That's exactly what happened to my bedridden mother-in-law.  Somehow she got onto endless call lists, almost all of them from scammers who wanted to sell her a "free" gadget that carried a $20 or higher "service and handling fee," which was explained in an incomprehensible bum's rush toward the end of the call.  She even got calls at her phone in the hospital.  She never ordered anything, so it wasn't as if she'd offered herself up as bait.  I think the scammers are working from AARP lists and the like, as elderly people tend to be easier to scam than others.

Another BS alarm scam. I don't answer the phone unless I'm expecting a call and recognize the caller I.D. And I don't even bother to turn my cell phone on any more. It's for my convenience, not some scammer meth tweaker.  Anyone who needs to get in touch with me can leave a v-mail, send me an e-mail or a text.  Life is much simpler if you just ignore the hypes, idiots and morons.

Can you really blame people for misunderstanding deliberately scammy and deceptive markteting like this? The entire point is to confuse and deceive people who don't know any better. They technically skirt the legal definition of fraud, but aren't exactly acting in good faith.

The only calls I get are from Rachael/Heather/Johnathan from card member services who NEVER have the same number twice and pressing 9 to get on the do not call list doesn't work and this fricking company. I guarantee 90% of the illegal calls are these two companies. I don't get calls from local legitimate companies any more. So the DNC list does work, it just unfortunately doesn't stop these con artists.

robo-call citing some fbi stats. security system sales plus put free yard-sign. get numerous of these from them. somebody needs to show them what an oak baseball bat can do since legal methods of stopping them seem in disuse

They claim to use FBI statistics in order to sell a security system... But since they are engaging in UNLAWFUL activity by calling numbers that are on the Do Not Call registry, how could anyone trust them in the first place? My number is on the DNC registry... they called me.... Therefore, they're CROOKS themselves.

These jerks called me 8 times yesterday.  Rang my phone off the wall every few minutes for an hour.  I work nights and usually don't hear the phone but their incessant calling woke me up.  I'm beyond fed up and I blame AARP.  I'm relatively certain they have sold their member lists to telemarketers.

Jeez, chill out.  Just because you are on the DNC list, doesn't mean they are going to quit calling.  The robo calls start with a block of numbers and call them consecutively.  They are made with a computer, not a person.  The telemarketer calls that are actually made by people will stop if you get inventive. A metal whistle blown into the phone can work wonders.

Blocking numbers doesn't stop them.  They just use another number to call you.

Instead of complaining, try being proactive.  I have a fax machine attached to my home phone line.  I let it ring long enough to see if it's somebody I want to talk to, if not, I let the fax get it.  Doesn't take them long to stop calling once they figure out they are getting a fax signal.

Same way with my cell.  If it's a number I don't recognize, I don't answer it.  Just turn the sound off til it quits ringing.  If it's anybody important, they'll leave a message.  If they don't, I mark them as a telemarketer.

My life is much too important to let these people get to me.

Rumor has it that due to the large volume of complaints, the FTC is now printing out our complaints on these special rolls of biodegradable paper.  Once the roll is full it is stored until a sufficient number of them accumulate.  Then they distribute them to all of the restrooms in the FTC office buildings for further processing and so that the complaints can be quickly "flushed" from their system. I guess that it is part of the paperwork reduction thing and saves money for the government.

If you check Panasonic's website you'll find they have several models that will block 250 numbers now AND you can choose to have the ringer go silent on all blocked calls,(type "blocks 250 callers" into their search box, find the model and search wallyworld). I have the one that blocks 30 calls and I've filled it so many times it's not funny. On top of that it rings once even though the numbers blocked and that gets old quick. I found the model that blocks quietly online at Walmart dot com and am more than happy to pay a hundred dollars for a phone like that,...saving up for it now. I think it was 3 or 4 phones w/ answering machine for less than a hundred and it can sync with your cell. Yay Panasonic!

All they do is reference FBI statistics, I hang up as soon as I can

They want to install a home security system

They are annoying and they change numbers so you can't report them, because all they do is go into another line

Just where are you getting your misinformation?

It doesn't cost anymore for a robo call to call a cellphone than a land line. It's just more illegal. And that's got the backing of the cellphone companies.

The U.S. Senate has not made spoof calls legal. That sounds like the BS from a Right-wing news (sic) source.

The Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009, which was signed into law Dec. 22, 2010, prohibits caller ID spoofing for the purposes of defrauding or otherwise causing harm.  In June 2010, The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted rules implementing the Truth in Caller ID Act.

The problem comes in 2 parts.

(1) the exemption of political, charities, and surveys from the DNC list. Any nut group can claim to be a political entity, any non-profit is exempt (including the NFL, NHL and PGA), and claiming to be a survey is an opening big enough to the meteor that did in the dinosaurs.

(2) Business-friendly political parties have interfered with the enforcement of the DNC list.

I have to buy one of those newer panasonic phones. Mine currently blocks 20 calls, which is great but to have the option to block 50 unwanted scam callers? Yes, I'll take one!

My kitchen phone is plugged into the wall jack but the unit sits on the counter so if a scam call comes in, I will unplug the phone from the wall and wait a minute to plug it back in. It used to be annoying but now it's getting fun! I also do not answer unknown calls.

Thanks for the tip!

My number is on the do not call list already and it is not listed. The only people that have my number is my wife and me. Im about to go to Anahiem and find the b*****d that keeps calling me and rip the phone out of their hands and shove it up where the sun don't shine "AKA SUE THE S*** OUT OF THEM"

Recorded call starting with an ominous warning about an FBI report that a home is broken into every 15 seconds and that the local police suggest you install a home security system.  They were pitching a home security system at no cost (for installation and equipment).  Press 1 to talk to them and 9 to be added to "their" Do Not Call List.  Caller ID read ANAHEIM CA.

So I got a call today from this number it was annoying because it rang as I was up going into the other room, rings 2 times then they hung up as I am picking up phone on my deck.  I called back and got the same recording other people mentioned, but I did not push 1 I just hung up.  It says to do so if you are not interested in their service or products or company push 1, but it does not say what that is nor who they are.

Seriously who ever signs up for this stupid junk anyway? Truly I suspect this call is not what it appears and is in fact part of some covert surveillance BS by people who do not love the earth instead they love death & destruction - you know who you are and you can all shove off.  What a crock man this is what my tax dollars go towards? I would not be surprised if that guy in Russia one day says this is another one of those things that they do, you know what I mean.  What a joke.
