Better Business Bureau has issued a national alert about phony debt collectors that are calling consumers nationwide and claiming that they have defaulted on a payday loan and will be arrested if they don?t pay immediately.

Claiming to be lawyers, the scammers say they are with the ?Financial Accountability Association? or the ?Federal Legislation of Unsecured Loans? and often have the victim?s Social Security, old bank account numbers or driver?s license numbers as well as home addresses, employer information and even the names of personal friends and professional references.

Phone numbers that the scammers are calling from include: 949-468-5107, 415-200-0274, 213-784-5745, 408-715-1614 and many others.

I, receiv ed a call from a guy who said he was going to serve me an affadavit for an unpaid payday loan! He gace me a case number to call said he would be at my house at 8:oo tonight. I called the company and they said we could maybe work out a deal. But I thought they were seving an affadavit tonight

Did you ever go to court? Just asking to get peace of mind. That same Indian guy keeps calling me too.

the number is 1-714-598-4242.  Yes, I too, have been getting those same calls.  I reported them to the FTC and Attorney General office.  They have been calling my job saying they need to talk to my boss.  It's just ridiculous.  I was freaked out until I called some of the payday loans places and they told me that they are scamming and not to give them any money, because they don't do their legal actions they way they are claiming they do it.  I asked them to send me some information and they wouldn't.  Told me to pay the money and then they will send me information.  Also they have a wireless number 941-961-8518.  It's disconnect number.

941 961 8518 is a disconnected Verizon Wireless number. Safe bet this is a scam

caller caled on 8/11 stating that he was from a law firm and i owed national advance payday loan was being sued....

I received a call from 1-714-598-4242.  The guy left a message on my cell, sounded like a call center in India.  Said I needed to get a lawyer and call back and he was very sorry if I did not call back, good luck to me.  I called back several times and only get a busy signal.  Boy am I glad I checked this out here.  Next time he calls I'm telling him I know he is a scam and will report this number to the FBI.  I too have payday loans, this is where they get the information.  Thanks everybody for reporting here and putting my mind at ease.  I have to admit his message left me a little freaked out, said I was in serious legal trouble.  Hah, I work for lawyers, good luck with this one Jack Dawson (the Name he left).

Does anyone know, with all the complaints filed against this "company" if this has ever been reported to the news media?  This may be a good idea, too many people seem to be getting scamed and no one is doing anything about it.

i received a call too.  for a payday loan done back in 2008 now i have done some pay day loans on line before but was pretty i paid them.  but these people said i never paid $300 loan and now is equals to 898.00 like everyone else i got scarred they knew too much so i gave them my debit card number to withdraw $300 and set up the rest in payments when i came to my self and started doing some checking around i realized this was not true there was no way i did this i even checked with the bank to see if i had a deposit for $300.00 in nov. 08 none for the whole year.  i called these idiots back and told them i have been scammed they hung up.  they sound like something that comes from iraq or somewhere.  they even made fun of my american language he said you americans do not know how to speak the american english what is your problem".  they need to go back to where ever they are from and keep riding their camels and leave the american people alone, the economy is bad enough to have to worry about these idiots iam so very pissed!!!!.  Anyway i contacted the bank and they are going to try to get my money back we will see!  what can be done with these people how can our government let this go on!!!!  we need answers!!!

My phone call came to my cell and the voice was a digital woman's voice.  Very hard to discern what was being said.  She said the same things described above, threatening legal action if "she" didn't hear back from me or my attorney.  Stated a name, but I couldn't make it out.  The number given was 714-409-0388.  4/2/09 3:51pm Central time.  I have nothing in collections, but have done payday loans and paid them off to get by, so this is a scam.

I received several messages from a loud, heavily accented woman threatening me into returning her call. She said if I did not call back, then all she could do was wish me luck. I called the number (714-333-2954) back and spoke to a man who sounded of the  same nationality. It sounded like he was calling from a pay phone onthe freeway! He tried to tell me I was being charged with money laundery and said that I received a $500 deposit on 10/2/08. But when I called him out on the date, he changed it to 10/2/07. The scary thing, he knew my bank account number(ironically, I did have $500 deposits on both of those dates) and had my sister and mother in law's names as referrences. He read me an affidavit to me and stated that I needed to turn myself into local authorities or contact my attorney. I just received another call tonight from the same annoying lady but this time it came across as 941-861-8518. When I tried to call back within 10 minutes of receiving the call, I received a message that the number was disconnected or no longer in service. I was not asked for any money but I didn't let get that far....I was so angry when he accused me of money laundering I went off! This is a definte scam and we cannot allow these scumbags to scam anyone else for anymore money!!

I recieved a call today 3/26 that stated I was going to be sued and that there was a lawsuit that was coming into the MD area for me by 11am tomorrow they have the last three digits of my social but nothing else I am taking this to the attornies office.

I got the exact same call tonight from 714-400-0563, except I was told I hadn't paid a payday loan since 2007, I was being picked up by the police tomorrow, my references would go to jail, I would go to jail for 6 years, loose my job my home, everything.  When I tried to get name of payday company to confirm this supposed problem they wouldn't give it to me. Said since I was yelling at him (I was scared and ticked off) that he would show me what the hell he could do to me and he wouldn't save me so I asked what he meant by save me.  I would have to make pay options to him for over $5600.  He was a senior lawyer (I think that is what they said bad bad english very hard to understand) Paul McMillin(Spelling not sure).  I checked my bank records because he would only give me a date and nothing else, called them back and he hug up when I told him my bank prooved he was wrong.   I'm more scared when your message shows what account hit your visa - what the heck is TAC Evolution Babylon NY.  I did search on number comes up Anaheim, CA

This same guy called my wife today saying that if she didn't give him $595 dollars that he was going to have the police come to our home and arrest her and whoever else was on this loan that she had taken out....this guy is a real sad and desprate soul, and from the other responses that I have read could be dangerous.

my call was very scary to me they called and they left a msg threating me and my child this is uncalled for and someone needs to put a stop to it but the Modesto PD say they can't do anything about it i really think they are just to lazy and i have some cop friends that are looking in to this we will see what happens to these people

My mother just called me freaking out saying what all of you are saying! A guy in California told her that she made a loan for $800 and that if she didn't pay it back immidiately she and I would be thrown in jail tomorrow (despite the fact that it's Friday!) I tried to call back to contact them and the line is ALWAYS busy!! This is very scary! I hope this website and  http://800notes.com/ helps those that are/were in our situation. They called me at my work number and my cell number.  I tried calling and I ran into the same situation and now no one is answering me back.

I received a call from this number the mans name was Jonathan Davis. He has VERY broken english and there was alot of noise in the background. He called me from 941-961-8515. When I called that number back immediatly it said the number had been disconnected. I then called the number he left on my voicemail 714-400-0563.When I talked to him he was very hateful to me. When I called him back he said he was from a law firm and he was going to read me an affadavit, that I am a prime suspect in a case. I had gotten a payday loan online and if I didn't pay $1400 right then they were going to come get me and my two reference tomorrow and take us to jail for 7-8 months and I would have to pay $5400. I was very scared. I had a prepain VISA with $125 on it I gave him that number and before I got off the phone the monsy had been debited from the account. My husband called the number back about 6pm and the number was not connected. My husband called back today at 9am and someone answered. What's the deal with that. The name that was on my account that the money had went to was "TAC Evolution Babylon NY". I immediatly called the company I had the card with. The transaction was still being processed so I put a hold on my account so the money would not leave my account. When someone start threatening you and your fa,ily you loose your mind and can't think. I have a baby at home and I am also a public educator you can imagine how upset I was. This guy also know what bank I used, last 4 digits of my social, my mailing address, and my siblings names. This is VERY SCARY!! BEWARE!!!!

I received a call from a different number, but the message left the 714-400-0563 number as a call back. I did try to call back and got a busy signal. I received a call from this number at work.  They claimed to trying to collect a debt from me from some company I have never heard of.  American someting something loan company.  Sorry it was very very hard to understand what they were saying.  When I told him I didn't know who they were he said if you refuse to pay we will come and drag you to court.  I called him out on it and he threatened me with saying he is going to drag me court.  LOL!!! Whatever!

They called my house and I tried to get some info from them.  The same man always answers the phone and it sounds like he is in a box with 100 other people.  He claims they are a lawfirm of the California crime monitoring division.  I don't believe this type of department would be handled by an Indian call center, although the person I talked to denys he even knows what a call center is, lmao!!  The phone number takes about a minute to connect so I know the line is actually going out of the country.  Something very shady is going on with them...
