Dude you need to get a life.
Justin 2013-10-02 00:49:28 Unknown
The University thrives upon alumni by calling them 2-3 times per day!? I think not. You all received enough of our money while we were there. Harassing alumni is not a good approach. Reduce your calls to 2-3 times per year and maybe you'll gain some interest.

Keeps calling, despite my repeated attempts to be removed from the list. Have talked to my lawyer, and a suit will be filed soon.
orclev 2013-03-22 22:03:13 Unknown
Maybe they should try calling actual alumni instead of people who are still students at the school, since I've been getting these calls since the first semester I transferred to Mason. :/

Here's an idea! Don't call while I'm doing the whole bedtime thing with my kids? Most of the calls have come to me damn near 8pm Central. It is completely inappropriate to call non-family, without an emergency, after 7pm. I'm not terribly inclined to donate to GMU if they aren't going to treat me and my family with common courtesy.
Mason Student 2012-03-27 01:27:20 Unknown
So why are you calling me when I haven't even graduated yet? Aren't you getting enough of my money as it is??
GMU Grad 2012-03-20 00:46:25 Unknown
And you are a rude jack*** who bothers people for a living.
Not a fun job 2012-02-22 00:32:10 Unknown
When I was a student at George Mason, I was required to participate in the phone solicitation in order to receive a passing grade in my marketing class. It was not fun. I didn't like having to call and bother people either. Who would? So if you're not interested in donating, just be polite, tell them you're not interested, and ask them to please remove your name from the call list. I don't guarantee that it will work, but it's not worth getting upset at a poor student for a phone call.

I got several calls, and also got a letter saying
"Dear Mr X,
Since you have not enrolled in 2 semesters, your e-mail account will be deactivated in 2 weeks, unless you prove that you are enrolled in classes. And calling and saying you are enrolled is not proof of enrollment".
1. I haven't registered because I matriculated.
2. I earned a Doctorate from their university...and as such would have thought that they might have addressed me as such. Not that I have ever pulled out the "call me Dr" card...but you think that they might want to play up the fact if they want me to contribute.
They can keep their e-mail address...it had only 50 mb of storage anyway and was constantly overfilled with crap anyway. And, in return, I will keep my money.

In other words, they can bug as much as they want.
However, you have several options, ranging from polite to not so. They are:
1. Call one: Tell them that because they have ignored your request not to be bothered, you will never send them a penny.
2. Call two: Inform them that if they continue to call in spite of your request that they do not do so, you will be forced to treat them like any other harassing call and blow a whistle in their ear. As them to read that statement back.
3. Call three: Do so.
No one, irregardless of how noble their cause, has a moral right to harass you, and asking not to be called and being ignored is harassment, even if it's not considered a legal issue. It's also one of the best ways (in my book, anyhow) to guarantee that you will not get anything from me. You pay for your phone, and in spite of the many people who make their living off of bother people for money because what they are representing deserves your financial support, you do have a right not to be bothered in your own home on an instrument you pay for.

I agree that the best way to stop the calls is to simply ask them to put you on their Do Not Call list, however, your remark about the FCC is incorrect. Anyone wanting to report phone calls, for any reason, would report them to the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION (FTC), not the FCC.

If GMU wanted donations from its law alumni, maybe it shouldn't have double tuition while we were in school. Expenses didn't double, so the school pocketed the difference and now expects even more. Bite me.
M 2011-06-06 20:54:57 Unknown
it's a George Mason number
GMU representative 2011-06-06 20:54:57 Unknown
Hi Guys,
This number belongs to GMU's call center. Student callers solicit alumni to encourage them to give back to their Alma Mater. If you would not like to join the rest of your fellow Patriots by donating, then tell the phone representative that you are not interested.
The success of the University thrives upon alumni particpation numbers; we hope you will consider donating in the future!

Who are they?
Diana 2011-05-26 01:04:29 Unknown
I keep getting calls and when I say "hello" there is a hang up right away! Way to get me to donate funds George Mason! Actually, way to get me to NOT donate funds!! Get your act together "non-profit"-- your call center is an embarrassment to the school!!
seriously? 2011-04-27 16:55:33 Unknown
Really, people? Pick up the phone, politely say you're not interested and ask to have your name removed from the list. Want to know how much time that will take? 30 seconds top.
And good luck reporting to the FCC - they don't regulate nonprofits.

The National Do-Not-Call Registry only applies to for-profit organizations. Universities, political campaigns, and charities are exempt. Sorry, you don't have a case.
former mason fundraising staff 2011-04-11 23:14:10 Unknown
If they are calling do-not-call numbers, that is illegal no matterhow worthy the cause. Also I have been getting these calls and nobody leaves a message. That is extremely rude.

won't stop calling. looking into legal action
Darby 2010-11-21 18:29:59 Unknown
Called repeatedly, even though my number is unlisted. Have reported them to FCC and federal authorities.
Yergo 2010-09-23 18:52:00 Non-profit Organization
These are just student workers calling to raise funds, so they're just doing their job. I suggest you 'save' the number, and name it "DO NOT ANSWER". I've had it set up like this in my cellphone now for several years, and it works like a charm. I just give in other ways to the school (usually through mailing).
