Many of those calls are made by the Mumbai Mobsters.  They want money, and tell the willing scammees wonderful stories, in order to milk them of their money.

There are such laws ... several of them, in fact!
However, criminals tend to disobey laws, didn't you know that?

This kind of thing is so rampant that people even talked about it on the radio.  I don't believe these people are real telemarketers.  So, what are their motives making calls like this?  Don't they have anything better to do?  Are they bored housewives? prisoners? government workers? mental case?  Why isn't anybody doing anything about it?  Why isn't there a law for harassing calls?

Called at 8:16 PM, did not recognize the number, did not answer.

That number has called several times with no message left.  The caller info showed up as unknown number.  Today I answered the call and the caller proceeded to say that she was from Edison and that I may qualify for a cost saving program then disconnected our call.  (Also, the caller knew my name).

Me too, i answered and he used abusive vulgar language. I call HBPD and they helped me block the number

Just got a call from that number. Bo message, too.

Got a call from this number said hello 3 times some person said this is a notice and hung up. Called number back no answer.

Called and said he was from the Edison company - our area doesn't use Edison!!!  Not professional either - what a hoax.

Called and after 2 hellos, I hung up

Me too, around 11:00 AM. Didn't answer, but tried calling back. Big surprise - it's a non-working number. Probably just another lowlife telemarketer spoofing a number and violating the DNC. May they all burn in Hades.

Leaves no voice mail.
