They have called twice and when I answer they say sorry wrong number and hangs up this last time (tonight 12/22/09) I tried to talk to them but they hung up. I did a reverse lookup and it is Mitchell Communications Group in Sterger IL and evidently they have several numbers and are calling people and only if they are older to they talk to them. I sound young so next time I will try to sound like an old lady and see what is going on. I will get them!

Just got the same call 5/6/10. I couldn't really keep up with how fast the guy talked so didn't get 800 number so looked on caller id and being as I'm autistic and have to know who called looked the name of company up on internet. Mitchell communication is a business in Australia. And they are not part of any sweepstakes. So when I tried to look up phone # on my caller id I ended up here. So now I know he was offering a prize for a contest I never entered because I don't enter sweepstakes. Goodness I don't even buy lottery tickets. this screams SCAM!

Got a phone call today (05/06/10) from "TONY", said I won one of the top prizes to call back to claim my prize at 877-279-3457 ext 243. this was not a cold call or a telemarketer, that he wouldn't be calling unless I had won something. The caller ID did not match the callback number that he gave. I searched for the number online and found this is a scram. Caller ID: 708-833-8716

I'd love to win the leg lamp from a Christmas Story! Fantastic...thanks for the giggle.
I'm also a major award winner - although, my call was from David - not Tony. :)

Thank you everybody- I just took a call at 11:30 AM at my father's house. he is in the moderate stages of Alzheimer's. When I answered the phone there was a brief pause, then a male voice said that he had dialed the wrong number. I star 69'ed it and got this #.
It seems to me that the prize center is vetting victims confused enough to claim prizes and the bilk them for financial info.
I was fuming!

Same message from "Tony". Obvious scam.

Tony left a message that we had won a new car in response to an entry form we filled out. Sounded like a scam so I researched on internet; found similar info at 800 Notes. Thanks folks.

Tony is busy - I too have one a major award.. Perhaps it's the leg lamp from Christmas Story? As I haven't entered any drawings, I clearly haven't won anything...
who can this be reported to as a scam?

I received a call from this number yesterday and "TONY" left the following message "Hi this is Tony calling from the Prize Service Center, I have made numerous attempts to reach you regarding an entry form that was filled out in your name within the last 12-18 months to win a new car, this will be my final attempt to notify you that your name was pulled as a winner and we are going to award you one of our top 4 major prizes, it would be in your best interest to give me a call back as soon as possible, my number is toll free at 877 279-3457 x 109. We're not a telemarketing agency or a time share, this is not a cold call..........I do look forward to hearing from you, once again, my name is Tony". He obviously has numerous call back numbers and extensions.

My call was exactly the same as mentioned above from think it through. No need to think it through, it's a scam (Mitchell communications) Don't even bother calling the toll free number.

I too received a call from "Tony" telling me I won a contest I entered. Which is weird because I habitually avoid entering any contests for just this reason! "Tony" used the exact same script as posted above...no company name, no details...nothing. He also didn't give a name of who he was calling...what if he had the wrong number?? Normally people say "hello, this call is for (insert my name)". I am not going to call back.
| ThinkItThrough 2009-12-16 16:13:59 Event Reminder |
I received a call from this number this morning and the caller left the following message "Hi this is Tony calling from the prize service center, I have made numerous attempts to reach you regarding an entry form that was filled out in your name within the last 12-18 months to win a new car, this will be my final attempt to notify you that your name was pulled as a winner and we are going to award you one of our top 4 major prizes, it would be in your best interest to give me a call back as soon as possible, my number is toll free at 877 866-4202 ext.1001. We're not a telemarketing agency or a time share, this is not a cold call, so please (undicernable) this message, and I am very aware of the do not call list so I would not be calling unless you actually entered, this is a time sensitive matter, I do look forward to hearing from you, once again, my name is Tony".
This seems very fishy to me. Firstly, there were no prior attempts made to contact me regarding this. Secondly, the call sounded extremely scripted,... as if they were making many of the exact same calls one after another. In addition, I feel if this were legitimate, more information regarding the callers company and the contest that I supposedly entered would have also been relayed in the message, especially with all the news of the many scams that are continually going on.
However, I decided to call anyway. My call was answered by an automated answering service which stated that I had reached the prize fulfillment center (again, no mention of a company name, or the name of the contest) and that the calls may be monitored for quality assurance. It then stated that if I knew the parties extension that I would like to reach to please enter it,... which I did. That took me to a voice mail box for Tony which then asked me to leave my name and number and he would return my call,... but then I could'nt leave my information because another recording then stated that his mail box was full and could not accept any more messages.
Now, if he had called me with regard to my winning "one of four major prizes" that leads me to believe (if this were legitimate) that maybe he called the three other prize winners as well,... so even if all four of us returned his call and left a brief message should his voice mail box have been full?,... or are they making so many calls that they can't return the amount of return calls that they recieve quickly enough before their voice mail boxes fill up?
Seems pretty suspicious to me. And if I did get through to someone I woud'nt give them any of my information until they gave me their company information (their full company name and address, and the specifics with regard to the supposed contest). I would then need to verify their legitimacy (as I'm sure they would understand with all the scams going on today) with consumer protection agencies such as the Better Business Bureau, the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Federal Trade Commission, etc.,... and if it turns out they are legitimate, I would then, and only then, very happily and appreciably accept my prize!
