I replied back with the first name of a co-worker I know from north carolina.
"Do you use Y.ahoo IM? cuz msg me my username is textiegirlie1"
I'm sure it's all automated...

Just received a text, "Hey (my name)" I responded with, "Who is this?" I get a text back saying, "Do you use yahoo messenger?!?? cuz msg me my id is textieflirty44" I respond with, "Who are you? How did you get my name and number?" I get a text back, "Omg !! mi Phone's bout to die !!. I send back, "Bye."
It's been about 10 minutes and I have not received a text back, thank goodness! Kinda creeped me out at first. I wasn't sure if it was a family member trying to mess with me or what. Now that I've looked up the number and seen this, I know it isn't.

got a message saying my last name. i recognized it as a north carolina phone number...I dont know anyone in North Carolina.

Other posters say they have had success in forwarding these illegal texts to 7726. They are picked up by your cell phone carrier who will ask you to send them the phone number so they can investigate and have spam filters installed to block the texts. The following article tells you everything you need to know:
Security company Cloudmark created a spam messaging reporting service that nation?s major wireless carriers agreed earlier this year to start using. Now, customers of AT&T Mobility, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, Sprint and others can forward their text spam message to 7726. The mobile phone carrier will ask customers for the phone number that?s linked to the spam message so they and Cloudmark can start investigating.

Spam -- Texted me hi, using my name and when I texted back asking who they were, they replied, "Lol if you want to know who this is you got to add me on yahoo messenger, my id is txtflirter17"
