Don't count on the number being where any of the reverse lookup sites say that area code belongs!
1. Spoofing the calling number is easy for any of these commercial scam phone banks
2. With phone number portability, you can get a number one place then "keep" it as you move elsewhere (scam artists love to do this)

ATTENTION:
I called this number today, to see what would happen (I got a call several months back) and a lady picked up. I hung up because I would have never expected that! I called 2 more times and one of those times, the lady said she received this number 2 days ago. I knew that was a lie. After that my friend spoke and said "This # is a credit card fraud and repeated it like 10 times" after, they would stop calling! they left a voice mail saying press 1 to lower your interest rate and so on....I knew they were still a fricken fraud!
WHAT THE FRICK! 2011-07-07 15:40:52 Unknown
Somebody please call the number now and some lady will answer! I said "sorry wrong number" and they replied "DONT CALL BACK I JUST GOT THIS # TWO DAYS AGO!"

Automated caller calls your phone asking if you want to lower your current credit card rate, asking you to press "1" if you wish to lower your rate. When you press "1" and speak to a representative, they want YOUR credit card number and YOUR Social Security Number. When you ask why they dont know it, the woman on the phone goes ghetto and starts talking in ebonics and cussing. This is an identity theftcredit card # theft.

Do your part, call that FTC number and report it. They do go after them.

JB 2011-06-06 20:55:18 Unknown
They simply do that so you have no way to contact them so they're un-stopable

Report them to the FTC ( Federal Trade Commission which is a government agency ). It is Illegal for them to call you on your cell phone; it is illegal for them to leave you recorded messages!
1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); REPORT THEM TODAY!
And you do NOT need to put your number on any donotcall list.
Just report these scammers!

This number called my cell today at 5:09pm Aug.17 2010. As soon as the woman started to talk I hung up! I knew it was the same one that called my husbands cell phone and my home phone number. She always asks about lowering credit card interest rates. With so many complaints against this number how are they still getting away with calling people. What has happened to our government that used to protect its own people. These people are stealing money from us by causing us to have to pay due to their calling. This is a scam but also harassment on their part. This is not the only phone number that calls even though we are on the do not call list. Now when a call comes and itś a number not known I just pick up the phone and let them listen to the TV or I put them on hold and wait to see how long they hang on the phone. We get a laugh with that.

Here's how the conversation went....
Automated message.....I pressed "1" so as to tell them to put me on their "Do Not Call" list.
After 2 min. of ringing....a little peeved it took that long to answer since they're trying to get money out of me in some way.....the phone finally clicks to a "rep".
The first thing I hear is a really loud Yawn....and a guy starts his speal....."Did you press "1" to lower your interest rate?"
I start laughing and ask if he really just yawned.....realizing it was a scam...
He says, "Is there a problem?"
I said through my laughter..."Put me on your "Do Not Call List"".....
He responded, "Never in a million years".....
I hope they call back.....as another poster mentioned......I'm going with, "this is Special agent Franklin with the FBI, Los Angeles branch, we have you located in Orange, could I speak with your supervisor?"

They called me this morning on my corporate cell phone but when I answered, there was no response on the other end, so I hung up.
Thanks to everyone who have posted their stories--now I know to avoid this, and to tell the rest of my family the same.

Same call:
"Automated caller calls your phone asking if you want to lower your current credit card rate, asking you to press "1" if you wish to lower your rate. When you press "1" and speak to a representative,"
I asked them what card they're calling on and they said any card and I told them to put me on their do not call list. I doubt that's going to make a difference.
Bastards call my cell phone.

Got a call from this number didn't answer as I didn't recognize but googled it while it was still ringing. Thanks for the information. If they call again, I think I'll answer, "This is Detective _____ speaking..." and see how fast they hang up! ;)

Got this call, ID theft attempt. Decline calls from this number.
Eric 2011-06-06 20:55:18 Unknown
They called at my work cell-phone. I asked the lady what company she is with and why they called my work phone. She said something like "Please disregard this call, bye-bye." That is not professional at all. The fact that these folks have computer driven automated phone calling equipment makes me think it's not an ID theft scam. It's probably just a "we'll reduce your debt for a fee" scam where they take your money and don't reduce your debt. But I'm just guessing - I don't know.

Got a call from this number yesterday while I was on the other line with my husband. They didn't leave a message, I'm so glad I didn't click over to answer! Also glad this site is here to help each other out...
Rob 2011-06-06 20:55:18 Unknown
I just got this call also. I figured that it was a identity theft scam since the only card I have solely in my name is a debit card. Can't decrease interest rates on those!

I recived this phone call 2 days ago at around 4 oclock in the afternoon. I happen to be swimming at the time so I was not able to answer the phone. Thought it was some friends playing a joke on me or something so I called back. It said the voice mailbox was full...I had to call about 15 times because I was dying to know who it was. I recived a phone call back from the same number but I happen to be sleeping so I couldn't answer that too! It sounded like an Indian kid!! There was a man in the backround basicly telling him what to say. He said:
"I've been reciving your phone calls..." "You called me twice" (I DID NOT!) "Call me back" (I CANT YOUR INBOX IS FULL!!!!)
lateralus 2011-06-06 20:55:18 Unknown
The number is based out of Orange County, California. They will attempt to get your credit card # and Social Security number. BEWARE.
Meghan 2011-06-06 20:55:18 Unknown
I also got a similar phone call. I asked what credit card they were with and he said they worked with MasterCard or Visa. I asked again what company he was working for and he asked me a question about having at least 4 thousand dollar balance on a card, which i don't have, and then he hung up...
