I got a call on December 4th 2014.  From a Jeffery Williams of WSA.  He told me if i did not pay $480.13 By the 7th.

There would be a warrant out for my arrest.  Saying that i owed a payday loan.

What a scam.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Debt is civil, not criminal - you cannot be arrested for failure to pay back a loan!  Threatening you with arrest is a violation of the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act).  You have rights as a consumer - and one of those rights is that any debt collector MUST mail you proof that you owe a debt and proof that they can collect said debt - if they won't provide this documentation via USPS mail, do NOT pay them!  It is a violation of the FDCPA to refuse to send proof of debt.

Why would you even pay someone who is either a scammer or junk debt buyer, with no proof you actually owe the money to them?  If you do pay them, guess what?  You'll start to get MORE calls saying you paid the wrong person and you still owe the money to someone else!  There is something to be done about these people - refuse to pay until they mail that proof that you owe the debt to them.  And please DO report the caller to the FTC, FBI, Dept of Justice and your state's Attorney General.

I'm not sure if this is a scam or not but I was told that if I didn't pay $750 for a payday loan from payday loan yes that I would be arrested. So needless to say, I'm going to pay the $750 and hope this is the end of it. This was from five years ago for an old  address. I really wish something could be done about these people. The name of the company was WSA Firm which and they people I spoke with were Americans but after reading some of the other comments I'm not sure if this company is legit. I'm not even sure about their names, Thomas Bell, litigator and Sharon Wright, investigator. Never again.
