How are these people able to do this. This is a crime and they should be punished. Just got a call from them and I asked for their info for my lawyer and he couldn't even speak english very well so i have no idea what he said. I told him he is full of sh*t and that its a scam and to take me off their damn list. Shouldnt the authorities be in this? I see posts on here from months ago and obviously they are still at it.

I have received 19 calls total from this number as well as 2 other numbers that are listed in other people's reports on here. The man identified himself as a police officer with the IRS (in a heavy middle eastern accent) told me that I had 45 minutes to send him $1500 or I had to turn myself over to the FBI for fraud against the IRS. While I was on the phone with him he told me that I had a warrant for my arrest and if I didn't clear this matter up immediately that I would be having my bank accounts seized and my house was already targeted for a search and seizure. So I live exactly one block away from my local Fairport Harbor Police Department and I walked up to the station while he was on the phone screaming at me that I must follow his instructions. I got ahold of an officer whom got on the phone with the man and he identified himself as a police officer and then the caller identified himself also as an officer (isn't that impersonation and isn't that a jailable offence?). The Police Department questioned the caller at length and they just kept saying the same thing that I must pay or go to jail. While on the phone another officer ran my information and found that I DO NOT and DID NOT have any such warrant that they claimed I had. When the Police notified the caller of that he started to cuss and hung up without further information. Then this morning the calls started again. I truly hope these scammers gets caught! They knew personal information about me and I was sick for days worrying about this. Protect yourselves!

Prank Call
This is the second time I've received a call from this number. They claim if I don't call back right away they won't be responsible for the consequences. That's a threat to me. There should be something that can be done about these calls.

This guy called me too. Same story. My sister actually works for the IRS, so I told him and he became rude and harassing. Called my sister and, of course they have no one by that name working for the IRS. She reported him for me.

Scam claiming to be the IRS and stating that I owe money and have been named in a lawsuit. They left two messages, I deleted them both. Do not even bother calling them back. Clearly a scam.

This Alex Cooper man left me a message about having to take legal action. Than continued to call me and say that I had four counts against me and he was going to issue a warrant out for my arrest if I didn't pay by the end of the day. Considering I've only filed taxes twice in my life, I knew this was an instant scam artist. I recommend calling your real local police department and informing them so they can maybe track the number and get these a***oles locked up.

Got a voice mail in an extremely heavy Eastern European accent from an Officer Eric Dermont, but when you call back you get an answering machine with the same voice saying Alex Cooper and saying "May God bless you."

I got the same voice mail from 571 408 7010 which is an Arlington Virginia and when I called I got a man saying he is Officer Frank Smits.  He said I am being sued by the IRS for an outstanding debt, but strangely he did not ask me for information or money- he just said I should wait to receive a letter in the mail.

Some guy claiming to be from IRS saying I was being taken to court by IRS for improperly filing my taxes. That I had 4 different counts against me and I was going to be issued out a warrant for my arrest. When I told him I was going to call the IRS myself and ask about it, he became very rude. I asked several questions about his name and ID number and he then disconnected the call.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.
