Does anyone know if you block it they use another number?
Same "charity" robo-call claiming to be FOP, but the number is spoofed to look as though it is coming from within the local calling area. Call back gets you a generic message that you have been called by one of the Nation's finest children's or health charity or military or public safety charity information services. Basically they telemarket as anything most likely to get your dollar.
No name shows on the caller ID, no name is given on the robo-call and no name info is present on the call back recording - red flag of the 90% goes to the telemarketer and 10% goes to something else, maybe the charity if you're lucky - group.
Most of these type calls are from the "professional fundraiser" category and they just siphon off money that could have gone to a worth while cause, but now never will.
This is the classic example of a "Zombie Charity".
Save your money and give it to a real organization and skip the professional telemarketer. It will help to stop these fake calls and it will give the real charity a LOT more money to work with - and you will know for certain that your entire donation went to a local, worth while cause that you KNOW will make a much better use of YOUR money than some nitwit, sleaze ball, greasy, slicked back hair, goonie of a tele-fraudster ever could.
Hang up call.
Telemarketing company asking for donations for the state police... BTW, the police have said this was a scam & not to send anything to these people.
Just a thought. Maybe collecting as much info as they can get out of you. Data bases are everywhere, and with enough info someone can use your identity for their own purposes. I had another strange call a week ago asking for me by my first name and company name. He hung up also. I thought that one was someone who decided not to order anything, but the 2 calls together, they were both identifying me as being connected with this phone number and address. I've already had 2 credit cards used to purchase items, both cards I used online. I did get reimbursed by my bank. These thieves are getting more sophisticated. Be careful.
Someone just called me from this number, asked for me by my first name. I said, yes, this is she. They waited a few seconds and hung up. weird. The voice sounded real, but somehow too perfect sounding. can't explain that.
It was so weird I think it wasa robot, it sounded real but I could tell something was up. I can smell a scam from a mile away
This is Democratic Party / abortion activist fundraising scam.
This call came early this am. The guy asked for my husband who wasn't home..He immediately began talking to me,saying he was with the Fraternal Order of Police ,who helped families of fallen officers. He wanted a commitment of $35 at first ,then lowered it to $25. Another guy came on the line to get information to send information. Wanted a reply as soon as possible using my first name only. I don't usually get tricked into answering these calls but was sidetracked by its being a NCcall on the ID..So don't answer when this number comes up What do you suggest I do ?
This is an extremely slick robo call. A male voice pretending to be the Fraternal Order of Police and it sounds as if it is actually a male speaking to you, but it is a computerized pre-recorded voice with a computer program picking and choosing it's "responses" based on words that you might use in responding. When I said, "This is a robo call, isn't it?" it went on for a while, then stopped with a blank space pause, then the recording said, "Do I sound that bad?" and there was "sounds" of other voices faintly in the background to make you think it was a real person at a call center. Very clever and dangerous system. Watch out for these.
