Man called and left message using my maiden name. Man said This is a Civil Investigation Unit. We aree contacting you in regards to a complaint being filed against you, pursuant the claim and affidavit number 50858-2578 We are cresonding to an accord action and you must appear. There is a contact number on file which you must call (704) 879-2693. You need to forward this information to your attorney."

I called the number and spoke with a man who said I owed $2300 on a credit card in my (maiden name). I asked who it was thrugh and he said he did not know. He asked for my address. I laughed at him and said someone is sueing me, you are representing them and you don't even know who I had a credit card through? He replied he was sending out a the papers and the period for the company contacting me to try to collect was over, and I would be served by an officer of the law. I told him good, would I be served by an officer from Charlotte or from Dallas? He said he did not know. I asked again who the Credit Card was thrugh and he said JP Morgan Chase Bank. I laughed at him and said it was a scam, I dont owe anyone anything, and I know this because my credit report is clean and I have a high score and I have never had an account through that bank. I check it often and no one has a debt collection for me. He said good luck, and hung up."

Havent heard fronm them since, however I DID gt a call from another Collection company who claimed I owed them and knew the last four digits of my social. So I presume someon knows my information and has sold it.

This company has a big warning on it on the BBB website that says they are phishing for financial information from consumers. Be warned. http://www.bbb.org/pittsburgh/business-review ... rgh-pa-71015960

Have been on hold with this same number that has call everyone else 704-879-2693 and there is still a recording saying "please hold your call will be answered in the order it ws recieved. please continue to hold. This really sounds like a scam and if it was a court ordered restraining order it would be of public knowledge and you would be able to look it up, all you need is a name and case number for those.
I declare fail and say send to P.I.

I have been getting calls for about a year that give me 48 hours to respond. I have contacted my BK attorney and he said to ignore them. These people keep selling the info to another company if they do not succeed. I have also called the "so-called" debtor and there is no debt. In addition, I am a student and they claim I took a payday loan out in 2010 when I was a student. I never took out a payday loan. I believe the statute of limitations runs out in a few months, so the calls should stop then.

I say we file a Class Action Suit and a restraining order against them. My attorney is willing to file a Class Action. However, he said we need their physical address, which they always fail to give me.
Thoughts about a class action?

Same message with an affidavit number.   Called and waited 20 minutes for someone to answer, then a guy did and put me on hold to look up my file.  Said I had not paid a visa card from a bank I had never heard of.  He was able to tell me my date of birth, address, and last 4 digits of my social, which was intimidating.   I said I would need to see something in writing and he replied that I had received several letters in the mail.   An I said well, I am going to need to see something official to which he said that I would in the form of a subpoena from the sheriff's department in 48 to 72 hours.  Sounds like it was a scam, but I was pretty nervous someone had stolen my identity.

I just received a call with a recorded message stating I have a restraining order against me and to contact my attorney.  I pressed 1 to connect to them. Was on hold for a short time and gave them the case number the recording gave me.  They asked if I was Vicky Williams.  I said no.  They said I was listed as a contact for Vicky Williams and they said my name Lisa........which was correct.  I told them I have had this phone number for 11 years and that I do not know a Vicky Williams.  She said they would take me off the call list.  She had a short, rude tone.  I bet I get a call in the future saying I have a restraining order against me or that I owe money.  They are messing with the wrong person as I do not have any reason tom have a restraning order against me and I have no bad or outstanding debts. The number showed as coming from NC.

I got the same call message as Pat on 08/26/13, but I stayed on the line.  When a woman came on the line, I tried to get more information on United Asset Services.  Except to say she was from "litigation" (lol, gotta love the bs they come up with), the woman was not forthcoming and when it appeared that I was not going to cooperate, she hung up.

I called back and spoke with a  man this time giving him my phone number so that he could find me.  Of course, this time he came up with a bogus name that he was trying to contact.  I know this because I have had this cell phone number for at least 15 years.  He refused to give me the company's address and simply stated that since I was not the person he was trying to contact, he would take me off their call list.  If this were a legitimate company, he would have had no problem giving me more information on the company.

Folks, do not give them any personal information, but do go on the offensive.  Put them in a corner and see how open they will be.  Remember, they called you.  My guess is that they will hang up because this is a S.C.A.M.

I got this same call; after so many unsuccessful attempts to get me to answer my phone they finally left me a voicemail that included the same empty threats as the rest of you and they gave me 24-48 hours to respond....well, it's been well over 48 hours. I've got a full agenda everyday and I can't sweat the stupidity and mischievousness of people that need to get real jobs and use that swindlers energy they are exerting by getting a real honest job and put those pin point brain cells to some actual good use. I'll bet if these creeps had as much as much to do from day to day as I currently have they wouldn't have time to sit around and think of scams.

Although, I actually do have a reason to be concerned because my oldest brother's ex stole mine and my mother's insurance cards and relocated to Florida. Fortunately I caught on to what she had done just a
couple of days after she had left. We both called a local law enforcement agency and had reports made. We then called the Social Security Administration, The Federal Trade Commission, and finally I got in touch with one of the credit bureaus and placed a fraud alert in my credit file. One credit bureau will contact the other two. I have since renewed that alert because my oldest brother somehow claimed that I had gotten an outstanding bill with AT&T at his previous address for over $500, that's impossible because I didn't know his address and besides that I have my own address and would never trust any of my mail to go to his house, not even my junk mail. It's also impossible because I am a current customer of AT&T and my account is in very good standing.

I've been watching my credit history and so far nothing negative has turned up.

These people have been using many different names/numbers and scare tactics to try to get money out of me for YEARS!  At first, they scared me with their talk of legal action and court actions, but once I figured out they were scam artists, I just laugh it off.  They stop calling for a short time, but then eventually find my phone number again and start over.  Always the same basic scam, threatening legal action, give to my lawyer, good luck with your case...blah blah blah ... I've reported and reported, but honestly, I think they just keep moving their VOIP numbers and get away with it.  Hopefully people look these things up on the internet and don't pay them any money!!  They also have called my mother and sister, but I tell them to just hang up on them.

This time it was "Steve Foster - a special investigator" - no company name.

Good luck everyone.

this is obviously some type of con artist scam office as he also said he first was the only one in the office, then he said he couldnt let me speak with anyone.

(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing?

A Collection Agent May Not?

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

Misrepresent Him or Herself

A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

Use Abusive or Threatening Language

A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

Publish a Bad Debt List

Publishing the consumer?s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

Contact By Embarrassing Media

A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector?s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

Contact a Consumer at Work

A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.

Contact a Consumer Represented by an Attorney

A collection agent may not contact a consumer after it learns the consumer is represented by a lawyer.

Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request

If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.

Communicate With Third Parties

A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer?s debts with third parties other than the consumer?s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

Received a call; and also calls on friends phones? Very odd.  I too, ask for identifying information and it is not provided to me.  My concern along with many others is that they have information that is confidential and where they are getting this is interesting.  The one thing that makes me laugh is 'retraining order' ha!  Isn't that something that one places on another to keep them away?  Doesn't make sense.  This is a scam operation.

Recieved a call from them this morning around 10:00 a.m. MST much in the same. Stated they were United Assets Services and I had a pending legal action. First as a civial investigation then stated a restraining order or pending civil action. I tried to call back and was on hold for exactly a quarter of an hour before hanging up. Waited about an hour called back again and was on hold 10 min before I just decided to hang up.
