Call came to my wife's cell phone. Of course no message as this is surely a scam.  These are calls made by a machine probably designed to see if it is a "live" number to sell to other scammers. Machines don't care much about the Do Not Call List.  Only the honest abide by the law.  Authorities can't trace these kinds of calls because the ID is "spoofed", i.e. the caller can put any number in to show up but it is NOT the number from which the call is made. In this case, according to other reviewers, it is the calling number.

The Samsung Galaxy S mobile phone allows users to create an auto reject list consisting of all phone numbers that users do not wish to answer calls from. This telephony feature is particularly useful to block unwanted calls from agencies and telemarketers. However, the auto reject list can include any contact from the contacts list. To create an auto reject list, the Auto Reject must be enabled on the Samsung Galaxy S mobile phone. The Auto Reject option is available as part of the Call Settings of the Samsung mobile phone. To create an auto reject list, simply add the phone numbers and save them in the list.

That explanation sounds complicated. What carrier charges caller ID fees anymore? It seems to be a standard part of any voip or cell plan that I have seen for a long time. I pay a less than $45/month (including taxes) total for smartphone mobile and voip home phone and have caller ID on both lines without an itemized fee. I don't see how are they making money off of caller ID "database" fees when there are none.

As I understand it, the problem is caller ID spoofing
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caller_ID_spoofing
I do feel that the major carriers should try to band together and create a more secure caller ID system that would discourage caller ID spoofing.

Hmmm, interesting Anon. I too have used American Airlines for the first time in a long time over labor day weekend.  Got the call from this number today at 11 PST.  Couldn't answer at the time, and no message left.  Busy signal when calling back.

Got a call from this number a few minutes ago on my cell.  Cell # is Alabama # & I live in IL.  They did not leave a message.  I was in my bedroom when I heard the phone ring & had to go to another room because it was in my purse.   I'm not interested in calling to see who they are.

Got pre-recorded phone message from them on my _cell phone_ Sep 12. Yes a woman's voice and the first part was cut off (as it started when my outgoing message started) and she said press 1 to talk to a cruise specialist; press 2 to "decline this offer and be placed on our do not call list".

I just reported it.

My cell is on the Do Not Call List but apparently it means nothing as I continue to get solicitation calls. Just now received a call from the above number. It was a recording telling me that I had entered a "free cruise drawing" and I was selected!  Really? Pressed #2-not interested and remove from call list!

yep,, they have called 6 times in the past 2 days,, leaves no messages ,,I wont call them back,, as my time and intelligence is worth more than that-

Do not give them any answers to their questions,,,just hang up,, and keep on hanging up on them,, dont even tell them you are on the "DO NOT CALL" list, as they really dont care-

708-613-2044 called my cell phone today, but if the caller is not on my contact list, the phone has a ring tone that is different from calls form anyone on my contact list and I do not answer the call.

why bother calling them back??? if it's important, they'll leave a message...otherwise, it's a garbage call and a waste of your time to call back...also, when you call them back, then your number shows up on their caller ID and they know that it's an active number, ensuring more calls for you...

I am on the do not call as well.  It went to voicemail and a woman's voice left a message about a cruise.  I use Mr. Number and have blocked this number....not that it will do any good.

I received a call from this number today, but no message was left.  I am on both State and National Do Not Call lists.  The caller ID said "Unavailable."  After reading several postings about the number on this site, I blocked all future calls from the number.  THANK YOU, 800Notes!

The way the these scams work is there are companies that manage the Caller ID database. Whenever a call is placed your phone company uses one of these databases in order to display the incoming call on your phone (Caller ID). Your phone company pays these companies for the use of their caller ID database. It's cheaper for them to pay another company than maintain the caller ID database themselves. Your phone company is billed, a fraction of a penny per access to the database, each month by these companies based on how many times they accessed the caller ID database. You pay a fee each month to cover the cost for the phone company but you pay much more to the phone company then the phone company pays to the caller ID database companies.

So, the caller ID company makes millions by using telemarketing companies to auto-dial as many numbers as they can in a day. Each time the auto-dialer finds a match in the caller ID database it charges the phone company for the use of their database. The phone company makes millions by adding an additional fee to your phone bill and consumers lose millions because we are paying the added fee. It's a scam. This is why the Do Not Call list is useless. The phone companies have bought off the politicians to not enforce the laws. Think about it. If the NSA can track every phone call made and find a terrorist in the haystack don't you think they can track down a company that makes millions of calls a day in violation of the Do Not Call list?

The only way to stop this is to cancel your caller ID subscription. Once the phone company realizes that consumers have figured out the game they will put a stop to it.

Also, when the auto-dialer calls your number and your number is not in the caller ID database they do not bill the phone company for that transaction so it's a waste of their time and resources to continue to call you. Now that does not mean they will stop calling you but I suspect that after a couple of months the fact that your number does not have caller ID will work its way through their system and eventually your number will be removed.

As far as the free vacation or lower interest on your credit cards, if they get a sucker on the line to bite that's just a bonus. The real money is in the caller ID database fees.

I personally have a fax machine connected to my line that picks up on the 4th ring. It has reduced the number of calls I receive considerably.

Got a call today...same as everyone else - no message left. I'm just wondering because I just applied for a loan yesterday and signed a paper that said they couldn't release/sell my personal information but all of a sudden I started receiving calls from strange numbers....very suspect that the company did in fact give out my personal info. Not happy

Same here.  Called my cellphone, which number I don't give to anyone, and only use when I travel.  Made the mistake in giving it to Suddenlink while trying to get my wi-fi modem reset, so they could call me back.
