a message was sent to my boyfriends moms cell phone and we get along ok for the most part i guess so she comes in our room and asks me if i had givin her number out, and so i tell her no that ive never givin anyone i no her # and she looks at me like im lying. i just wanted to ask the person or people that r sending that message out to people is why did they have to use my name and happen to send it to her out of all people THANKS ALOT!!! as if i dont have enough problems with the lady!

Got a text with the message that said "  Jen said to send this to you  with a link to a Costco reward gift card.

Unfortunately area codes, prefixes, etc are all available online, there are many websites that show them and who the "block" belongs to.

With this information, you just start at -0000 and go to -9999.

I get a random text usually about twice a week.  I just ignore them.  Its about all you can do, honestly.  They don't likely have your number, they are just hitting blocks of numbers.

There are even websites out there that allow you to text people anonymously, so obviously the scammers have the technology.  Its the same as regular spam-they send out 1000 emails, and if 10 fall for it, its worth it.

Smartphones are just transitioning the scamming from email to mobile devices.  The fact that people use mobile devices as a primary phone now in many cases just makes it worse.

If people would just use common sense like they do in real life on the internet a lot of people wouldn't get scammed.  You wouldn't give your social security number or pin number to some random person walking up to you on the street.  Why would you give them your password online?  Just because they say they are from your bank or your ISP?

If its too good to be true, it probably is.  Just ignore it, thats all I tell my cleints all the time.  Sure you're rather not get the calls or the texts.  But people replying to them encourages them more.  Or it verifies your number is good and you get onto a list thats sold to other scammers.

Just delete it and move on, its all you can do.

Received test saying "Michelle said to send this to you" followed by a link. I did not open it. How does my number become available to random scammers?

recieved a tex from 702-994-3889 I repled with a tex saying "  u have the wrong #" no responce.

weird. i got it and went to a weather forecast station.

It was a random weather forecast....?

My message said "Jen said to send this to you" with http/bit.ly/SPu65l.  Been getting alot of texts from the 702 area code.  It looks like a Las Vegas number.

So Did I but from 816-518-2937.

gave me http://bit.ly/SPu651  as link and said "jen said to send this to you."  Load of crap most likely, but new number to add to list...

Got a text saying

Jen told me to send this to you,............. It had a link to a free $500 Costco card. Didn't go farther.

I got a text that said, "Hey! Remember me? Check out my pix."

The link was 20 years old.

"michelle said to send this to you" with a link.  I didn't click the link.

"Jennifer said to send this to you" with a tiny url.

I got the same call that said Michelle said to send this to you http://bit.ly12fYRm. It looked like something from Costco about free gift card if I'd join or something to that effect. Didn't go any further into site.

I got a message that said "Michelle said to send you http://bit.ly/12fxYRm  as a link,  Dont know anyone in Nevada

Got a text from this # which said:
Tina said to forward this to you http://bit.ly/XEb32E
I did not reply or click on the link.
