multiple calls with out a message, once I caught the call i was asked to hold for the next available representative, where I was on hold for about 3 to 5 mins listening to little beeps (this is a huge pet-peave, if you call me don't put me on hold.) once a representative answered  they said they were from comcast and would only offer further explanation after I provided personal info. I stated I wanted more info regarding what it is about before I gave personal info to a unknown person without more info and they hung up on me.

I get these damn calls all the time on my cell phone and I am never, ever behind with payments. In fact for personal financial reasons I pay the same day the bill notification arrives via e-mail.
I too have been asked to provide personal information without any confirmation of who I am talking too. If there was no monopoly on cable I would tell them to go %%$$#$*&^(_(*^&)**%%$#&^%$*&%%@$&^%$(&^)(*_)^&^*$#%.

These people actually do represent Comcast, and do make automated phone calls on past due accounts that Comcast sends them. It isn't there falut, it's Comcast's. When comcast sends the account it is past due or appers to be by Comcast. these people just do their job but they can only do it as good as the imformation they have which Comcast provides and update's. This is a collections company hired by Comcast to collect overdue bills. Our bill was 2 days late in December and we have been getting calls since even though our bill was not only brought to date, we paid the January bill early. We keep calling Comcast and they say the problem will be taken care of but guess what? I got another call today. For 2 weeks these people have been calling when this issue should never have gone to collections in the first place. If you keep getting harrassed contact your BBB and the Attorney Generals office. It is against the law to harass people after they have been asked to cease and desist. If I owed them money I wouldn't complain.

I paid Comcast in full on August 12th, on August 17th I have an outsourced company attempting to collect on a bill that was already paid.  They insisted I give them my credit card and pay the full amount which was already credited to my Comcast account PAID IN FULL.

This is an attempt to collect on a bill that has already been paid, WHY IN THE HELL IS THIS ALLOWED TO GO ON, IT IS ILLEGAL TO ATTEMPT TO COLLECT ON A BILL THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID!

Comcast customer service tells me they only update their deliquent customers on a weekly basis,
why is this, in this day and age the account should show clear in seconds.

Debt Collector
Debt Collection FAQs: A Guide for Consumers

If you?re behind in paying your bills, or a creditor?s records mistakenly make it appear that you are, a debt collector may be contacting you.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation?s consumer protection agency, enforces the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which prohibits debt collectors from using abusive, unfair, or deceptive practices to collect from you.

Under the FDCPA, a debt collector is someone who regularly collects debts owed to others. This includes collection agencies, lawyers who collect debts on a regular basis, and companies that buy delinquent debts and then try to collect them.

Here are some questions and answers about your rights under the Act.
What types of debts are covered?

The Act covers personal, family, and household debts, including money you owe on a personal credit card account, an auto loan, a medical bill, and your mortgage. The FDCPA doesn?t cover debts you incurred to run a business.
Can a debt collector contact me any time or any place?

No. A debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8 in the morning or after 9 at night, unless you agree to it. And collectors may not contact you at work if they?re told (orally or in writing) that you?re not allowed to get calls there.
How can I stop a debt collector from contacting me?

If a collector contacts you about a debt, you may want to talk to them at least once to see if you can resolve the matter ? even if you don?t think you owe the debt, can?t repay it immediately, or think that the collector is contacting you by mistake. If you decide after contacting the debt collector that you don?t want the collector to contact you again, tell the collector ? in writing ? to stop contacting you. Here?s how to do that:

Make a copy of your letter. Send the original by certified mail, and pay for a ?return receipt? so you?ll be able to document what the collector received. Once the collector receives your letter, they may not contact you again, with two exceptions: a collector can contact you to tell you there will be no further contact or to let you know that they or the creditor intend to take a specific action, like filing a lawsuit. Sending such a letter to a debt collector you owe money to does not get rid of the debt, but it should stop the contact. The creditor or the debt collector still can sue you to collect the debt.
Can a debt collector contact anyone else about my debt?

If an attorney is representing you about the debt, the debt collector must contact the attorney, rather than you. If you don?t have an attorney, a collector may contact other people ? but only to find out your address, your home phone number, and where you work. Collectors usually are prohibited from contacting third parties more than once. Other than to obtain this location information about you, a debt collector generally is not permitted to discuss your debt with anyone other than you, your spouse, or your attorney.
What does the debt collector have to tell me about the debt?

Every collector must send you a written ?validation notice? telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don?t think you owe the money.
Can a debt collector keep contacting me if I don?t think I owe any money?

If you send the debt collector a letter stating that you don?t owe any or all of the money, or asking for verification of the debt, that collector must stop contacting you. You have to send that letter within 30 days after you receive the validation notice. But a collector can begin contacting you again if it sends you written verification of the debt, like a copy of a bill for the amount you owe.
What practices are off limits for debt collectors?

Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:

   * use threats of violence or harm;
   * publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);
   * use obscene or profane language; or
   * repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone.

False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:

   * falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives;
   * falsely claim that you have committed a crime;
   * falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company;
   * misrepresent the amount you owe;
   * indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren?t; or
   * indicate that papers they send to you aren?t legal forms if they are.

Debt collectors also are prohibited from saying that:

   * you will be arrested if you don?t pay your debt;
   * they?ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so; or
   * legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don?t intend to take the action.

Debt collectors may not:

   * give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit reporting company;
   * send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency if it isn?t; or
   * use a false company name.

Unfair practices. Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt. For example, they may not:

   * try to collect any interest, fee, or other charge on top of the amount you owe unless the contract that created your debt ? or your state law ? allows the charge;
   * deposit a post-dated check early;
   * take or threaten to take your property unless it can be done legally; or
   * contact you by postcard.

Can I control which debts my payments apply to?

Yes. If a debt collector is trying to collect more than one debt from you, the collector must apply any payment you make to the debt you select. Equally important, a debt collector may not apply a payment to a debt you don?t think you owe.
Can a debt collector garnish my bank account or my wages?

If you don?t pay a debt, a creditor or its debt collector generally can sue you to collect. If they win, the court will enter a judgment against you. The judgment states the amount of money you owe, and allows the creditor or collector to get a garnishment order against you, directing a third party, like your bank, to turn over funds from your account to pay the debt.

Wage garnishment happens when your employer withholds part of your compensation to pay your debts. Your wages usually can be garnished only as the result of a court order. Don?t ignore a lawsuit summons. If you do, you lose the opportunity to fight a wage garnishment.
Can federal benefits be garnished?

Many federal benefits are exempt from garnishment, including:

   * Social Security Benefits
   * Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Benefits
   * Veterans? Benefits
   * Civil Service and Federal Retirement and Disability Benefits
   * Service Members? Pay
   * Military Annuities and Survivors? Benefits
   * Student Assistance
   * Railroad Retirement Benefits
   * Merchant Seamen Wages
   * Longshoremen?s and Harbor Workers? Death and Disability Benefits
   * Foreign Service Retirement and Disability Benefits
   * Compensation for Injury, Death, or Detention of Employees of U.S. Contractors Outside the U.S.
   * Federal Emergency Management Agency Federal Disaster Assistance

But federal benefits may be garnished under certain circumstances, including to pay delinquent taxes, alimony, child support, or student loans.
Do I have any recourse if I think a debt collector has violated the law?

You have the right to sue a collector in a state or federal court within one year from the date the law was violated. If you win, the judge can require the collector to pay you for any damages you can prove you suffered because of the illegal collection practices, like lost wages and medical bills. The judge can require the debt collector to pay you up to $1,000, even if you can?t prove that you suffered actual damages. You also can be reimbursed for your attorney?s fees and court costs. A group of people also may sue a debt collector as part of a class action lawsuit and recover money for damages up to $500,000, or one percent of the collector?s net worth, whichever amount is lower. Even if a debt collector violates the FDCPA in trying to collect a debt, the debt does not go away if you owe it.
What should I do if a debt collector sues me?

If a debt collector files a lawsuit against you to collect a debt, respond to the lawsuit, either personally or through your lawyer, by the date specified in the court papers to preserve your rights.
Where do I report a debt collector for an alleged violation?

Report any problems you have with a debt collector to your state Attorney General?s office (www.naag.org) and the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov). Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General?s office can help you determine your rights under your state?s law.

Debt Collector
Every person that currently has or may ever have any collection action against them needs to know what the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is and what it says. This law tells you and the debt collector what they can and cannot do and it protects you as a debtor. You need to do your research and know that the debt collectors cannot do and then put a stop to it. Tell them not to call you at work, not to call before 8am or after 9pm, not to call you on your cell phone since you have it with you at work, not call you - yes, you absolutely can tell them AND force them, with a simple letter return receipted, NOT to call you at all (cease and desist telephonic contact - any and all communication in regards to debt will be via written correspondence only. And no, they cannot fax you at work - that's contacting you at work remember? Same with work email - same thing.
You also need to know that a lot of these collection calls are NOT from the original creditor and are from instead a 2nd, 3rd, and so on, party debt collector. That is important because you can tell those people that you will be resolving the debt with the original creditor ONLY and those people have to stop. Yeah, it is that easy. Do the research, you won't regret it.

Debt collection agencies, regardless of their motivations or intent, have rules and laws they MUST follow in regards to their debt collection practices. You can give any reason or excuse you want, but the bottom line is simple: the number on that caller id MUST be for your company, you can not block the number, you cannot spoof the number, you cannot use a number you do not own, you cannot use a number for a company that is not involved in that specific collection action. You cannot be rude, use swear words, offensive words, you cannot threaten, you cannot threaten legal action you cannot take, you cannot threaten legal action your company is not willing or able to take at that moment in time. You also cannot call back repeatedly within a short period of time - that is harassment that is illegal under general criminal laws and you as a debt collector are not immune. You also cannot call before 8am or after 9pm - your debtor's time zone, not your time zone and that means 7:59am or earlier and 9:00pm and later. You also cannot pose as another company in an attempt to collect the debt. Also, if the debtor has notified you not to call them at work, you cannot do so - cell phones do not provide an exception of you know the user is at work. And remember, the debtor can verbally tell you - the debtor only needs written or verbally recorded proof if they seek to file legal action against you for violation and even one time after being told is enough to constitute violation. Just like you cannot call after being notified -verbally or by written notice - that the debtor wishes no telephonic contact.
 You, as a 2nd party, 3rd party and so on collection agency, also cannot contact a creditor after being notified by the debtor that they will work with the original creditor only to satisfy the debt and wishes no further contact with you. Additionally, you need to remember that your actions against the debtor can not only result in the debtor cutting off telephonic contact and forcing you to resort only to written contact, but that also the debtor, as mentioned before, can also cut off all contact and work with the original creditor only, can file legal action against you and your company for violations which are easy for the debtor to prove for one, and two, can result in you and your company having to pay the debtor - essentially you pay the debt now and then some AND can also cause legal action be started against your company with the debtor's particular state's attorney general resulting in you and your company AND all of it's agents being barred for collection actions in that particular state. You the agent can also be personally held liable for any and all actions you commit that are against the law - remember that word harassment?
 You the debtor needs to remember only this: The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). It not only helps you as the debtor fight back against unfair, unethical and even illegal debt collection tactics and actions, but also provides to the debt collections agencies and creditors what they can and cannot do. Read it, learn it, and use it. You need to know the law because not only do the collections agencies and agents know it, but there are plenty that violate it in hundreds of ways every single day to millions of debtors.

My husband paid our bill 2 days late due to his own accounting error. He saw that it needed to be paid and paid it about 2-3 days late.

We got a bill saying we owed that amount and the next months bill immediately. My husband had already paid the last amount so he took that off the bill and paid the remaining amount. Guess what? The next month wasn't even due but he sucked up the late charges without a complaint because it was his mistake on the Dec. bill.

Now we get calls from this idiot collection company daily even though we have called Comcast repeatedly and they say they will tell the collections company to cease calling. We have been treated rudely by all concerned and have resorted to trying to find a higher up at Comcast to take care of the problem.

I have had Comcast for years for phone,internet and cable and have never paid late yet they sent it to collections after only 3 days late? Ridiculous. So ridiculous that I am switching to satellite.

For those of you in the same position keep in mind that Comcast always bills a billing cycle ahead which means that if you are late by a day or two you are still paid ahead.

I would suggest complaining to the BBB and the Attorney Generals office about both companies. I am going to do so right now.

I received a call from this number at 1:53 p.m..  The caller sounded like a black man,identified himslef as working for Comcast, and wanted me to pay my bill over the tlephone in advanced.  I asked to speak to his supervisor.  It took seven minutes to cnnect to his supervosro, who said his name was "Tron," and that he was not Vietnamese, but that "Tron" was his name.  I don't know the spelleing of "Tron" whether or not it was "Tron" or Tron."  He also said that the individual with whom I previsoulsy spoke was not black and that his name was Robert.  He sounded sort of black and possibly slightly lethargic, like space out on drugs perhaps-- or maybe it was just the particualr drawl that he had.  At any rat, I kept "Tron|" on the tlephone for a number of minutes, and was told to call billing at 1_800-Comcast.  The caller claimed that this number, 1-703-757-7200 was the Receivable trecovery number for Comcast, and that I was being given a courtesy call to determine whether or not I wished to pay my Comcast Bill in advance over the telephone- yeah, sure!  Alos, I was told that  I could call 1-800- Comcast and ask to speak to the head of collections in order to find out  why my tlephone number had been forwarded to the Recovery operation for advanced pre-payment of my bill.  I called Comcast, and via the automated system discovere d that my last payment had been made in December and that nothing was owed on the account!

I have been receiving calls from this number for about a week now.  They call almost every day.  Something about my 'Comcast account', 'urgent', 'call before 9:00 PM tonight' and the number to call is 800-532-0493.  A little research at 411.com shows four distinct businesses at this number.  Three of them at the same address: 766 Walker Rd,
Great Falls, VA 22066-2652 and one at PO Box 648, Great Falls, VA 22066-0648.  A look at the Northern Virginia BBB shows two different business at this number one at the Walker Rd address and one at 11260 Roger Bacon Drive, suite 504, Reston, VA 20190.  These addresses are not for Comcast or any Comcast affiliate I can identify and none of the business names represent Comcast in any way.

This has to be some kind of phishing scam.  It may have a legitimate purpose but the practice is not and may very well be illegal due to business name and / or telephone number misrepresentation.  Report them to the Virginia State Department for violating telephone solicitation laws.  Enough complaints like that might just stop this practice by this "business".

This number called me every day for the past 5 business days. I answer, the recording starts, "This is an important call from Comcast. Please press 1 to speak to an agent." I would, and the call would drop after a minute of silence.

I tried calling back, but was told all available agents were busy, and please hold. I didn't want to waste my cell phone minutes.

I called Comcast and they said everything was in order. I finally got a person at this 703 number (they answered as "RNC" before switching me over to someone who answered "Comcast"). They asked if I wanted to make a payment on my Comcast bill. I said everything is paid. He asked if I was sure, that I could make the payment and settle it then and there. I said no. That was the end.

Very suspicious.
