Same song, different dance. I've blocked them on my phone completely. I told them send me documentation & I'll go from there. I got a tirade of rude statements. THEN the stupid woman asked for my address. I told her to tell me what she had on file & I would verify it. MORE rude statements & told me I HAD to state my address. I told her NO I did not, I only had to verify or correct what information they had. She couldn't give me anything at all. So I laughed & told her to have a lovely day. Immediately after is when I blocked them. Upon looking at my blocked log they tried to call 7 more times that day.

Called left message saying that they were a law firm considering legal action on a debt I owed and need to talk to me immediately.  I don't think so.  Thank goodness for caller i.d. I am not answering their bs calls.  I don't appreciate the suing threat either.  I guess it is good that collection agencies employ these jerks or they would be feeding off of federal assistance otherwise.  Upside to everything!

Prank Call
got them to admit that the person they call has a right to know what business is being conducted on the callee's phone. They call me, ask for a person who doesn't live here and refuse to tell me what the business is about. Informed them since they refused to tell me what the business was about, they had no reason to be calling me. I was told they would remove my number form their call list. To which they were informed I had been trying to get that done for months but apparently they were too stupid to get it done. Between that and telling the caller to shut up while I was talking, I managed to get 2 of them mad at me today.

They have also been told that the person they want does not live in my residence, I am not a messenger service, and I know more than 1 person with the name of the person they want to talk to.

THEY ARE TOTALLY BRAIN DEAD!!!

This crooked collection agency (Regent and Associates) is run by Texas lawyer Anh Huynh Regent.  Continuously running afoul of federal and state debt collection laws.  Being sued in multiple states for unprofessional conduct.
Even the BBB has an extensive negative history on this vulture.
Court filings pitifully wrong as noted by judges in some collections cases on appeal.  Totally wrong filings. Totally wrong claims and pleadings.  The courts in those cases have every reason to refer Anh Huynh Regent for unprofessional conduct.
Acts as a shill for NCO and Porfolio Recovery.
Files (knowingly) claims that are beyond the statute of limitations.
Falsifies filings and dates on SOL matters.
Hires bottom-scrapers to make illegal and harrassing phone calls.
Pursuing debtors in states in which his company, as well as his law firm, do NOT have a legal presence.  This means activities in those states are illegal.
If he is annoying you, contact Anh Huynh Regent

Called this number back and was told about some stupid payday loan crap. I've gotten these types of calls before, so I was ready. I said that I never had a payday loan. Then I said I wanted to dispute and asked for their name and address. He said that he couldn't give out the address because of the nature of the business. So I asked for a p.o. box. Of course he was ready. So here comes the foolishness! P.O. Box 7134, Houston, TX. Then I said Ok the zipcode, he immediately says Hold On I have another call coming in, just a second. I knew then this wasn't real! So he comes back and again I ask for the zipcode. And he says 30017...Uhmmm #1 I know that's not a Houston zipcode and #2, I had already looked it up on the usps.com website. I said to him that's not a Houston zipcode...he got quiet, so I hung up! Dummies!!!!

And the business name he gave was legal Affairs & Processing

Called and left threatening message at work and on cell phone.  Called numerous family members in other states as well.  Called the attorney general and they have a lot of complaints (several this week already I was told).  Contact your attorney general and law enforcement, it is illegal to make threats and pretend to be an attorney (that is what the guy told me who left the message, he is a telemarketer).  See this website for more info. as well.  Tons of complaints from the company http://www.franchisecredit.com/the-truth-about-regent-and-associates/

That is the same number that called my mother in law. I talked to my state attorney General,  they said I was the 17th person to call within a week. Nothing that they threatened will happen, even if they do try, a judge or da has to sign the warrant, being is they have never tried to sue me or have been contacting the wrong adress, rhe chances of them signing off on it are 0! Then per the attorney General, I have an ace on the hole, because once I explain to judge in a civil court not criminal,  how we got here, and how they scared the s*** out of my mom in law, they will probably owe me money!!!! Of course, the state attorney General is completely wrong and they are right, whatever!  Attorney General is sending me a complaint form, and I suggest everyone contact their states attorney general, and file a complaint. What these people are doing is illegal,  and I smell a class action lawsuit in the works!:)

505,
extortion scammers, scammers and all those illegal telemarketer callers do not think they have to obey the laws period, hence that is why they are the true criminals bottom line.  They are not scared of anyone, not even the police as I've seen officers post here with like story's. One even said his boss's where threatened. Why.. not all of these creeps are in the US..  and those that are, its a matter of time even then to catch them.  But toss in the foreign country, and it becomes a whole new bottle of fish..  ala red tape and co-operation.

Best thing you can do is get a call blocking device or phone at this point. Make sure you have no information available online. Google your name and have places like spokeo remove it..
Don't answer any numbers you don't recognize period, don't punch any buttons, don't return these type of calls..

A legitimate one or caller will follow the rules and laws btw..  a legitimate caller will leave you a voice mail without threats..

To my knowledge the statues of limitations, which are different in each state and you should look them up regardless, do not expire..   Those are the end of time allowed they can legally promote anything to collect anything. Past X date, they can't legally pursue anything. And Bankruptcy is just that, its a done deal! They are SOL..

Section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf requires 3rd-party debt collectors to give debtors written notice of debt (the key word is *shall*) :
"§ 809. Validation of debts
(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing?
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
(5) a statement that, upon the consumer?s written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor."

A Collection Agent May Not?

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

Misrepresent Him or Herself

A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

Use Abusive or Threatening Language

A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

Publish a Bad Debt List

Publishing the consumer?s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

Contact By Embarrassing Media

A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector?s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

Contact a Consumer at Work

A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.

Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request

If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.

Communicate With Third Parties

A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer?s debts with third parties other than the consumer?s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.
