If you look up Universal Circulation Marketing they have a bbb rating of A+. I work for them now and they actually told you the truth
Me thinks you protest too much. If this is a legit company, they are doing a really lousy job or you wouldn't have so many people posting on this blog telling them they are trying to get information from you that they should have if they are so legit!!!!
O you owe somebody that's why they calling you. So you need to think back.
Sounds like you are a angry blogger who doesn't do research and can barely read!
You guys kill me I hope everyone is reading this before you go and blog please do your research google the company check with the BBB google the phone number ride past the address before you go and bash a company that you know nothing about. It is a company that gets paid for leads that works for less and all they are doing is either trying to upsell you on a current subscription or get you dead beats to pay your past due balance.
It is not a scam it is a third party company that works different newspaper companies for less money. ITS SALES! geez
who do you know that wrks there?
Hi everyone I just wanted to let you all know that I have literally wrked for this company within the last 6 mos although no longer employed there. but it is not a scam they wrk on behalf of your local newspaper to give you discounted rates to either renew or re-subscribe to the paper. the company policy is to not call no more than 3 times a day. It may sound fishy but asking for a card number is the only way for them to set up the discount but it is not a SCAM. The position is commission based so thats how the reps make their money. But all the companys info is verifiable on their UniversalCirculationMarketing.com
Receiving multiple calls per day from 704-527-8736. Never leave message.
This is a real company I leave 3 blocks from the business they are contracted out by tons of newspapers all over they even do California and Texas and so on. As well I know someone that works there and really thy are calling because either you have a balance or they are seeing if you want to renew your subscription and really people if you just trying to get out of paying your balance just say that instead of talking about a company they are doing the same thing that your credit card company would do if you didn't pay your bill.
after this guy calling numerous times I got this guy on the phone - from the paper of course. FULL OF IT! I have the on reject list on my phone but they need to be stopped and I told him as much. supposidly he said they are not allowed to leave message - I bet if they were legit they'd leave a message!

this damn number calls, hangs up and then is busy
dont trust em
these people called my cell phone today, twice within 5 mins. I never answered the call. Of course they left no message and now as I type I can hear my house phone ringing.. wonder who that is...
Same thing here. For the past two days they keep calling and I don't answer. They NEVER leave a message (which I find quite rude). You would think that if it were something important or something that they wanted taken care of that they'd leave a message....Nope. They just keep calling me over and over. They actually called me twice today within a 4 minute timespan. I'm glad I researched this. I'll be calling the REAL newspaper company today...and making a suggestion that they do business with a company that's a bit more professional.
SHOULD I GO WORK THEM IVE BEEN OFFERED A POSTION
I used to work for them in Califormia just before they relocated to NC. They are just calling to get you to renew your newspaper or convert you to automatic payments. You get a lower rate and the past due balance wiped clean. They have limited information because it is all that the newspaper will give them. The newspaper can't give them you credit card information!
SAME THING HERE. THEY SAID THAT I NEEDED TO RENEW MY SUBSCRIPTION FOR THE VA PILOT AND RAMBLED OFF THE LAST FOUR NUMBERS OF A CREDIT CARD AND ASKED IF THIS WAS CORRECT AND I SAID NO. SHE THEN ASKED IF SHE COULD HAVE THE CORRECT CC ## AND I SAID NO BECAUSE WE HAD RECENTLY MOVED AND NO LONGER LIVE IN VA BEACH. SHE JUST HUNG UP. I AGREE THAT THIS IS A SCAM!!!! SO PLEASE BEWARE!!!!!!
Four calls today and counting - they never leave a message. Call actually from 704-527-8959.
I have been receiving these calls for several weeks now. It has something to do with newspaper renewal. I do not want them calling but they continue to do so.
I have been receiving calls from this 704 area code since the end of May. Listed are the numbers I've received calls from but they do not leave a message and will not pick up when I return their call. Do not EVER give out personal information, no matter who they say they are. No reputable business will ask for personal data. They will already have your information. If they claim your credit card has expired tell them you will look the number up on your bill and contact them directly. Numbers to avoid:
called my cell phone today but hangs up when I answer
This # keeps calling me several times a day. When I call back, it rings for a couple of minutes and then goes to a fast busy.
This number has called about 8 times in past 2 weeks. They never leave a message, I suggest nobody call back a number if they don't leave a message. Any legitimate business would leave a message, also don't give them any of your information, don't even confirm what your first or last name is. This could be a phishing scam where basically they are trying to trick you into giving your information, maybe so they can access your bank account or credit cards.
I worked at UCM a while back. They are supposed to be legitimate, but some personnel there leave a lot to be desired. The sales reps use scripts to provide an answer for popular rebuttals the caller might use (i.e. can't afford, don't have the time, I use the internet, poor service, etc.). If you just tell them you are not interested or that you are part of the national do not call registry (make sure you say "national do not call registry"), they are, by law, required to take you off their calling list or risk fines. So just hang up. If they call you back, report them to the BBB. The only way you can give a telemarketer power is to hesitate or talk to them. Don't argue, hang up. No rebuttal for that.
Just received a call from "Universal Circu"(s). I let my answering machine take the call. No message left on answering machine.
I have researched this company and they are legitimate. After 3 calls, I called back the number on my caller ID. A supervisor named Mark answered. He said that they only do ?courtesy calls? for customers of the newspaper and do not call random people. By "customers", he said people that are getting the newspaper or people whose newspaper stopped for nonpayment. I gave him a piece of my mind. He was clear that I was VERY upset for getting called 3 times with no messages!
Mark said they don't leave messages because most of the people they call owe money for their subscriptions and they can't risk the wrong person hearing a message about someone else in the household owing money. I understand that as it could be very embarrassing. I learned that they called me because my newspaper never sent me a bill and I was almost 2 months behind! I would have paid for it if I got a bill!
They only take credit card payments and I told Mark that I would NEVER give that information over the phone. He told me my name, address, when I started the paper and he knew I only received the paper Fri, Sat and Sun. He had a little more of my info that I can?t recall at the moment. I was not going to give him a credit card because my delivery boy could be calling for all I knew. I?ve been a victim of identity theft and I WILL NOT be a victim again! 2 years of fixing it and my credit is still not fully corrected. Mark asked me to call my newspaper and ask about them or go to their website. It?s www.newspapersinc.com. I called the number on the site. I was very curious because it was a California number and the calls were coming from North Carolina! Charlie, apparently the VP, answered. He said they have many offices and transferred me back to Mark. I am very skeptical about phone solicitation, as many of you know from my posts, but this company did a fine job.
Circu Universal is now using 704 523 5908. I was not here and they did not leave message
I just called them back, the lady answered "universal circulation".
I can't find much info on that company by googling it.. It's possible it is a legit company, contracted by your local newspaper, but like someone else said, I'd just call your local newspaper to verify this before giving them any money or any info.
I know I owe like 6 bucks for my newspaper, but I couldn't find a way to pay it on their web site, so this might be why they're calling me. Either way I'm not answering.
