This guy called asking if we would accept an offer $10,000 lower than our asking price from his investors who would pay in cash.  This all sounded too weird to me so I didn't tell him much other than I would have to discuss it with my husband then asked him his name which he said was Oscar.  He said, "So, it is possible you may accept a lower offer?"  I told him many things were possible, but that I wasn't going to commit to anything without speaking to my husband.  He told me he would let his investors know about our home and they would be in contact again if they were interested.  Then I came here...what a scam, telling people they would show up to see home and not coming!

Same deal.  I got a man named Peter McMullin who really didn't sound very anglo-scottish (actually it was the fact that he kept tripping over his name as I asked him to repeat it a couple of times).  He said he got my name from Craigslist.  He asked some questions about a property I have and I thought it was fishy because he didn't seem to realize it was a fourplex apt. bldg and not a single family home even though I kept telling him.  When my BS detector went off for the fifth time I asked he wanted to meet me on Saturday to look at the property.  He said he was calling from east Texas and represented a group of investors.

I got a call today asking if my place was for sale. When I answered in the affirmative, this guy asked what I was asking for the house. I thought this was a bizarre question and said that it was in all the ads and why are you asking me (my BS meter was tingling). He then said would I take $30,000 less than asking. I told him I thought he was a scammer conducting business like this over the phone and he politley said that if that was my attitude, 'Goodbye' and that was the end of it.
If it sounds too good to be true in this market it probably is.

I received a call from this number tonight by an Asian that was very hard to understand and sounds like he was in a call center about selling my house.  He said he represented an interested party who was willing to pay cash for my house at $10,000 less than asking.  I asked where he heard about the house and he said his client say it on craigslist.  He then asked a series of generic questions about the property that he said his client had that were actually in the Craigslist ad which raised a red flag for me.  He told me he would talk to his client then get back to me.  After reading all of these entries it sounds like some sort of scam.  My house is not in foreclosure or preforeclosure and from reading what I have about Tim Mai, that is what he looks for.

I received a call this morning about my home.  The woman said that investors wanted to make me an offer and she quoted them right there and it was just 10,000 below our asking price.  My husband and I talked and actually decided to accept the offer (we know people who had an investor buy their home) and so we called the number back and someone answered.  I asked for the woman I spoke to earlier and I got her-no problem.  My husband then talked to her and we accepted the offer.  She then said that she would be passing this on to the investor and we'd be talking to him soon.  This happened two hours ago and we haven't heard from anyone yet, so I'm really upset to be reading all this-it looks like it's not real.  But why wouldn't they have their number marked as private or something?  You can look up "Tim Mai" and he's got a page and everything.  Crazy.

just got a call from this number.  almost impossible to understand, but was asking about buying my arizona home for cash on behalf of investors, etc.  sounded like a call center so i was more interested in getting off the phone than in listening to whatever he was saying.  would love to know where they are getting our numbers.

Received same call returned it three times and mailbox full.  There is some kind of scam here and I think it is based on the idea that I would want to do all that I can to find this guy, even paying for a service that locates him.  It someone has that service, and they make 50-60 phone calls a day about buying a home in Florida, an say 50% Buy the service, that is 30 x $14.95 or over $400 per day of gross revenue.  This is my thought.

In May we received a call from this number setting up a date and time to view our home in Hawaii.  We were given this number to contact if we had any questions.  When this number is called, you receive the info that it is an extension and the mailbox is full.  June 18th was set and we waited home all day for the representative to show up.  The name on the caller ID was that of Tim Mai who sells lists of houses in foreclosure and "pre-foreclosure".  Our house is in neither and I think this is a deceptive way of doing business.  If you want to list the house, ask the owner and do not make then wait home all day for some bogus showing.

Guy called today and offered me a price $10k below asking.  Sounds like a big scam.  I called our realtor and he said to ask for "proof of funds" in either a bank statement or investment account.  We'll see what happens.

I just got a call from an Indian woman saying she was calling on behalf of investors in my area.  I have my house on the market and she wanted to know why I was selling.  I think she thought that I was desperate or that it was a foreclosure and it is not.  They must be scamming these names from the banks.  The mortgage company was IndyMac and they are going under and that is public knowledge.  These people have to be stopped.  I tracked the call and it came from Houston, TX.

Just got the same call this morning from "Travis" the call center somewhere in the south pacific... All the details the same, 10K below the asking price (he had to ask what the price was), said he got the number from craigslist, knew the square footage but had to confirm the smaller details.  Gave me lip service about the details etc.  He said they were in Houston, representing Tim Mai.  I believe this scam is not affiliated with the real Tim Mai but some other type of scam that could go beyond what we are taking it for. They are using the Tim Mai name as a cover.  I don't know, it could be as one person said above looking at desperate people, or something of a processing center to collect your name, number etc for a real estate spam campaign, or something bigger. I'll do more research and add what I find.   PHONE CALLS FROM TIM MAI ARE A SCAM.   Please be careful about your personal information.  More to come.  Thank you for the information everyone.
Best Regards

Hi! I'm Rachel and i am one of the owners that tim mai called 4months ago. I am very much thankful that he called cause I'm so desperate to sell my property. Now I'm happily living with my family here in miami. Thanks to him! A friend of mine told me about this website saying bad things about him. You should not judge people cause you'll never know that the person you said was a scammer is the one who can REALLY sell your house in no time. Think first before you react.

Tim Mai is a legitimate real estate investor that lives in the Houston area.

He has a number of assistants that make calls for him. They buy and sell 10-15 houses per month.

How can you say they are "scammers"?

This many people have gotten calls from his company but none of you have actually lost any money. Doesn't sound like a "scam" to me.

They are looking for very specific type of house with very specific price vs value. So they go through large numbers of fsbo leads to find the houses they are looking for.

I've worked with Tim for a while and know him to be honest and legitimate.
