I called them back (704-243-5004) and the message said to leave a message or my number to be put on their "no call back list". After the message finished another message came on saying that the mailbox was full and will not accept any messages.
They have been blocked on my cell phone!

New Bay Media is a completely legitimate publisher of trade magazines for the entertainment industry, just as a few others here have pointed out. Now this MMG thing is apparently a company that New Bay hired to ask if individuals would like to renew their subscriptions. If you are not receiving any of the trade magazines then somehow MMG got hold of you by mistake and they certainly would not benefit unless they reached someone who was already a subscriber. It would be a complete waste of their time to call anyone who was not connected with the entertainment industry. Actually, I've avoided answering but now that I know they're hired by New Bay Media I'm going to answer them next time. I expect they'll probably ask the same questions that I frequently fill out online to continue receiving the trade magazines and I don't mind giving them the same information...if they already know my personal & business name and reference to pro audio then I know they're legitimate. I'm just puzzled why they need to hire someone to call since I've always just responded to their emails and no phone was needed. Well, actually back in the 1970s it was just Mix Magazine. New Bay Media is the most recent owner/publisher. I'm not saying I know the latest owners all that well.

They call repeatedly, each time leaving a 20 second VM including either heavy breathing or what sounds like pen tapping.

I beg to differ. I have had my phone number for 15 years. THIS IS SPAM CALLING. Nor have I opted in on receiving calls at my number.

This is just a phony tie-line number tagged to Waxhaw, NC, used by a foreign call center to solicit trade magazine subscriptions (among other things), identified on Caller Id as "MMG," which may be a criminal telemarketing enterprise. I put them in the usual category of animals and devil worshippers, as they don't even have the human being courtesy of leaving a message. A pox on them. It is suspected they also use (252) 991-5889, which is another phony tie-line number tagged to Wilson, NC. The :"business" behind these crank calls is likely the following:
MMG Telemarketing LLC 8701 Mallard Creek Rd Charlotte, NC 28262 (704) 602-3952
More calls grouped into the totality of nuisance calls. It is assumed that all improperly or incompletely identified numbers are from the increasing number of scams, frauds, tie-lines, etc. This is why everyone must contact their elected reps in DC to demand that they significantly strengthen the DNC laws, providing extremely severe dollar and prison sentences for violators. This is an opportunity for Congress to actually do something useful for the country, not just pass gas and throw spitballs at each other. Any business must be properly identified with their legal name on Caller Id, not hide behind Not Available, Private, Unavailable, etc. It is time to ban any kind of solicitation call, whether charitable, political, survey, opinion poll or whatever, plus use of tie lines and use of numbers not issued by a legitimate, FCC licensed common carrier (telephone company). You can be assured that funds donated over the phone will mostly go into the pockets of the organizers, not to the charity or political campaign, along with a $10 donation showing up as $100s in charges. Never give a credit card number or any personal data to anyone over the phone. There must be a new scam and fraud being generated every second out there. We need call control, not gun control!

Caller ID shows MMG. "Jen" called (very, very bad connection, by the way-had to ask her twice what her name was) and asked for one of our Engineers. I asked what company she was with and she said "Product Design and Development" magazine regarding a subscription. The Engineer in question I could hear in the office next to mine-BUSY-so no way am I going to put a silly call like this through to him. Customer, yes. Telemarketer, NO. Put her on hold until she hung up.
| Mark 2013-11-07 22:29:20 Unknown |
They got my voicemail...and only left a couple of random automated noises (clicking) before disconnecting....

These callers are idiots, they do not know the basic business manner, of course cannot find a real job. They just want to make some money by making unsolicited calls. Ignore these idiots!!!
