I had a VM today from Ronald Murphy at the DEA. He asked me to return his call and left his number - 617-502-0553.

Rather than calling the number left by "Mr. Murphy" directly, I went to the DEA's website. l found their Boston office main number as 617-502-0553. I called that number and asked for a Ronald Murphy. I was told that no such  person exists at the DEA. I was then told not to call the number back, as it was likely a scam.

he DEA directed me to the following website for information on this popular scam:
http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/pubs/pressreleases/extortion_scam.htm

I then googled 617-502-0553 and found these postings. After reading the postings, I
did report "Mr. Murphy" and suggest others that receive similar calls do the same. The DEA is tracking down and prosecuting these people.

This time he identified himself as agent Anthony Williams of the DEA. He said i might be arrest unless I pay $3000 to the courts in the Bahamas, because the police in the Bahamas want to take me to court for buying medicine on line, from the bahamas.  Anthony Williams said buying medicine on line is against the law, I told him i wanted to go to court to fight the charges- he got mad and hung up. Now every other week a new  DEA Agent calls (different names)----- I just hang up.

Just received ANOTHER call from this whack job. But the number has changed now it shows as 850-615-1291.  He said his name was Lt. "Mr." Larry Jackson.  The last time he called, my husband told him to come on to the house he had something for him & then cocked his gun so the man could hear it.  Larry hung up and then would NOT return any of our calls.  Just wanted to give you all the new number so you can block!

I got a call from Mr. Jackson today, but from 617-502-0553.

Same thing - threats and a lot of bogus information. When I called him a liar for his having telephone call recordings, he said the agents would appear at my door and gave my address.

Here is a curiosity - a search for DEA Boston, (617) 800-4161 was answered by "Larry Jackson".

Extortion scam - just ignore his calls.

This man has called me 6 or 8 times over the past two years.  His names and numbers change, but, the scam stays the same.

He identifies himself as an officer with the DEA and says you need to call him immediately relative to an ongong investigation into the online purchase of medications.  (True, I purchased meds online about 6 years ago, after an accident.)

This time he identified himself as Lt. Larry Jackson with a division of the DEA.

Past phone calls/calls I've looked up from this guy - others reports he threatens them with arrest unless the immediately pay him $3000 or $5000 or $10,000 via credit card or paypal.  He threatens, if you don't pay him immediately, he will come over and arrest you.   others report when they refuse to pay him, he never shows up to arrest you.

No real officer of the law would threaten you with extortion.  It is highly illegal.

So, if this guy has called you, just ignore him.  He will call back in a few months.  Ignore him again.  And report him to services like this.
