I kind of wondered about that when they called for my daughter.  I thought that was too much information, and a message was left on my machine.  My daughter hasn't lived at home for 25 yrs.

I received a call this morning from this number, saying that she was a fraud investigator and asked if I had an attorney.  She then said that she wanted to set up a time to work out the 'mess' I "have gotten" myself into.  I get these calls from different phone numbers every few months, and usually they tell me that they will be coming to my work at a certain date and time, and that I should have my supervisor present when they come with a sheriff to arrest me.

People like you keep these losers in business.

I am accountant, bonded, I DO NOT write checks, I haven't in about 15 years (because of my ex) - so I can't possibly be committing check fraud - let them bring you to court, if you haven't done anything, then guess what, they can't accuse of it.  I have had these people calling every 4 or 5 years, doing the whole thing over again and again, except each "new name" they are under will call a different number, they will never call the same number again the next time they re-open (because they know that is a violation).

Yes, they "pretend" to be a law firm, however they are not.  Do not validate any information they ask you - also they do not let you talk - and if you try to, they talk over you and threaten you.

They also change their story, since they asked my mother-in-law for my previous married name, which I have been divorced from him for over 10 years.  When I called him on it, he said that she is the one that gave him that name (which is absolutely untrue).

Read up on the laws, they can't look up people and start to harass them, it is against the law.  If you can get them to actually send you anything, then take that to the atty General, since they are breaking laws in both the state they are in as well as your state.

They will go out of business, then open again under a different name and start all over again.

Called my cell phone today stating that they are from the check fraud unit and are calling to inform me they were trying to set up an appointment for service of process and under federal law they are inquiring as to whether I'd like my attorney present???  This is a scam and you are not to, under any circumstances, give them ANY personal information if you choose to call them back.  I am an attorney and there is no federal law that requires an inquiry as to whether you want your lawyer present for service of due process.  Especially when there is no law suit commenced against you in the first place.  Arm yourself with knowledge and read the FDCPA.
