Every few days a call from this number - listed as THIN OPS on the caller ID.  I don't answer and they hang up before it goes into voice mail.   Pest.

Lying is never the best way to handle any problem.

Thinops is a third party company hired by various utilities to solicit business for them and therefore, in the transfer of data from the utility companies to Thinops, errors will occur and time delays will cause information to be missed.

It's wise to always ask for a caller's name and employee ID FIRST, BEFORE you answer ANY questions and if necessary, demand that they give you clear and unambiguous answers to simple questions like, "who is your employer," "what is your address," etc., but ALWAYS get employee ID's and if they claim they don't have one or won't give it to you, ask for a supervisor.

REQUIRING identifying information will increase the likelihood that you will get honest answers, appropriate behavior and no hang ups.

Treating others the way you expect to be treated is ALWAYS better than lying.

No, it's a third party company soliciting for the utility companies. Unfortunately, your information is given to them by the utilities so it can be especially annoying if you've already contracted for service.

They are quite likely to represent themselves as the company for whom they're soliciting your business, because to represent themselves honestly as a third party, that just leads to more questions, time and that leads to fewer closed deals.

If you "just" switched providers, then it is very likely that was why they were calling. It's a third party company soliciting business for the various utilities like Reliant and ATT.

Answer the phone, interrupt the caller if you have to and say, very emphatically, "Please give me your name and employee ID."

(MAKE THIS A HABIT. This is ALWAYS the best way to start a conversation with ANY representative of ANY company, because once they give you their identifying information, they realize they're accountable and they're less likely to lie, be rude and/or hang up on you.)

If they give you anything else, say the same thing again.

If they refuse, hesitate or seem to not want to cooperate, you can say something like, "if you won't identify yourself properly, let me speak to your supervisor." (If, at any point you think they're lying to you, ask for their supervisor and if they ask you why, tell them honestly that you don't find them credible.)

If they give you the information, either ask why they're calling or let them give you their spiel. If you decide you don't want to hear from them again, say, "Put me on your do not call list." The fact that you have their identifying information increases the chance that they will do as you ask, because by asking them to identify themselves, they immediately have and will show more respect for you.

If you do speak to a supervisor because the representative does not cooperate (always ask the supervisor for their name and employee ID also), tell them respectfully what the representative did that was inappropriate and if you've decided you don't want them to call you again, ask them to put you on their "do not call" list.

It's good to have an "accounts" folder where you can write all the information with the date so that if it ever becomes an issue, you have a record of date and time and people and specifics which will give credibility to your claims.

First time this number has shown up - listed as THINOPS. Wonder if this has anything to do with just switching electric providers online about 30 minutes ago. Left no message. If you can't leave me a message, then I presume you are a scammer.

I listed my number on the Do Not Call list years ago and it keeps getting removed - Why? Within 30 minutes of listing my prepaid cell # (which I've had for 5 years), I was hit with 5 scam texts! Don't waste your time or energy listing your #s on the DNC list - come on - it's government run. Just sayin".

@ Theresa May 5, 2011...Are you kidding me?  First off, your spelling and grammar is horrible.  Aside from that, you either work for Thin Ops and are trying to make yourself come off as a regular satisfied customer, or you really are THAT ignorant.  You're defending them as if they are some kind of free volunteer service that loves AT&T so much that they're willing to help with their high volume of customers because they have nothing better to do.  Thin Ops is not run by the AT&T corporation.  They're just a dealer.  For example you can get AT&T mobile phone service at some ghetto little wireless phone store as long as they're a dealer.  It doesn't mean they're going to be a professional company with values, ethics, or morals.
Plain and simple, they said they are AT&T and they're not.  Because of that, they got my business.  They lied to gain my business.  To top it off, they did not give me the service or products that I paid for.  A year and a half later, I'm still dealing with it while these losers continue to profit by creating headaches for AT&T customers.  I don't care if they're on the AT&T website as a dealer.  It doesn't mean they're any good.
If you really saved $140, good for you.  I lost THOUSANDS!  My retail business phone service was down for nearly 4 weeks because of this "company".  The REAL AT&T had to get involved to fix it.  I still have billing issues 1 1/2 years later because of Thin Ops.  I don't think you have much of an argument in favor of Thin Ops considering every other bit of feedback on this company is negative.

STAY AWAY FROM THIN OPS!  THEY ARE NOT AT&T!

PLEASE READ!  Very good info about THIN OPS!

Thin Ops is an AT&T dealer.  They will represent themselves as AT&T.  I signed up with them for VOIP business phone service not knowing I was dealing with AT&T directly.  They called my business and offered the service to me.  They already had all of my AT&T account/plan info and offered me a much better plan than what I had.
Long story short, they were never able to install the new phone system.  They couldn't figure it out.  I was dealing with Thin Ops and AT&T reps by this point.  I requested to cancel the order and go back to my original plan.  This started in June 2010, it is now Jan 2012, and is still not resolved.
One month after this started, my identity was stolen.  I'm not sure if this has something to do with it, but, so far, dealing with Thin Ops is difficult and makes them seem responsible for my ID theft.  Most of the numbers that people have listed no longer work, and I can never get a hold of the person that I'm supposed to speak with.  Every bit of it seems shady.
BEWARE!  Always make sure you're dealing with AT&T directly, NOT a "dealer".  AT&T will NOT contact you to offer you phone/internet services.  I'm surprised AT&T has not yet revoked their dealer privileges.  AT&T is aware of my problem.  I will mention this website to them so that they have a better understanding of the existing problems with Thin Ops.

Here is tip to the No Call List--- You havre to let the rep read you the Do Not Call Disclosure to ensure that the company(not the rep) will indeed remove you from the list- dont just say put me on your do not call list and hang up or else the company(NOT THE REP!) will put your number back in the rotation. yes ROTATION- No call center actually dials a number- a computer does- we are just the poor folks trying to earn a buck listening to you guys yell at us about AT&T, cuss at us, i've even heard death threats- hanging up on us is the least of the things that happen to us each day, its not a great job but at least it is a job in this economy. By the way Thinops is a Vendor for AT&T- put it to you this way- There are more AT&T customers than AT&T employees, so they have to outsource to companies like mine so that all the calls that are made can be handled- there are long wait times because there are so many of you calling in and hanging up and then calling back-when you hang up you lose your place in line, just like at the grocery store, at the grocery store at least you have the other customers saying "hey you cant cut back in line! you got out!"

if you ever get a call like that from any company -get their name! report them, it makes it easier to weed out the bad seeds if more folks would have the presence of mind to remember who it was that offended them- beleive me that company has other employees working next to that ignorant person that wishes someone would report the bad behavior so they can work without that person bleeding negative thoughts into their workspaces.

Received call from this number saying they were calling about my business account with AT&T.  I called back and it was not AT&T, put on hold and hung up.  Caller ID shows THINOPS.  Person's name leaving the message was Kiara Bell with a return number of 888-595-8748.  Announcements and recordings are not typical of AT&T's information.

They have several numbers they use. All in 713 area code. Sometimes ID says THINOPS, sometimes just "toll free". I don't take either one of them from this area code.  They call all times during the day and evening, even weekends and holidays. I am on do not call registry, but it doesn't stop them..I don't even leave my answering machine on, anymore. Just roll back caller ID when I get home, and there they are...

7135765960 - this is was also caller id'd to me at Thinops. I suspect they are one of a number of Houston companies doing robot dialing - if you - or your voice mail - pick up - you will find your number sold to one of those "one million verified phone numbers" CDs for a hundred bucks.

Thinops calls customers for AT&T, and are a legitimate vendor for AT&T. Thinops will place you on a do-not-call list if you like, all you have to do is ask them to do so, and they will do it. I would advise answering the phone when they call, and asking them to place you on their list, because when you don't answer, they normally try you back later. Thinops is not at fault IMO, they are just handling work that ATT cannot perform. They were great with me, saved me quite a bit.

You can always ask to be placed on a do not call list, they will honor that request.
Yes, they are representatives of ATT.
