I get mines on my cell phone.. Called T Mobile and they are f****ng clueless.   Customer service agent studdered and irritated me even more.    

This is not a scam.  It is the number of  GlobalTelLink phone systems, which is the system used by the prison for inmates to call using a debit account set up by a family member so they can call home.  

i'm getting calls from the same number 1-713-489-7846 MNDOC can't understand the name given. didn't accept

I got 3 calls from that number today . The firts time they called I didn't answer bc I didn't recognize the number and it said that it was from Texas and I live in nc so I didn't bother to pick up the phone but  they left a message sayin that an inmate was trying to contact me the second time they call I was kinda scared so I decide not to answer and the third time I decide to answer bc they kept insisting and I thought it was my brother bc he went to Texas this weekend  bc of his job so I thought that he prolly had gotten in trouble or something  so when I answered the third time it was one of my ex boyfriend so i would say it's not a scam or anything it's a number that inmates used to make free phone calls to their love one

It's not a scam, but It's definitely a correction facility in. My brother got locked up for first time I was surprised to be getting a call from Texas. If you call back it does say you need a prepaid card but when someone calls you it's free.

Got 2 calls from this number but never answered. Stated it was a Franklin county corrections "free" call on the message.

I can confirm this is the prison system. Inmate may reside in ANY state!! Global Tel Link recently made some changes to their calling system so you may not recognize the number.

All states use this number it is global tel link it is people in county jails and few prisons can call cell phones with this. You put money in an account and they use it to call you. It is legitimate.

I agree with you.  I have an account with this number they may have the wrong number 1) inmate trying to contact 2) company letting know balance low.  I would go with inmate, they usually need to give list to facility of numbers they wish to be able to call, this list needs to be approved.
If you know of no one in facility just respond by blocking  but be sure you know of no one, cause if you block they will not be able to reach you.

This number IS from a correctional facility.  My ex called me three different times, I'm assuming to have me bail him out.  He left me messages.  I never answered because 1) I wasn't home, 2) I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize, and 3) Even if I had answered, I wouldn't bail him out since he's stupid and keeps getting arrested for the same thing.

I believe it is just the number that (possibly all) correctional facilities use now when inmates want to call out. From what I've read it also sounds like you can call in on it too, but either way.. you, or the inmate has to pay for the call and it allows you to pay with a credit card. With phone systems, virtual networks, and VoIP, they probably all call out differently, but use this number on the one to route the calls in and out. I'm sure everything is recorded also, as I think that's standard for any correctional facility. So... I don't think it's a scam... it's just the way it works. The inmate either has a wrong number, or they just randomly dialed, wanting to see who they'd get. I had several calls from this number later last night and didn't answer. When it rang after midnight (PST), I picked it up and he asked how things were going for getting him (or me?) out of jail. I told him he had a wrong number and he seemed surprised. We hung up and he didn't call again.

These ppl keep calling me, I don't know anyone in Prison. Wished this number would stop calling me.

This may be a company who has a contract with Correctional Services to handle their phone calls, I just got a call (answering machine picked up) and they said I had a free call from (name of person) and press 0 to accept.  The name of the person was unknown to me.  I will continue to let answering machine handle calls from this number. Oh, the recording also said the person was in the Hinds county detention center and that place is pretty close to where I live.

I just got a call from this number and could not answer, and the message was Spanish or totally not understandable...I know now from all you it is a prison...HOW DID THEY GET MY NUMBER??? Who do I report this too?

Just got a call from this number, wasn't able to get to the phone in time and the number didn't look familiar. Now that I know what's going on I'll block this number if I get any more calls from it.

This is not a scam, chances are some one you know is locked up. Could be anywhere in U.S .Most correction ins.use this number.I know some one in Kershaw County S.C, they are calling me from this number. Although I did not add money.An the sad part most of the time you can't understand where located.So best advice..... Know first someone you know is calling .. There are other opinions opposed to collect call.You can money gram are western union.Are send money order . Are if broke like me... Simply write a letter.. Sooner are later they will write you a letter. They are given stamped envelopes an paper... Good luck!!!

I get a call from my son's father every month and he is in prison in NC. This number pops up and I know it is him. They are not trying to scam you.

Hello everybody the number is real . When some one call from a correctional location and have no money in there account to make out going calls a recording dose ask the reciever to accept collect call or your ask to set up an account with your debit or credit card but it would be under there correctional account number for making out side calls which could cost as much as $4 a day . The area code maybe bogus but the call is real.

I got a call from this number about 3 weeks ago. once I heard it was from a jail in  Texas I hung up since I don't have family or friends in Texas. Yesterday I got a call again, so I answered and accepted the call. It was one of my old friends from back in high school who has been in jail for quite a while now so THIS IS NOT SCAM.
