.  If they really need to speak to me to conduct business pertaining to my line of work they can leave a detailed message and I will call them back to discuss what my business can offer them.  Otherwise they can P*** up a rope!
