They left a message that I had a summons that needed to be served. That I needed to call back John Andrews the attorney to avoid legal proceedings. That the complaintant was Michael Murphy. When answering the phone no one said the name of the firm, so I asked the lady said Cohan & Assoc and but me on hold to find my case file #391-24 (case file # left in the message) I was on hold long enought to look up the area code as California, so I hung up. The number I called 714-459-2935

Ok so robert sterling called my phone again but when i call them they never call back also this time when they called they said the number was714- 882-3477 and at first it was 714-459-2935 for a credit card debt he said they sent letters but i never recieved them and when i called they just say how can i directed your call they do not say the name of the company  they want me to pay with a pre paid debt card over the phone so any ideas?

iF THEY SUMMONS YOU. gEE..IF DOGS CRAP GOLD BRICKS..THEY always make claims these collection companies. It's not as easy as it sounds suing someone. There are procedures and a summons is not just something written with crayons and sent out the next day. This collection agency is using typical scare tactics and are playing fast and loose with people. AS FAR AS PROFESSIONALISM..LOL.. they were over the top with their behavior. It was almost cartoonish. Lsten you may owe some money, but they are working for there's..Just remember that!

This is my second post regarding this company. I was unsure if they were legitimate or not but I called them today. I do believe they are. They are representing an old credit card debt of mine from 2004. Original debt was $300, now I owe $2088 and if they summons me it will include court costs to bring the total to over $3000. I asked for documentation and I received it. The woman I spoke with was respectful but unwilling to budge in their procedures. I am still planning to contact the Attorney General and Consumer Protection rights for my state and would advise anyone who has legitimate business with them to check the Statute of Limitations for their state. Also, I made a payment to them in 2008 of $50. BIG MISTAKE! That was an acknowledgement of my debt and essentially restarted the time clock on the SOL (statute of limitations).  In VT the limit is 3 yrs and it's almost there.....I justhave to try to hold them off for another moonth and they won't be able to garnish my wages, which they said they would do and my research thus far supports that they can do that. :(

I called the fullerton police department, and as I suspected their is no law against being a jack***. Unless someone has legitimatly been ripped off  not much one can do.  Id call the better business bureau. Any suggestions!

Iam for calling the cops on these guys.I called them and they became highly volitile . Interesting experience when you speak with them. I just called for s**** and giggles and they surely love to rip people a new one :( They know how to play the system. They don't threaten you in the sense of bodily harm , but they surely go for the proverbial juggular.  Iam all for getting the authories involved, but it has to be done at the local level. As far as I can tell their is not a law for being an asshol; although their should be!

Iam a bit confused as to how their operation works though. How do they expect people to take them seriously when they come accross so unprofessionaly? I can see how people can be bullied into giving them money. Scare tactics and such. Let me know if anyone wants to pursue this.

My parents got a call from these people yesterday saying that they were going to foreclose on both their property and mine in 24 hours for debts we owe. LIE! We do not owe any debts. We live in Kentucky and are not in arrears on anything at all. I tried calling the number this morning and got their voicemail, but I didnt leave my home number just. I hung up since I do not want them having my number.  Anyone can do a net search and also call around to see who owns what. Then they can try to scare people into giving them money. Doesn't mean they are honest. And in this case they aren't. These people are sly crooks but not as sly as they think they are

They had searched around and found my brothers phone number and had first called him and tried to put the scare on. They had also called my nephew trying to phish for information on my daughter and had said she had been indicted and they needed her ss#, d-o-b, address etc. Some guy with a foreign accent talked to my nephew so this thing may be outsourced and most likely is since it will make it harder to track.

My nephew refused to give them any info so they said they were calling the police and sending them to look for her. He told them to go ahead but that she would not be hard to find since she is in jail already [unrelated charge]. Sorry guys but she is a state prisoner and has no debts either, except to herself, God and society!!
They called my nephew a liar over what he said to them so he hung up on them. They called back two more times and he told them off. He is a minor and they had NO right to even ask him a thing, let alone do the name calling.
I called around to my county court clerk and found out there is NO suit against any of us by anyone, period.

I think they have the idea that with the housing problem in this country they can hit upon maybe 5 out of 10 people who are actually in arrears on their property and other debts and that the people will be afraid or too stupid to find out what is going on and try to stop them. They probably figure that if they offer to fix things for a smaller amount than the person owes they will still make a killing stealing from us.

MY idea? Let's all get together and put a class action lawsuit on these people. If someone digs hard enough they can and will be found and  made to stop this nonsense. You all know as well as I do that they are doing this to try to steal from us!!! And, its hard telling how many they have already scared into forking over their money, it could run into the millions. Let me know and I will look for a lawyer to do this if anyone is interested.

Well, it seems this company plays it really fast and loose. Just very questionable how this company is approaching people; especially how they are very nondescript about the debt your being sued for. Also, the fact thre are several numbers with two company names leading back into one voicemail. It would appear from prior posts this is just a collection agency that is being overly agressive. Go on your county's clerk of courts website and see if you have any civil suits pending.

I just received a message from them as well. I haven't received ANYTHING in the mail from the company at all. They want me to call and speak to a lawyer named Michael Murphy. I don't deny that I may have outstanding debt but they said I was going to be served a summons to appear in court tomorrow between 8-4pm. Some previous posts have said they are legit. I'm not sure what to think. I live in Vermont. Can they actually summons me to appear in court in another state?

Called with an unknown number saying they were from legal services and they tried to deliver a summons.Iam 3000 miles away!  They wanted us to call that 714 number. sounds really shady. Than when you call the number they make no mention its a law office and they have no website. Should I be concerned. I never recieved any mail from them either. Seems like a scam.

I got the same call and also got the two different names from the company, i contacted a lawyer and gave them the info and they also can not find anything out about the company, they say it could be a fly by night place and if you havent recieved a bill about what you owe the next time you talk to them ask them to send you one so you have proof that you owe that money, because they want you to pay with a pre paid debit card which if you pay them with it is not traceable.

Before or after all the fees they added to this thing its now over 5000 last i remeber it was only arong 1800-2700 cant remember

Saw this post because my cousin got a call from them. They may or may not be suing you but fyi, your facts are not all correct. They can refer it to an attorney in your state to sue you- I was contacted by an agency in Calif 4 years ago that ended up suing me. I live in Oregon. They referred my account to Law Office of John Unfred in Salem, OR.  who handled the case. Cost me a $6200 in court because I thought they could not sue me from Calif. Oh, and the company that initially contacted me had no internet site as well. Turns out you don't need one to collect or sue debt.

Recieved a call from an unknown number telling me to call 714-459-2935 to speak to a Robert Sterling about judgements for 2 seperate addresses.  When i called the number back a guy that says his name is robert sterling says i am being summons to court for a credit card debt there are two different names for the place henderson and associates and cowen and associates i have been unable to find out anything about them on the internet.  I was told it was about a debt that is over 5 yrs old.  The number is a California area code, I live in Texas.  DEBT COLLECTOR trying to scare people into responding.  Unless you live in the state of California there is nothing they can do to you.

I just receive a call for this number as well, I don't know who these individuals are, and to tell you the truth I have so much going against me already. They can't get blood from a turnip! I owe the IRS and they are my top priority right now, so I don't have a clue what they want with me.

That happened to me as well They garnished my wages when we went to court however like I told the judge and the judge told them they cant do sh*t because I have child support issues and wages are already being garnished for that I had hired an attorney but really didnt need them because they couldnt do nothing to me the judge seemed like didnt need an attorny when he said i was getting wage garnishment until i explained it that i had child support issues the judge asked how many years told him another 12 years he said by them some limitation thing for them to get me would have expired hahahaha f*ck you guys you cant get sh*t the only bad thing you can do to me is report on my report witch sux anyhow they have a jugement against me now I dont know what to tell you Linda or what to advise you but they can take your wages unless you got like 50% of your money already being garnished if so then tell them to fu*k you!

Are you serious?  or are you someone posting from the debt collection agency in an attempt to validate their false claims of subpoenas and summons?

Left a message stating that they were trying to serve a summons and that if I didn't respond I would be held in contempt of court.  Looked up the number and it brought me here.  The cal was from 714-459-2935 a California area code.  Which is funny, I do not live in California.  I called back and they would not tell me the name of the business, or what the "summons" was for.  They kept asking for me to verify personal information at which time I hung up the phone.

I received a call from these people about a month ago regarding a summons.  I just got the summons yesterday and have a court date for the 27th.  I can't believe the served me at work in front of all my coworkers. I tried to work out arrangments with them about 1 hour ago and they told me its too late since I got the summons and they've reassigned my case to an attorney near my court district.  Whats my next step? Should I spend money on a lawyer or should I represent myself?  Please advise!
