Out of the blue I got a call from this number and they talked about PG&E which is a Santa Clara County energy provider and my furnace. They hung up on me shortly after telling them my furnace wasn't that old

Caller states they are with a group sponsored by PGE providing no-obligation audits of heating and cooling units over 12 years old. I was told this is related to rebates offered by PGE. At first it seems like a telemarketer but am labeling them a "scammer" as they mislead you by dropping PG&Es name.
Caller would not give a company name. Was insistent on scheduling a time for representatives to come to my home and check my heating system. This is a big scam so beware.
PG&E knows nothing about this and claim they cannot stop people from calling PG&E customers or from using PG&E's name to peddle any service. They do recommend that you ask for an employee ID and verify the credentials of anyone who shows up at your home claiming to work with PG&E.
I am registered on the national do not call list but still they keep calling me. When I call them back I typically don't get an answer or am connected to a fax machine!!!

I get a call from this number every once in a while. They never leave a message.
Robyn 2011-06-06 20:55:24 Unknown
We also get calls every day, no one ever replies when we say hello.
Craziest thing.
I am just not going to answer anymore.

After several attempts to call this number back I finally reached a live person. When I asked them who called me they claimed that "a computer did" and they are just a call center. After I asked what the calls were regarding the representative went into his pitch about that they were calling regarding energy audits and wanted to find out how old my furnace was. I told them that we are on the "Do Not Call List" and asked him to take me off their list. They didn't even give a company name so I do not know how to officially report a scam alert. If anyone finds the name of the company it would be great to let everyone know so we can put a stop to these suspicious calls. Something is wrong with how they are getting our information and the fact that they are calling someone that is on the Do Not Call Registry is a major privacy violation.

Keep getting calls from this number. If it is an "Energy Update" why would they be calling the Bay Area from Orange County? Never anyone on the line if we pick it up.
M 2011-06-06 20:55:24 Unknown
Asked to speak to me or my husband. when I asked what was it regarding, there was a pause, then 'I don't want to tell you' and they hung up. Said in an annoyed tone as thought I was being rude to them. a$$es.
Riptide 2011-06-06 20:55:24 Unknown
Answer the phone. Guys says he is doing an energy audit for PGE and asks how old our furnace is. I reply 8 years. He then asks if we have solar on the roof. I reply no. Silence and then hang up. Definitely a weird call. Wondering if they are putting together a mailing list for furnace or solar companies to contact. Area code is Orange County, CA. PG&E is a SF bay area thing. I'm assuming everyone getting called is Northern California like I am.

These a**es asked me 2 questions and hung up before I could say I am on the do not call list. I confirmed with PGE it isn't their company calling. When I call the number it rings unanswered.

I've been getting 2-3 calls a week. Caller ID says "Energy Update." After I answer, there is a pause of a few seconds and then they hang-up. Noise in the background sounds like an office. I can hear faint voices.
I'm getting very tired of these games. They keep calling over and over again. When I try calling back, all I get is a busy signal.

I had a message on my answering machine at 7:20PM.
Message said "I'd like to get a hold of this f..king girl."
Oh and now I'd like to get a hold of him. I tried calling the number - but no answer.
I did have a call on a different line earlier about my furnace. I told the girl who called that we don't use PG&E in the city of Santa clara.

Received a call from this number, with the caller ID tag of "Energy Update" shortly after I attempted to join "homepower magazine". Caller did not respond to my hello's...
I supplied only an email address, and did not join, so I find it slightly interesting if they tracked me down and attempted contact - based on email alone - within a few minutes.
It is possible that this is a coincidence, but extremely unlikely.

I had a message on my answering machine with this number and "Energy Update" listed as the caller ID. You could tell the guy didn't realize that he didn't disconnect before the answering machine kicked in. He was telling whoever he was talking to how fine some chick was that he works with in whatever office they are calling from. Sounds like a bunch of morrons who ever they are!

The number was blocked when they called me, but it was the same thing other people are saying. He tried to make it sound like he was from the utility or the government and was purposefully confusing. He was condescending and manipulative. I repeatedly tried to clarify who he was and he would just make these real slimey pitches, leaning on words: "your *old* heater", "you can save energy, and that's a *good* thing". He was repetitive. I finally interrupted and he was like: "You have some questions about what we were doing, so I just wanted to make sure that you understood the incentive program." And I said, "I was asking *who* you are, not *what* you are offering." And he said "A**hole" and hung up on me. What a peach. Don't give these fellows any business.

Have had multiple calls for weeks now. I just don't answer them. It is annoying, however, to have to stop what you are doing and check the caller ID when the phone is ringing. Am on the DNC list, but somehow filing a complaint doesn't seem to stop the problem.

Got a call from this number just now. they knew my name and asked how old my furnace was. i jokingly said "Ancient!" and he laughed and said he was calling from the "gas company"(whotf is "the gas company"?! PG&E sells me gas). He wanted to send someone to my house and said there was some deal from the "gas company" for an "energy upgrade" (the name that came up on the caller id) for a free/discounted furnace. i stalled while i looked online and found it was a scam, told him not to call back and that im on the dnc list and hung up. WTF it smelled so fishy, but i let him waste my time for a bit because i really do need a new furnace. these horrible a***oles are taking advantage of people! i will be reporting them to PG&E, BBB, and if they contact me again i will sue.71

Got this response from a consumer advocacy team from a local news station:
We're sorry to hear about your experiences with
the telemarketing company which is violating Do Not Call laws. I
would suggest noting the date, time and company who calls. Get a
specific employee name if possible. Inform them calmly that they are
in violation of federal law and that you will exercise your legal
right to sue them for $500 per call if they continue to contact you.
Also, inform them that you are filing a complaint with the Federal
Trade Commission, and make sure to follow-up on that. You can file a
complaint online:

I get calls from these dopes too. I sent a request for assistance or info from a local news station that runs consumer stories on a regular basis and this was their reply:

The usual: I received these calls frequently, and whether I let it ring for my answering machine to pick up or answer it myself, the calling person or system hangs up. My number has been in the National Do Not Call registry for years. If I try to call back, I get a busy signal, or a rerouting tone that usually goes nowhere. This time, after staying on the line for perhaps 8 minutes, the phone picked up asking to speak to some unknown name, and claiming that they had called out rather I calling back in. The lady at the other end claimed not to have any phone number (nonsense) and was very hesitant to identify who or what was calling. On pressing her, she said it was "The Home Center" in Orange County.

I've gotten several I haven't answered. Tonight they asked me how old was my HVAC system. I said 6 years and they hung up. I reported it to PG&E because they said they were PG&E. I'm sure they weren't.

Craig 2009-10-20 03:10:00 Unknown
The caller initially paused, and I could hear something like typical office noise, then he threatened me, "Craig, I want my money, and I'm coming for you." That's a direct quote, and I've got it saved on my voicemail.

Keep getting calls from this number, the user ID says Midway City, CA. Annoying. Nobody there if you pick up. Midway City is in Orange County and I am in the Bay Area.
