The individual asks for a "Greg Alter", and I could hear other voices in the background. That suggests to me it was a boiler room of some kind. Oh and they did not ask for me by name, but some fraud. Or worse non existent name.

And he was polite. When he asked for that name, I answered along the lines of "Not here." or "No name like that here.". and he thought he must have the wrong number. Which makes me think what does he want this joker for?

They do talk nor leave a message.

THey mispronounced my name.

Same, got a call for this number, no message.

They call to verify that there is a person at the phone number they dialed and if they can get other info (Title, email, etc.) that is even better because they then sell the info to other telemarketers.

Call from Marin Software to offer you their technology to help with your online advertising accounts.

They are calling you because you are either a business, or they have the wrong number.

Got a weird call looking for a colleague, he kept saying weird things and not listening to my answers.  When I asked who he was he said he had what ne needed and hung up.

Got a call from a lady, she had my last name correct, but not my first name... she apologized and hung up.

Got a call and the caller(she) got my first name right, last name wrong, but close. But she got my company wrong, and then the female caller apologized and hung up.

Got a call at work from this number. Female caller asked for me (mispronounced my name, but came close).  Then said they had the wrong number.
