§ 807.  False or misleading representations  [15 USC 1692e]

A debt collector may not use any false, deceptive, or misleading representation or means in connection with the collection of any debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section:

(1) The false representation or implication that the debt collector is vouched for, bonded by, or affiliated with the United States or any State, including the use of any badge, uniform, or facsimile thereof.

(2) The false representation of --

(A) the character, amount, or legal status of any debt; or

(B) any services rendered or compensation which may be lawfully received by any debt collector for the collection of a debt.

(3) The false representation or implication that any individual is an attorney or that any communication is from an attorney.

(4) The representation or implication that nonpayment of any debt will result in the arrest or imprisonment of any person or the seizure, garnishment, attachment, or sale of any property or wages of any person unless such action is lawful and the debt collector or creditor intends to take such action.

(5) The threat to take any action that cannot legally be taken or that is not intended to be taken.

(6) The false representation or implication that a sale, referral, or other transfer of any interest in a debt shall cause the consumer to --

(A) lose any claim or defense to payment of the debt; or

(B) become subject to any practice prohibited by this title.

(7) The false representation or implication that the consumer committed any crime or other conduct in order to disgrace the consumer.

(8) Communicating or threatening to communicate to any person credit information which is known or which should be known to be false, including the failure to communicate that a disputed debt is disputed.

(9) The use or distribution of any written communication which simulates or is falsely represented to be a document authorized, issued, or approved by any court, official, or agency of the United States or any State, or which creates a false impression as to its source, authorization, or approval.

(10) The use of any false representation or deceptive means to collect or attempt to collect any debt or to obtain information concerning a consumer.

(11) The failure to disclose in the initial written communication with the consumer and, in addition, if the initial communication with the consumer is oral, in that initial oral communication, that the debt collector is attempting to collect a debt and that any information obtained will be used for that purpose, and the failure to disclose in subsequent communications that the communication is from a debt collector, except that this paragraph shall not apply to a formal pleading made in connection with a legal action.

(12) The false representation or implication that accounts have been turned over to innocent purchasers for value.

(13) The false representation or implication that documents are legal process.

(14) The use of any business, company, or organization name other than the true name of the debt collector's business, company, or organization.

(15) The false representation or implication that documents are not legal process forms or do not require action by the consumer.

(16) The false representation or implication that a debt collector operates or is employed by a consumer reporting agency as defined by section 603(f) of this Act.

This is the same thing they have been doing to me for the past two years.  I repeatedly asked them for an original itemized bill for the medical service and all I have ever gotten is a copy of charges someone typed up but no other identifying features.  I am now attempting to block them from my number.  By this time they have spent more than they claim I owe just for paperwork, telephone calls, postage and man hours.  Unless they can prove to me exactly what these charges are for, I will not pay them.  I have repeatedly told them this but to no avail.

Called yesterday.  When I returned all they would say was it was a private company.  I asked repeatedly for the name of the "private company", with no luck.  I will report them if it continues.  I am on the Federal Do Not Call list, and I am constantly getting solicitation calls.

I received this call today and it says hang up if I was not the person. I do not understand how they got my number!

They called regarding a bill for services from June 2009 - over 2 years ago - a whole $18.01.  I don't let my bills go unpaid.  I told them I had never received a bill from anyone regarding these services, and that I must receive an itemized bill and the explanation of benefits that my insurance company provided them with to prove that I actually owe the debt they are claiming.

It has cost the hospital well over $18.01 to file this debt with a collection agency, spend the money on the postage for all the notices they claim to have spent, and pay for the wages for the person(s) that are handling this piddly little amount.  Not that I mind paying bills that I owe, but this is ridiculous.

Just got a call on my cell from automated voice asking for some garbled nonsense. The voice said if I was not whatever the name it said, I was to hang up. I did.

I just had a similar experience as the others listed. If you feel that this is a fraudulent company, report it to Athens PD. (706) 613 - 3330. This is their non-emergency line. The more frequent the reports, the more likely it will be to get attention.

I have been getting calls from this number for years.  They told me I owe a bill for my son.  When I started asking questions about it (because I have great insurance) they got huffy.  I told them I would have to see the original bill because they didn't have his correct birthday or SSN.  They hung up on me.  I refuse to give them any money at all.  They said i owed over $400 dollars, my deductable isn't even $400!! Be very careful! I mean it has been at least 3 years of calls and this "collection" has never shown up on my credit report.  I actually contacted the Hospital and i don't owe anything.

I've been receiving this call 2x a week for months. I never pick up if I don't know the called so they always leave an automated message. The same that everyone says, If you're not so and so pls hang up. Well, my machine isn't a self thinking robot so it just accepts the message. I finally called my phone co and had their number blocked.

Number repeatedly calls. No messages left. As others have said, if & when a call is answered, a recording asks for a specific person & informs you to disconnect if you are not "so&so" & says otherwise "we" (whoever "we" supposedly are) assume "you" (person who picks up phone) are "so&so". There is no way to indicate to them that "so&so" does not reside at this number! Nor do we know "so&so". Some info is rattled off with nothing discernible be gleamed from it so staying on the line does one no more good than hanging up when prompted "if this is not 'so&so). There is no contact info. I would appreciate the calls stopping. We are on the National DO NOT CALL LIST, and have an unlisted number for which we pay an absorbent monthly fee. Calls are too often and irritating.  If it is a medical collection agency as others have indicated, let me say this, our insurance is very good, & our out of pocket expenses affordable, & after the yearly cap is met, paid in full, so there is NO outstanding amounts due any medical facility on our part. Thank you for helping to end annoying phone calls.   Next number I enter will be the one frequently received from the Atlanta Jail Payphone - another repeat calling number - We don't know anyone in "lock-up" or anyone that has done anything to need to make their "1" phone call on such a regular basis! And, NO, I am not kidding...thank you for any help in ending the calls.

They called on my father's number and they got his name and everything so my dad calls me and gave me the number to see what it is since he is busy and doesnt have time fir these people.I called them and JOSHUA pics up the first time and second time some girl answered they wont tell you anything its confidential so they will only tell him or his wife told them he will call them later.Its bu***hit dont give them your info.

THEY NEVER, EVER GIVE UP NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO. I have been receiving their calls and voicemails for over a year now.   If anyone knows of any legal actions being pursued, I will be happy to join.

This number called me this morning, and I am not sure who it is either. I don't have any standing medical bills, so I am not sure what this call, message was about.

I got this call today and in the past but I never press any buttons, I just hang up. Oh it's on my cell phone. They never leave a message. And I'm not waiting to listen to the entire message, I have limited minutes. So I don't know what type of call it is but I guess it's some bill collector.

It said I owed money to them and it knew my name... But I'm 14, so obviously I don't owe anything to a debt collection agency.

This number belongs to Collection Services of Athens, a medical collection agency. They Do NOT give up. They will call you for YEARS.

This number keeps calling my number looking for somebody else there is no answer when you call it back to tell them they are calling the wrong number for this person.

yep. they called my cell at 430pm... same old 'this is a msg for XXXX XXXXXXXXX... if you are not XXXXX XXXXXX pls disregard, etc etc etc etc. they do not ID themselves by name or company name, so i just dlt the msg. and their msg sounds unprofessional, to say the least.

they said that to me too, but i just got another call from them. f'n retards. i wish i could meet whoever it is in person. i would defintely go to jail or prison for a long time

I got a call from these people...the msg was on machine stating that I needed to call them back w/ a reference. Reading this, I havent been to a doctor in a long time. so this is not me.

Somebody called me from this number.  I answered on the 3rd ring, since I wasn't in the room the phone's in.  Well, after saying "hello" 3 times, nobody said anything to me at all.  I don't owe anything to any collection agency either, so figured it's just another scam!

Ok.. These a**holes have been calling my job for several months now looking for someone named Arnuldo soandso.  The call is automated and if you are not Arnuldo then you are supposed to hang up.  I got so sick of it once I pressed the other button just so I could speak to someone and ask them to quit calling and they said that only Arnuldo could make them quit calling.  People are such idiots.  I bet they would not say that s**t to my face.

Wow.  I called the number back today and spoke with a nice lady named Nancy.  She said she would make the calls stop.  I said thank you.  I don't know why but I believe her yo.  Perhaps there is some good left in the collection world.
