The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

I have been getting phone calls from this number and have no idea why they don't leave a message you call back and they ask you what your ss# is and that I owe money.  When the person on the other end of the line answered it's a recording and they say the name of the company so fast you don't know what they are saying.. This has to be some kinda of scam that bought bad debts from another company and have a number listed out of Las Vegas, NV.  Strange if you ask me!

They are calling form New York with a Nevada phone number to trick you into answering. These people are the lowest scum of the bill collecting industry. They have been calling me for some one that I have never hears of for the past two years. Now is time for them to stop. I do not owe someone else?s debit.

They called for my exwife she owes someone a fat wad of cash I just lol for it.  If they are making "false" stuff up you as a USA citizen happen to have the right to ask any questions as of who they are, what they are, where they are. If they don't respond back to you this is a illegal act. I have been receiving calls from 702 997 5043 and 702 9975124 702 4252465.  They are all Las  Vegas numbers with a Level3communication carrier.  They have been calling me and hanging up for four weeks. They start at 8 am and go on throughout the day. They listen and breath.  I think it is just another example of the mentality in Las Vegas,  Let's scam people!!! There are a lot of jobs in Las Vegas where the employer wants his employees to scam somebody some way and I think it is employees calling lots of peole and talking to the first one that answers.  Good luck getting it stopped. A lot of the scammers actually work out of California.

A young woman called asking for Ronald. Nobody by that name lives here so I informed her she has the wrong number and to take our number of their list. She said, "Thanks, but I'm not a solicitor ma'am" and then she hung up. What happened to properly introducing one's self when making a professional call?

702-997-5073 is ARS (Accounts Receiveable Solutions) they are a junk debt buyer trying to get you to pay on a bogus debt you either don't owe because you already paid it to someone else or debt that is out of statute to even collect on.  Whatever you do, don't call them back and don't answer any of their questions.  They are liars and they are trying to trick you into paying a debt you don't owe.

I HAVE TO WRITE THIS AND HOPE IT GETS POSTED, BUT IN LAS VEGAS, I F YOU DON'T WANT UNSOLICITED HANG UPS ALL DAY LONG, IT IS KIND OF LIKE A SLAP IN THE FACE TO LAS VEGAS. ANOTHER STRANGE THING IS THAT I LEAVE MESSAGES FOR VARIOUS SERVICES SUCH AS CAR WINDOW TINTING, ETC. AND THEY DON'T CALL BACK.

Here we go again with calls from 702 area code. Apparently Las Vegas thinks that whenever they want to call and  harrass, it is OK as long as it is them calling. I just got finished with another bunch of calls from Las Vegas and now this number calls and hangs up. In Las Vegas, you cannot call the number back and there is no telephone harrassment law so good luck. It is one of the reason I am leaving ASAP. The phone company here supports this wholeheartedly and don't bother to get on the "Do Not Call List" if you live in Las Vegas.

Someone just called for my husband too & I asked if I could take a message & they said no & then I asked if I could tell him who called & she said, "Amanda from A R S."

Received a call from them--didn't leave a message. If this is indeed a debt collector, they have the wrong #. Grrr.

I just got this phone from walmart. I do not take calls on it. stop calling

They also call from a very similar # to this....punks.... its other numbers that have the ending # off by like 1 or 2 digits....

This lady says I am going to jail if I do not pay up
she would not tell me who she was and she wanted a credit card # to pay 450 bill
I told her to never call here again at 745 am

Asking for my SS#.Wouldn't say what type of company.They're not fooling anybody.

Number keeps calling but hangs up just brfore answering machine picks up. Sometimes hangs up in middle of 2nd ring. I.D. on phone only shows that it is a Las Vegas Nevada number.

Got a call from this number. I went to whitepages.com and did a reverse number look up. Did tell much except that it's a land line, but there was a map on the screen with an arrow showing the intersection where the call originated.

Also got a call from this number, 702-997-5073. I know its a Vegas area code but no message was left. Called back and received a busy signal, called back a second time and got an operator "call cannot be completed as dialed" message.
