The usual scam is he sends you a check that's larger than the agreed price and you are supposed to Western Union the overpayment back to him. Trouble is, the check is fake while the money you WU him is your own real money and you may be prosecuted for passing a bad check.

Thanks for all of your posts. I replied by text message but found this post through Google before I sent any emails. I received the text message in Texas from 675-53. "(darkd) I found your craigslist AD and I want to buy it could you please send me some higher definition pics to carulx@gmail.com . Thanks." The scammer might be using this new email address. I wish there was a way we could shut them down. I'll pass this on to the fraud department at Craigslist.

Yup just got the same message. I was a little suspicious, so I set up a separate gmail account just for this sale. I got a message about 6 hours later saying that I requested a password reset for my craiglist account. This message made no sense because the password reset would have gone to a different e-mail account!

The link that was included in the password reset was a malicous web page. If you click on it, check the address very very closely. It ends in a ".com". Craigslist is a ".org". Tried to loads my machine up with viruses, trojans, etc... Luckily my virus checker caught it before it got too far...

Don't fall for this guy. Is there anybody than can put a stop to this???

Also recieved a text from 675-53 (4hh6)  same message as above. I agree with above comments, we don't have time for this, but obviously these scammers do have tooooo much time on their hands and no conscience. What goes around comes around.

Just got the same test from 10958 - "(4hh6) I found you craiglist AD today and I want to buy it could you please send me some higher definition pics to sevpole@gmail.com . Thanks."

Glad I googled that email before responding and/or sending the pics that were requested.

Im so tired of these scammers on Craigslist.  I got an email only about 3hrs after I posted this same Ad from an Anthony Elvis (a.elvis33@globomail.com) saying "Email me asap if you still have this ad for sell"  I didnt respond because I posted at midnight and got that response at 3AM asking if its still for sale? LOL

I had these same problems with the last vehicle I posted on craiglist, but I never got one of these texts... Probable because that time I spelt out my phone number... This time I actually posted my number normally and got the text msg.

Hope that helps out.

You might want to find out if you unwillingly subscribed to a monthly service that will end up on your moble bill.  I read that sometimes responding to a short code will in fact do that until you reply "STOP" to cancel service.

I too was suspicious when my husband fwd me the text.  I was about to use an old e-mail account when my gut told me to Google four digit Craig's list responses.  Then I googled the gmail account and found these responses.  Turns out that they need fresh e-mail accounts and phone numbers to set up bogus craigslist accounts in order to set up spam adds.  DON'T GIVE IN!!!!!!!!!!

If they have the high def pictures they can make the add look like it's really their product. They dont just take crappy CraigsList pictures and put an HTML ad together .. if you ever notice, they always have nice looking cars with high quality pictures making the ad look custom but they never include a phone number and the cars are listed at a very low price. Don't help the scammers by sending your high resolution pictures.

I just got a text and they said "I found your craigslist AD today and I want to buy it could you please send me some higher definition pics to sevpole@gmail.com. Thanks."

If something doesnt seem right .. google key words (phone numbers, email addresses etc). they are getting smarter .. help spread the word.

Same thing happened to me.  I had a couple Craigslist ads up, so I don't know which one this guy was going on, but I'm glad I researched it.  This is the fourth scam people tried to get me on - thank God for Google research!  Also BEWARE of someone emailing under the name "Ryan Barnes" or "Marvin Rizzo" or under the email "damianlaisons@gmail.com"  All these people are scammers.  NEVER wire money Western Union!!
