These people call my cell and house phone back to back every morning at 7:30am but its just a hang up. They call my cell phone about 7 times a day and 5 out of 7 is a hang up. I'm so annoyed with the harassment. Why cant they just send a written document to address the situation they have, why call all hours of the day, all day, everyday.

They called asking for my last four digits of my SS# I gave it to them not thinking (damn what a fool I am). Never the less I thought about it after they put me on hold for a long time prompting me to hang up. They told me they were a debt collection agency looking to collect on an old medical debt in which I looked up and it?s been pain. This is obviously a scam. I just hope I didn?t reveal too much information to them, as to where any of my accounts may be compromised.

WOW, am I glad I came across this.  So glad I looked up these numbers that have been driving me in sain for a year now.  Seriously curious where they are getting "my" info, etc.  If you have any major medical procedures, hospitalizations, etc.  watch out.....that is the only way they could have recieved any info from me.  My gosh, I have enough problems, being out of work, and having to have this major surgery, this is the last thing I needed.  WE ALL need to get together somehow, someway to stop this crap.  I have never felt so violated.  PLEASE let us stop this thing.  You know, $24.00 per person adds up EXTREMELY fast for the one basically STEALING it from you.   It seems $24.00 is their special number....BBB HAS BEEN CONTACTED!  Best of luck to all trying to stop this!  Thank you for reading and hopefully stopping this.

The phone rang and someone was on the other end,but when i keep saying hello, they would not speak.  I then hung up. My husband called them back to see who it was, they finally answered the phone. My husband asked the man if they just called this number and if I could help them with something. The guy asked, i
"If Wendy was there"? My husband asked, "what he needed to speak to her about"? "If he would disclose why he was calling"? At which time he asked for my birth date, and he talked to my husband and asked for personal information (Social Security number ect),my husband would not give him any information and told him here talk to Wendy, at which time my husband passed me the phone.I answered the phone and the man on the other end asked me, "Is this Wendy?" I said yes and what is this about? He said he was calling from ACI and asked me for the last four of my Social Security number and my Birthday. I asked him multiple times," Why would I give you that? and he asked me again, and I said, "Why would I give you that"? Then he said that he needed it to continue this conversation, I said I am not giving you that info and hung up the phone. When I reverse look up the number it goes to Washington, Virginia. Really? Is there a Washington Virginia? Oh! Also the number was unknown. So Go figure......

We live in VA, this number has called us every single day since 1/21/13.  They used to call us a lot last year but we don't answer our phone unless we know who it is so they never got us and eventually stopped.  Now I guess it's a new year and they are trying again.  The information from other people here who have called them and talked to them is very enlightening and I'm glad to have read it before I call them.  Thanks for taking the time to let us know how you handled it!

The problem is originating from the practice of debt collection agencies being able to sell large amounts of "delinquent" debt to other collection agencies.  Once they have tried to collect and been unable to for a certain amount of time, they bundle up thousands of debts and sell them to another collector for pennies on the dollar owed.  The next company doesn't care if any are invalid, they just want to collect on a percentage of these new debts.  At such low prices they can make their money back by collecting on just 2% or 5% of the debts that they buy.

And the seller doesn't care either.  If they can't collect on it, that's $0 collected, and 5 cents for a dollar owed is a profit at that point.

This practice isn't illegal, is under-reguated and under-enforced.  Every time a debt changes hands it becomes like a first-time attempt to collect it, meaning you and I have to prove it's invalid all over again.  The next collector is free and clear to try anything to collect on it, until they start breaking laws.

After I contact ACEI and attempt to get some info from them, I'm going to look into how I can stop this invalid debt from being sold again.  If I have any success, I'm going to put it up here.

My father informed me of a robo-message that ended up on their answering machine from ACEI.  I have'nt lived with my parents in over ten years, and have had no contact attempts by ACEI on my phone or by letter.  Since this is the first I'm hearing of a debt collection from ACEI, I decided to arm myself and research them thoroughly.  Nothing I've found so far has been a surprise, they're typical of debt collectors and try to bend the law.  Plenty of complaints about their practices.

I have only had one debt collection in my entire life, pertaining to an invalid debt from an internet provider that failed to provide internet service due to network infrastructure damage.  The buried cable in my neighborhood had never been maintained properly, and they were not able to provide service.  When I canceled my account they tried to bill me for $120.  I called them, was told they'd remove any charges.  Then they billed me for $70.  Again, customer rep said that would be removed.  Then a bill for $30 and yet again customer rep assured it would be removed.

After that I got a letter from a collection agency in California, for the amount of $71.82, exactly the amount the IP was trying to bill me for the second time.  Three months of correspondence, and I finally contacted the IP, sent them copies of all letters (collection agency and mine) before it went away.

Two months later, a collection agency in Virginia started contacting me about a debt of $71.82.  I contacted them several times, received several bogus claims and contacted the IP again with copies of correspondence.

That seemed to do the trick.  If you know where the debt originated from and can prove it's invalid, send copies of everything to their corporate office or headquarters.  I didnt even explain why I was sending that info to my old IP, just copies of the letters from the collector and letters I had sent them.

Now after almost a year ACEI is calling my parents at their home number, before they even contacted me.  As I have only ever had one collections problem, I am 99% ceratin it's the same debt.  I am planning on contacting ACEI today.  I am going to start by asking them to provide verifiaction of the debt by letter, ask for names, what company the debt originated from, and when they received it.  I suspect they will be evasive, but what the hell?

I received a call from (703) 253-7000 the lady asked if she could speak with me so I say speaking.
She said she's calling about a personal business matter could I verify my street number and I told her no I'm not until I know what this is in reference to and what company I'm speaking with so she tells me you can get my credit report to find out who they are and then give them a call back.  I told her I will give my attorney there number to contact them since she wouldn't take my attorneys contact information.  She even tried to tell me its against the law for them to take my attorneys information or for them to provide me with any information regarding the debit or there business until I verified if I was the correct person.  I will be providing there information to my attorney.  Do not verify any personal information.

These people have always played dirty - they are the scum of the earth collections for medical and old cable bills.  I don't ever recommend dealing with them, when you are ready to pay the bill, contact the original creditor and pay them directly.  That's what I plan to do when I can pay the two ER bills I owe.  What I find particularly annoying is that they never MAIL anything to you so you know just what it is they are talking about.  If you honestly don't know why they are calling, get a copy of your credit report. Then, as I said, deal with the original creditor directly.  These guys suck!

Since jail cells typically lack private phone service, your friend the alleged debtor will be hard to reach and you as a "near-by" should expect more of the same skip tracing. By law you cannot be told more than a business name unless you can legally represent your pal. That said, there's no cause for the rep's rudeness, and too much of that can get his boss sued by you.

To a ''not me'' case I always recommend putting the agency on notice, just as you would if you were the target and the debt claim was invalid. Send a cease-comm notice via USPS Certified with return card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft one. This will set a legal landmine, as such a notice is ignored at their peril.

Learn how to exercise your FDCPA rights as an alleged debtor at FTC-dot-gov.

A man called my unlisted home phone number today asking for a friend of mine who has been in jail for nearly two years.  When I asked him who he was and why he was calling me, he replied in a very rude tone, "Well, I'm not going to discuss HIS business with YOU!"  So I said, "Since you are calling MY phone in MY home, the only person here to talk with IS me and I suggest that you LOSE this number right away and play your little secretive games somewhere else because I WILL report you."
He hung up, hope this will not happen again.

I have received probably 6 phone calls from this agency asking for a person who happens to have the same first name as I but not the same middle initial nor last name.  When I answered, I told them I wasn't the person they named.  She asked if I lived on Brownsville Road and if my DOB was 1959--the answer to both being "NO."  I emphatically explained that I've been told I'd be removed from the list in the past and that I was tired of receiving these types of calls.  She said she would remove me from the list.  Yea, right!  We'll see.  I'm going to file a complaint with the BBB.

I am pretty sure this isn't even a collections agency, as they can't give details about your supposed debt.  The phone system is designed to keep you going in circles until they can get to you, and from the above messages I am pretty sure that it is an organized con designed to get information from you, and then hopefully get you to think you are indebted.

I received a call from this number and it was  soft spoken lady that said that she needed to speak to me on a very personal level. I have to say this voice was very sexy and really would make the average man scratch his head. Well my wife heard it and got real definsive and called this lady to find out who she was and why she would be calling for her husband. To say the least that didnt go so well. Be careful people the credeters are playing dirty.
