I got a call and about did not call back,  but no the guy who called me NEVER asked for personal info. He was very hard to understand, but seemed legit,  but found the email in my spam box,  ???
When I went back and read the job offer it is for a 6 month position. Think it is legit, but I do not want to get a small contract job even if the pay seems okay.

You do realize that it is illegal to ask for that information up front, for any type of interview? They are breaking so many EEOC rules it is not even funny. How can a staffing company not know that what they are asking is illegal and breaking rules?

I too have received a call. I have held executive level positions and at no point was a social security number ever requested by anyone in the interview process. I was also asked for my D.O.B. which as most of you know is never required for an interview. This company Lancesoft states they represent other staffing agencies like Randstad and Manpower. Something tells me that even the US organizations such as Randstad and Manpower would know that this type of information is not only not necessary for an interview, but some questions are actually illegal to ask for an interview.

So can someone please explain to me how this behavior is normal or how this company is operating legally within the US by asking candidates to provide this information.

Whatever. Like I've said before regarding companies asking for social security numbers - "create your OWN number system".

Ignorant? Total opposite. I've registered with numerous headhunters that do not require a SS number until hired. Landsoft requires this info to make a file? Create your own damn number system

I got the same call from Ruchi.  I complied with all the BS, and I am now working for UPS. Sure, they eff up the English badly, one guy was so bad I refused to speak with him, but if you jump through the BS hoops, they can and will place you.  Pretty much all the Indian contingency recruiters are the same.  Stupid a** questions,  same scripts on calls, multiple calls about the same job, but I can't argue with my paycheck.

I get regular calls and email from these people. In fact they just called and this is when I decided to look up the number. I'm always surprised they send me the listings because I never feel I'm qualified for the job. I'm glad I've read all of the postings.
I do want to point out that if you choose to report this the FBI I'm sure they'll be grateful for the info and is probably already aware of it but there is Nothing they can do about it. Because the calls are coming from a different country. They don't govern India in other words they don't have jurisdiction hence why it's contiueing to happen. If calls coming on cell then block the number.
Hope that helps. Peace.

I got a lengthy job description from LanceSoft Inc. today for an Admin position at UPS.  They wanted DOB, social, you name it.  Told her I was not giving my social over the phone or internet. She even wanted copies of my transcript or diploma.  So I called their headquarters, a man stating he was in HR stated that was standard procedure and of course he was from India too.  Why would someone from HR answer the phone from their headquarters.  Wouldn't you think a receptionist would answer their main number?  The rep that called was from India, I couldn't understand most of what she was saying.  Hey if it doesn't feel right don't do it, too much identity theft these days.

I have also just received an email from a woman named Ruchi. She called a few minutes later and offered me a position with UPS also but when I had mentioned that I had sent my resume previously to someone with the exact same job description and details, she quickly got off the phone.

No they're ignorant not for questioning the company, but to automatically assume its a scam because of the callers nationality or because, "They barely spoke English" as the person put it.

Scammers for sure... Ruchi called asking for personal information.  After having received the same canned email as others have received.  I refused to provide my SSN and asked why can they not create a unique identifier using any other numbers, she stammered.  I said I only give this information out when I have the job offer, not before.  She then said, she understand my not being comfortable, and she cannot submit my resume.  Said she had other candidates to submit.  If a recruiter / staffing agency gives up on a potential candidate that they deem is an "excellent fit" for the job because they refuse to provide confidential information ie., SSN, date of birth, etc, then they are Scam Artists - big time!  Beware!!!

I just got an email from they with the same line only 3 months plus, a woman named Ruchi.  I checked the number, better business bureau, their website, AND UPS to see if the position was available in my area.  There was no position available for an admin asst I.  I don't want to believe they are being dishonest but my gut says no one asks for ssn's over the phone and they certainly don't ask for it over the internet. So I sent her an email letting her know I checked all these resources and did not feel it was appropriate or professional to ask for sensitive material.

Received about a dozen phone calls from a recruiter from LanceSoft Inc offering me a job opportunity. The guy pretends he never called me before which he has for the same job detail and description, asking the same questions repeatedly. He has said he will send me an email confirming everything he described to me. When I asked him that he didn't send me a email, he became rude and I hung up the phone only to call me back repeatedly after that, using up 1 Hour of my voicemail space just today alone. I have since blocked his number. The phone number he called me from 703-889-6849 ports to a call center in India.

Shrirah, you're full of BS.  You must be one of these scammers that go phishing in people's emails, and you're upset because the folks in this forum are too wise to fall for shenanigans.

Bottom line, I've worked for three Fortune 500 companies, and NONE of them asked for my SSN initially.  That's the purpose of applications and the like.  If LanceSoft was serious, they'd recommend that a candidate fill out an application.
