Prank Call
Told me my computer was infected and wanted to fix it.  I started asking the person questions.  Like why don't you send me an email?  Give me your name and company phone number.  After talking to him and asking questions he ended the call by saying f... you.

John, we are also on the do not call list, I told them that and during that phone call he had the nerve to say "Listen Lady" I said no you listen, Its my phone, my computer and my business stop calling I know you are not with microsoft and this is a scam. He started to argue with me more but I hung up. I too have gotten calls at all hours usually they number is "out of area" or "Private" this is the first time in several months of getting these calls that I have a number. If you figure out how to get rid of them let me know. By the way, not only are we on the do not call list we also pay to have an unlisted phone number. Good Luck

We have been getting calls like this for months, Every time we are told they are with Microsoft and my computer is in serious trouble and will crash. We have told them no thank you, we have told them we know you are not from Microsoft because #1 Microsoft does not call every potential user if there is a problem they create a patch/fix and send it out on the internet. We have told them to stop calling, My husband has gone as far as yelling into the phone "STOP CALLING MY F*****G number" and hanging up. They usually call from a number listed as "out of area" or "Private" this time the call came in on a #. Its a scam, we know its a scam, they know we know its a scam and they still continue to call. Would like to file charges with the FCC or BBB or someone but fear that it is to no avail. IF you get this call, DO NOT GIVE ANY INFO. IT IS A SCAM

Told her I would have my IT tech check it out and she still insisted she was a tech w/Microsoft.  I cut her off repeating I would contact my IT tech and hung up.

Prank Call
Got the call, They came up with a new number. I jack with them. When I answered the call he went on and on..... I acted shocked and supprised and told him I only use my computer to pay all my bills and it had all my bank account numbers and credit card numbers,  user name and passwords stored. I work in IT so I'm not stupid. I told him I was running Windows 3.1. Now if you remember,.. that was the VERY first windows Microsoft ever made. It hasn't been used since oh,... I'd say the late 90's??? We all know Windows 95 hit and microsoft went gang busters making new operating systems after that. He haad no clue and went on about what I needed to do. I called him on it and told him "windows 3.1" was the first windows ever made and laughed my butt of at him he didn't know what to say. I also told him NEVER did I give "Microsoft" my phone number and I was onto his BS scam. "Microsoft" has better things to do than sit around and baby sit people. they are in the business of making money and making software. Not calling people to be nice.  He hung up.....like I didn't see that comming...WHAT A MORON!!!

Received a call from someone who said he was from Microsoft security and that the computer accached to our network was infected with malware.  I asked him which computer, since we had three home computers and two work computers on the network at that time.  He said that if was the computer running Windows.  Nice try.  I told him that we were all up to date with virus and internet security.  He was still very persistent until I finally hung up.

I got a call today from 704-325-9110, a person named Michael. He stated that my computer has been sending messages to Microsoft of 'issues' and possible infections in my computer. He want access to 'fix the problem'.  I ask him for his number and name, and he said make sure I ask for Michael. In the background I can hear quite a bit of noise sounding like a 'telephone boiler room'.  He also said his company is licensed with Microsoft to make these repairs. Sounds fishy to me. Microsoft should be made aware of this and post a response to Microsoft customers if this is valid or not. When Windows is first installed on ones computer, the question is proposed, click this button if you want your computer to send error reports back to Microsoft. So, I don't know if this is for real or not. Perhaps Microsoft should be contacted.

My experience is exactly the same as everyone above. A cold call from North Carolina, a man with a foreign (Indian) accent trying to say he was from Windows and I had malicious software on my computer that he wanted access to remove. I asked for a supervisor who he put on the line, who gave me the same phone number above and the website www.techapplet.com. I was suspicious so I told him I would call back tomorrow after researching the website. Then the first guy named Kevin  had the gall to call me back! I told him this is a scam and I would report him, and he argued with me even more. I even told him to add me to the Colorado no-call list and he kept arguing! I plan to send this info to Microsoft and to the Colorado attorney general. Stay tuned.

Just got this call, exactly the same scenario that other people are reporting about. I was suspicious and told him so, but he assured me he was from Windows. My suspicion kept me from going any further at the point of him wanting me to download the AMMYY software. I held him on the line, called my IT specialist friend on another line, and Googled the telephone number, which is listed as a scam. I got back on the phone with the caller, told him I believe this is a scam and am now calling the police. He hung up. I called the number he gave me and it just rang and rang. SCAM!

Received ANOTHER phone call where caller ID shows private name/number with someone saying they are from Microsoft and that it is urgernt. My computer is being hacked.  I listened this time to see what they are talking about and asked for a return number so that I could verify they were from Microsoft.  "Steve" gave me 704-325-9110 to call.  He even said it's toll free.
I DID NOT call back.

Those error messages he showed you are almost certainly just routine messages that Windows records for such thing as a memory page fault, your printer not being turned on, an attempt to access the internet before your system has fully established a connection via your router, etc.  They most certainly do not indicate that your computer was hacked or that it was infected.  However, had you actually granted them remote access, you almost certainly would have been hacked and any personal information on your computer stolen.  Microsoft does not ever initiate service calls, does not contract with third parties and does not provide third parties with contact information about users.  See their website:

I received a call this evening from someone saying that they represented Microsoft, and that my computer was
sending signals that it may have been hacked.  After a lenghty call, during which I asked if he really was trying to sell me something, he had me open some windows that showed how many error's my machine had, and then assured me it was about to crash.  He wanted me to talk to a tech, who was busy. and set a time to call me tomorrow.  He also advised me to shut down my computer, not go on line, untill they attempted to fix it.  He did give me a call back number (704=325-9110 )   which I looked up on line, and found it was a skam.

Just an hour ago, on Nov. 25, 2013, I received a call from a Brad from India who stated he was representing MS Windows, and wanting to help me remove corrupt files.  He said that he was calling from NC, but they also had offices in London and Australia.  I was uncomfortable with this scenario from the beginning, so he told me to call him after I had researched more information at 704-325-9110....obviously the same number many of you were given. My system is actually a Mac OSX, so I had good reason to be skeptical. The creative, greedy mind is easily corrupted, taking advantage of those they can prey upon.

Typical of the microsoft scam..

They have no way of knowing whats going on with your computer and No legitimate company cold calls like this.  The scam usually entails them taking you to your event viewer which is a internal monitor that logs events on your computer.. Oh sure, you will see the error's logged, but its all a scam to get you to allow them access to your computer. The event viewer is only doing its job and its there for a real tech to look through should you actually have a problem. Then they want remote access! They usually turn your anti virus program off  and give you a big spiel, then inform you they want a small fee to fix it.. several hundred dollars of course! Meanwhile, they have access to all your computer and could be gleaning personal info, downloading stuff to your computer to turn it into a zombie computer to spam folks..

The only persons who should be touching your computer is you, your manufacturer, Real Windows support that you have called and/or maybe a real live tech you see face to face!

this guy called all times of the night, but it said "out of area" with no phone number so I could not block.  Tonight I answered and tried to get him to take me off his call list.  He would not.  Finally I hung up, he called *right back*.  I then asked him for his number and I would call back and do what he said as long as he would give me his number.  he did and this was the number, so I just added it to my block list.  Last time they called at 3am!  It's only 9pm here now and when I told him it was 3 am and he did not know that I knew something was funky!  He wanted me to type in "event vwr" on my windows machine

Yep, got that same call today.  Since I was suspicious, I asked the name of the company, the name of the employee, ID number and return phone number.  I as given Microsoft Technical Department for the name, Nick Johnson as the employee, ID number PC8605 and phone number 704-325-9110.  Told him I would call back later - looked it up and BAM, there it is....a scam.  Common sense should tell you that unless Microsoft is pinging your computer (and gosh let's hope not) that there is no way for them to detect a virus on your computer.  DO NOT GIVE THEM ACCESS!!!!

Its a scam and they only want to gain access to your computer for who knows what! Microsoft nor any company can tell whats going on with your computer!  The only people who should even touch your computer is you or your tech whom see face to face. Though I will say exceptions to this are when you call for support to your computer manufacturer or Windows support itself!

And there's also some bad links cropping up on google and such for microsoft/computer support. Make sure you actually go to the real Microsoft pages and call the real numbers for your support and manufacturers..

Please do file reports with the FBI, your state attorney general and Department Of Justice,FTC & FCC..
