Alright so i've had them call me a few times before and every time it was the same person, think his name was Steven Baker. I felt bad for the guy trying to earn his paycheck so i decided to listen to him. He did sound very smooth and i noticed his responses to my questions were very limited so i asked for a manager, who then told me the calls are recorded...there's an actual person talking but the script you hear is all pre-recorded to make sure every call the same in everyway without the person actually working there influencing it (accents and stuff). Now this does make sense on their behalf.
Asked them why they needed me to confirm my name and address if they already had it and they told me its a requirement from RBC, they ask you 5 questions in total to make sure that you actually understand and want the product. If you feel unsure, you can ask them to tell you the info at which point the actual person behind the call will come live telling you the call was transferred to them (you know, to make Steven Baker seem real) and read out your name and address. For credit alert they also need your DOB which they dont have since RBC wont give it out. After that they'll ask you to confirm if you agree to enroll, and the telemarketer cant continue unless you say Yes, and after that they will ask your authorization for the company who actually controls the service (yes its third party with partnership with RBC) to work on your behalf and to pull your credit report for you which they send to you later. They cant even enroll you if you changed your address. They said it takes a month or over for RBC to send address changes to the callcenter, in which case the person behind the call will come live again and tell you they cant proceed with you enrollment.
All this seems too much work for a scam and besides, they never ask you for any financial information so you can stop freaking out and just say no if you're not interested.
Now i was also told by a friend of mine who worked at a similar place that the agents themselves have no control whatsoever on who gets called. They disposition the call according to the call; they would put you on DNC and the dialer might still dial your number. They just sit there and take the calls when someone picks up so you can stop yelling at the poor people if you've been called a lot. Call RBC Credit number thats on your RBC Credit card to complain about it.

Again, This is not a scam
Annoying? hell yes but not a scam

Ignore/Block these calls.
They offer Fraud protection from an outside source but say theyre with RBC.
If you're interested in Fraud protection and identity theft protection deal with RBC directly and they'll get you sorted out, don't even answer the phone for these jokers.

I just got off the line with the idiots at RBC.  I can't believe those a-holes gets a low-life Famtel company to try to sell me crap that I never asked for.  Famtel called me from 10 different numbers, just about every province.  Thats what type of scum bags they are. 514-225-1398, 705-797-2494, 514-225-7625, 204-289-0964, 403-456-6015, 519-266-6839, 902-442-7660, 604-282-7534, 519-266-6802, 705-797-2495..Needless to say, I CANCELLED ALL MY ACCOUNTS AND YOU SHOULD TO.  If these a-holes think bothering people this way is acceptable, just goes to show you RBC has no respect for their customers..

Received a call - reputedly from RBC.  New twist to these calls - this one was offering to send a free copy of our credit reports (RCR - Equifax or Transamerica). To get the report on it's way we would have to give enough information over the 'phone - whoever these folks are they are getting quite stupid!!  We are going to give all our personal info and card data to an unsolicited caller from an unknown entity - right!!  We deal with RBC and other banks - RBC are a professional bunch - would never stoop this low!  As was the case with other posts I have seen, it took a little skill - short of insulting them - to get them off the line.  This number goes on the "no call" list tonight!!

The first thing they asked me was to confirm the correct spelling of my name. If they were legitimately selling products for RBC they would have that already, surely. Calling RBC now to report it.

Got call from this number did not answer when clld bck received an automated message:  company is Samtel Solutions, "providing marketing solutions to it's customers".  If you call, there's a message allowing you to request being put on a do not call list.

Be careful sounds like a scam since i found out this same message "company Samtel" comes up with the same company for different phone numbers that have been reported also.

That is NOT the Royal Bank's website address. Looks like you are trying to cause more issues for people who don't know better and click on your questionable link.

Just got a call from 705-797-2495. Smooth talking guy wanted me to give him all of my banking info and in return he would give me a free 30 day trial to protect my information.  No way a bank asks for that..they should already know it. I was laughing really hard as I hung up on him.

You guys are all funny.  if you simply go to the website

www.rbcroyalbank.com/cards/infoprotector

You will clearly see that this IS a call made on behalf of RBC.  If you call your branch they wont know anything about the service because this is a service made on BEHALF of your CREDIT CARD company.  So VISA/MASTER CARD (who are a third party offering their credit card services to RBC customers if you know anything about business).  If you call the number on the back of your RBC credit card and speak to an agent via your credit card company they can verify the information (thats if you get an agent who isnt a complete moron and knows how to use their internal search engine) and that this is a call made on behalf of the ROYAL BANK.

You guys make me laugh.  I found all this information with just a few simple clicks on the RBC website and a few calls to my credit card company.

I had a call from this number back on FRi MArch 8. Calling on behalf of RBC visa. THey were calling to offer Credit Alert service n behalf f RBC visa. THEY did explain this pn the phone. I called RBC customer service who put me through to Credit Alert who verified that i was contacted and my free report was mailed out to me on March 14th. IMO not a scam. Big companies often out source marketing to firms such as Famtel

Got a call from this number today. They asked for my mother. They presented themselves as RBC and proceded to offer her a 30-day free trial of something and then she would be charged $17/month for each consecutive month. She gave them her name and postal code, but then when they asked for her birthday, she got suspicious. She tried to say goodbye then and the man would not back down! Please get this company out of business, because they are definitely not associated with RBC.

I got this call,  called like 10 times in one week.  I finally answered it and it was a fast talker offering some identity protection service.  I let him finish so I could ask some questions but as soon as he finished he wanted to confirm my name.  So I gave him a fake name and he took it because he has no information on me.  I also gave him a fake birth day and this clown completed the package.

I promptly contacted RBC furiously because I do not recall ever authoring them to give my information to third parties.  RBC fraud department verified that they are not affiliated with famtel.  And my number has been on the do not call list in Canada for three years.

However I think Rbc is being dishonest because I think the RBC insurance side is the one hiring out these companies.  I used to get calls from TRG on behalf of td bank as well.

I called Rbc insurance and they played dumb but I refused to get off the line until I spoke to a supervisor.  I ended up closing my account with RBC.

This is a scam and it was confirmed by the security arm of the RBC; we called and discussed the issue. In order to be completely confident, RBC recommended that we cancel our credit card number.  We did so. This is an annoyance but luckily we do not have pre-authorized payments on our card.  It isn't worth the hassle.  If you get these calls?  Tell them you don't do business over the phone and if they have some terrific offer - do it by mail.  If they have your number, they have your address. If they ask?  Hang up, they've wasted enough of your valuable time.
