Yes.. please donate directly to the organization.  You will indeed, cut out the middle man.  Unfortunately it is illegal for firefighters to get on the phone and ask for donations to help support the many 'non-tax funded' programs that our brave firefighters are giving their free time to support.  That is the only reason that the firefighters hire a fundraising company to call on their behalf.  Unfortunately, it has proven impossible in the past, for the firefighters to seek out volenteers to spread the word throughout the community and the laws that follow.  Which is why, they ask us to call on all the brave folks here in our community and ask for their support in these life saving programs.

In the end, the ends justify the means...

Non-profit Organization
Today in Feb. 6th, 2012. I received this call at 1:44 pm. He stated that he was with the North Carolina Fire Fighters Association. Like Girl Scouts have cookies, they are having a concert @ the Bojangles Coliseum on April 21st, 2012. I asked who would be playing. He then asked me If I've ever heard of the Temptations?
I played along with this fellow, while I googled Temptation Concerts-None on North Carolina, never mind the Bojangles Coliseum..SCAM SCAM SCAM. SCAM SCAM SCAM
I REPORTED THIS NUMBER TO THE FTC-FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION.

GIVING A BAD REP TO FIRE FIGHTER ASSOCIATIONS ALL OVER NC. PLUS THE POOR TEMPTATIONS WILL GET BAD PUBLICITY. BOJANGLES WILL END UP WITH PEOPLE GOING TO A NONE EXISTANT CONCERT!

These callers need to be stopped. They are scam artists. I know because I went to an interview with them about this time last year. At that time they were working out of an office in Gastonia near Broad Street on Franklin Blvd. They have since moved and I do not know where the new location is. They didn't hire me because I questioned how they could pay so much in commissions and where all these extra concert tickets were coming from. Our home number is not only unlisted, but is also on the Do Not Call national registry. I have asked them time after time to not call this number again, but the harassment continues. They will only speak to me but hang up on my husband, who used to be a fireman. I am not certain to whom I can report these calls, but any information would be appreciated. They start calling at 8 am and call until after 9 pm, even on weekends. Often times we get 5 r 6 calls from them per day. It seems to get worse the ore I tell them to stop harassing me. This has been going on since March or April. I think that is certainly harassment. I wish someone could shut these con artists down!

Received a phone call from this number today.  It looked familiar and when I searched this number online, I remembered why it was familiar.  This has to be a scam. The person who claims to represent this company keeps saying that all of the scams are not their company. However, this person cannot say anything other than the same incorrectly spelled sentences ,that don't really say anything.

I've been getting these calls from this number numerous times, mostly at night. Always a "hang-up" when answer.  I'm supposed to be on the "do not call list" but doesn't seem to working as I'm still getting calls from "families of slain police officers", Fireman's assoc., etc.  If I'm going to contribute to any charity, I do it directly to organization in my town/county or I know and am familiar with agency I'm going to send any kind of donation too!

Since Rob seems to know so much about this why doesn't he give us more information.  He keeps saying this isn't "us".  Well who are you talking about?  Who is "us"?  Are you referring to NCFFA that keeps calling everyone?  And if you are the NCFFA, you ought to be as pissed as we are especially if someone else is using you organzations name.

this man is still calling from 704-874-0178.  This time he said he was from the NCFFA.  I told  him I am on the do not call list and he is messing with the wrong person's wife!  I told him I have reported them to the FTC, and he did not even know what that meant.  I told him I know his company was a scam and he said he didn't know what I was talking about.  So, I said to him...."Why don't you just Google the phone number you are calling me from and see that everyone knows what you are up to"!  I advised him taht he BETTER NOT ever call my phone again or he will be dealing with my husband and the outcome will not be a good one!  He hung up after that!

This group represents the Gastonia City Fire Fighters Union. They use them for fundraisers. The Gehl group wants you to think that you are helping the Volunteer Firefighters of Gaston County but this is NOT the case.
I have also received calls and hangups or nobody is on the line.

DO NOT fall for their trickery. Ask them straight out if they are the Gastonia City Fire Department Union fundraisers or representing Gaston County. Gaston County Volunteer Firefighters Association does NOT use this group.

Telemarketer
NCFFA calls anytime of the day and when you answer, they hang up. If you have on your answering machine, they will not leave a message. I've called the number (704-874-0178) displayed on my Caller ID to see who NCFFA are, but their answering machine is always on (which tells me the calls are computer-generated). Are they telemarketers? Just for the record, they are annoying and should be put on the Do Not Call Registry. In February and March, I averaged getting one call a day for a week. Is anyone else getting these bothersome phone calls?

States Warn Against Dubious Charities
Attorneys General warn citizens about professional solicitors
December 9, 2009

Consumers have to walk something of a tightrope this time of year. Holidays are always an expensive time, yet many want to support charities and worthwhile causes. But the last thing you want to do is have your contribution line the pockets of the solicitor.
In Oregon, Attorney General John Kroger unveiled a list of Oregon's 20 Worst Charities and offered tips to consumers on how to donate wisely.
"In the middle of a recession, it is more important than ever that generous Oregonians make charitable contributions to organizations that help veterans and others who are in need," Kroger said. "It is critical, however, that people donate wisely. Although many charities do great work, some are little more than scams with good-sounding names but that do little to actually help the people they claim to support."
State law requires charities to file periodic financial reports with the Oregon Department of Justice disclosing how much money the organization raised and how the funds were spent. The Department's Charitable Activities Section has identified 20 organizations (see attached) that spent more than 75 percent of the donations they collected on administrative costs and professional fundraising.
While guidelines issued by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) suggest that charitable organizations should spend at least 65 percent of their funds on charitable programs, every charity on the Department of Justice's list devoted less than 25 percent of their expenditures on charitable program activities.
One organization near the top of the list, Shiloh International Ministries, solicits donations to provide medical necessities and other support to needy children, veterans, and homeless persons. According to the most recent financial filings, the California-based nonprofit spent an average of $1,023,215 per year, 96.35 percent of which went to management and fundraising.
Kentucky concerns
Unscrupulous charity solicitations are not just confined to one area of the country. With double-digit unemployment rates in Kentucky, for example, more Kentucky families are in need of a helping hand this holiday season.
Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway says people who give to a charity should give wisely. Unfortunately, he says, there are unscrupulous or even fraudulent charities that prey on the generosity of Kentuckians.
"Every dollar donated to a reputable charity can make a difference in the life of someone who may be struggling to put food on the table or clothe a child," Conway said. "Irresponsible or fraudulent charities not only take advantage of the kindness of hard-working Kentuckians, they deprive those who need our help. Before you decide whether a charity deserves your donation, gather as much information as possible to make sure the charity is not a scam and that your donation reaches someone in need."
Both Kroger and Conway offer these tips for wise holiday giving:
? Donate to charities you know and trust.
? Be cautious of sound-alike charities and solicitors unable to answer questions.
? Always ask what percentage of your dollar goes to the cause.
? Don't be pressured into making a donation.
? Ask if the charity or solicitor is registered with the Office of the Attorney General.
