Not fraud - they call you to tell you someone has your digits. They cancelled my card and reissued a card and did not ask for any personal information. They also took the bogus charges off my account. Answer the call they are trying to help you.

Same here, someone got my card numbers and were buying stuff. Wells Fargo suspected fraud and contacted me to ask if I still have my card. They suspended my card and re-issued a new one. They also took the fraud charges off my account. It is a legit call and I am glad I answered.

Got a call from this number and answered. They said it was Wells Fargo about a purchase and whether it was me. Sounded questionable based on the other posts here. I just ended the call politely and called Wells Fargo myself. The call was legit. They were worried about fraud and trying to protect my card.

How about I don't pick up the phone for every scammer calling me?  I don't do business with Wachovia...no reason for them to call me.

Wells Fargo calling me to confirm suspicious activity (someone using a duplicate of my card to buy gas in NY) and that they would discontinue the current card number I have and mail me a new one. But it would have the same PIN? They didn't ask for any information and I didn't provide any, but they knew about a few transactions I've made. Really sketchy. I looked up Charlotte Wells Fargo branches - none of them have the number from which I was called. I called the number back and got an automated voice saying it represented Wells Fargo and if I wanted to report misdirected faxes for investigation. Overall, a very suspicious thing.

This is a legit call from Wells Fargo.For me it was from their fraud department but it sounds like this is just a general outgoing line for any of their departments.

Got a call today.  It is WF Financial about my 401k.

This is a legit Wells Fargo number (Fraud alert dept) Called because I had several charges on my Debit card that I did not make. I was actually on the website at the time and verified the transactions she referred to. Cancelled the card, and ordered a new one to be sent.

This is absolutely real. It's Wells Fargo Fraud prevention.

I got a call this morning and they asked me if I made 3 purchases, 2 online and one in store. Had the dollar amounts and the stores. And when I made a purchase on walmart.com, they notified me that visa and walmart would process this through a protection.  Got the call 20 minutes after the Walmart purchase so it is legit. Stop fear mongoring. If you don't believe them, then just don't answer or hang up but then call WF directly and they will eventually transfer you to the fraud department anyway.

Rec'd a call on 01/18/2012 from this number: (704) 590-6161, caller I.D. listed "Wells Fargo Bank". No msg. left. Like another report below, I do have a 401(k) retirement plan with my job through Wells Fargo, so I am guessing it was a "customer service call" (i.e., sales call) about my 401(k) account.

we have a experience like you ,guys dont give any  personal information to this person,we check online and somebody did many transaction in different places ,this is a fraud ,call the bank if you have any question or something ,this is scam they are looking for your information to make transatction to your account.

Someone called me and said they were Wells Fargo bank.  They said an unauthorized charge was made on my card.  When they asked for passwd and security code, I knew it was a fraud.  They even charged amost $100. from a gas station I never use.  Hang up when yuo get this number. It is fraud.  I don't know why people keep saying its Wachovia.

This is legit...I looked up the number online because I was unsure and found this blog among others. The person who left the message stated they were from Wells Fargo and to call back at 800-869-3557 or call the number on the back of my card. I went online to see my account first to see if there was any unusual activity and then called Wells Fargo from the number on THEIR website. The rep told me there was an 'A' next to my debit account and went over my card activity spread out across the last couple weeks. They cancelled my card and are issuing my a new one. This is not a fraudulent number, but I suggest you go to your financial institutions website first, check your account and then call from the number listed on their website.

DO NOT click on any links post by anyone on these blogs, investigate yourself and contact your bank through their website or from the number on the back of your card immediately.

Confirming Casey's reply - the number IS a legitimate Wells Fargo telephone number.  Was called about fraudulent activity on debit card.

I went to this site because I was receiving an phone number that I did not recognize which was 704-590-6161.  So they did leave a message and it was from Wells Fargo just like you said.  The only thing was I did contact Wells Fargo earlier in the day regarding some investments and on the voicemail they were actually answering my questions.  So the phone number is in fact from Wells Fargo and I can confirm that, I just don't know why they called you like they did.  I hope this helps future people who read this reply.
