This was IBM calling for the USPS study regarding how much the new 'Smart' Barcodes are used in relation to regular barcodes on mail.
unclebriny 2011-06-06 20:54:55 Unknown
Number showed up on caller ID as "IBM".
Mr Nifty 2011-04-25 21:43:18 Unknown
Company does test mailings to check on postal service delivery times. Been doing it on and off for years.
Easy way to earn some free stamps. You won't get rich!
Leon 2011-03-21 22:34:15 Unknown
Don't take the letter to the USPS. The testing is strictly confidential as mail carriers and customer service clerks are to remain unaware. USPS upper management has knowledge of the test study but not regular staff.

This is legit, its IBM and they do track test mail, I have been doing it since this summer, they sent me a scanner because they needed reporters in my area. When reporting you get points that can be used to redeem for gifts, of course just like credit card points it takes a lot to get anything worth while. I have only ever recieved one phone call from them and that was today, didn't answer because I was at work.
DAN 2010-09-23 17:44:51 Unknown
i got a letter from supposed to be the usps saying they want me to scan mail they would send me and in return they would give me points i could redeem for gifts. They were going to send me a scanner i could use to scan barcodes on mail they would send me but not my own mail..Now i am getting phone calls form a company called ARTOMATIC with the same number as we are complaining about .

Everyone - this is legit. USPS has contracted with IBM to have people send, receive and report test mail to gauge the efficiency of the USPS. As for receiving money, I don't know what is being offered to the senders, but as a receiver/reporter, I get about 5 stamps every month or so and no actual cash. I view it more as volunteering for the government more than anything.

I, too, thought it was a fraud. Took letter to local Post Office. The clerk said never heard of such a thing. Then, since I do need to make some extra money, called IBM (International Business Machines), at a local number. They said they have contracted with the Post Office for 20 years to run checks on PO efficiency. Finally called the number given in the letter, told to call back Pacific Coast time. Believe this is authentic. I agree it pays to be suspicious and I initially thought it was a scam, but did check it out. Will call them tomorrow.

Got a Letter from outfit claiming to be IBM.It shouted
EARN EXTRA MONEY BY MAILING TEST LETTERS FOR THE POSTAL SERVICE. yeah, right, I was born yesterday!
How the heck did these fraudsters get my name, address? I`m contacting the USPS Criminal Investigating Center regarding this garbage.
There was a 1 800 770 2974 given, but I`m not stupid enough to call it or click their e mail link.
If there actually is a Barbara Skerry -Whog, I`d like to see her, him or it prosecuted and convicted of mail fraud. I`m sick of scam artists.

This is a call service for the US Postal Service-like when and if they have contacted you about secret shopping for them

Tom 2009-07-21 17:47:56 Unknown
They won't pay you money, they give you a few stamps to help them out. then you get inundated by tons of test mail. I thought it would be fun to help them out. It turned into a huge pain.
It is IBM, We do the test mailings each 2009-06-24 01:22:32 Unknown
It is IBM, We do the test mailings each as a sideline for $4-16 US per month . We have had a few spare dollars for about 5 years..It is legit.

703-923-7000 is an IBM call center. Calls from this center are to field staff. If you get a call from this number and it is not for you it probably is:
1) misdial
2) the number they have for the staffer was misread or otherwise screwed up.
These folks were very apologetic when they called my number and were sending the number to another department for correction.
Tom 2009-06-22 22:58:37 Unknown
I received a letter as well. It said I would receive stamps every other month. How much is the total value of the stamps you receive for doing this?
Thanks,
Tom

Someone from this number calls everyday, sometimes twice a day.
They don't leave a message and it is quite annoying.

I receive information from ibm to participate in the mail report survey. This is real, because I thought that it can be a fraud.
beachbum 2008-11-20 22:40:52 Unknown

I received a letter from "Barbara Wherry-Skog" also like the one Amy describes. The phone number was different: 1-800-770-2974. I sent an e-mail to the address provided:
TTMS-Recruiting@us.ibm.com
I received a reply almost immediately: "Thank you for your interest. We will get back to you if the position is still available."
Am I being scammed or frauded?
fritz 2008-10-15 04:09:08 Unknown
Umm, Amy. A Google search shows no such info. No Barbara Wherry-Skog. No barbara.wherry-skog@us.ibm.com. No "1-703-923-7000 x7028".
Care to share a link to the "IBM Employee Directory" that you supposedly found her in.
My current assumption: THIS IS A FRAUD.
Amy 2008-09-13 22:35:28 Unknown
This number actually belongs to Barbara Wherry-Skog, Deputy Project Executive at IBM in Springfield, VA. I received a letter in the mail describing how to earn extra money by mailing test letters. I found the phone number in the IBM Employee Directory. Wonder if this is legit?
Barbara L. (BARBARA) Wherry-Skog
Email: barbara.wherry-skog@us.ibm.com
Telephone: 1-703-923-7000 x7028
Location: Springfield, USA

They left a message. It is a Group called IBM that does mailings through the US postal Service without them knowing. Then people report back to them how long the mail piece took to get to them. They are a legitimate business that tracks the mail to help increase postal productivity.
