These people have been calling me for nearly a  year.  They call my work and my cell phone. They threaten to have me arrested, even though I tell them that we don't have debtors prison in the US, they just keep on calling.  I know it is a scam and the FBI has an entire webpage about these scams and how they work.  I have never agreed to pay anything and I have repeatedly explained that I know what they are doing and that our FBI has an entire webpage devoted to educating the public about their scam.  After I tell them this and hang up, they call right back in about 30 seconds.  They still don't stop calling.  They stop for a while and then start back up.  It is very annoying.

yes they are a scam. They have been calling me since September. At first I was like you I also am a single mother and didn't want to go to jail.  They had me so upset I called my attorney he told me that these people hacked into a database of people who in the past had payday loans. They were trying to get money from us. My attorney said the best thing to do is change your phone number.  I can't do that,  so now its a game.  They call and sometimes I act like I'm going to pay then other times I've blown a whistle in the phone,  a couple times I've started with my attorney said and they hang up,  I've told them that I was an attorney, a police offficer.  I figure sooner or later they will figure it out that I'm on to them.  My attorney said that the easiest why to tell that it is a scam is if they will not give you a physical address to send money they are a scam.  Another thing you need to do is call the FTC Federal Trade Commision and your state attorney general,  they can't do anything directly to them but you are giving them this information to have on file.  Eventually enough people will report them and they will find them and have them arrested.

This just happened to me too, they called from this same number and once i answered it, i immediately hung up.  I just had this happen to me about 3 weeks ago with a different number and name, i went to the police and they took all the information i had about this guy.  He gave me my whole account number, address, home, cell and work phone numbers, he even had the last four of my social.  I had to go to the bank and close out all my accounts and open new ones.  A huge hassle!  But I didn't send any money thank god!

I j/ got a call from a number in California someone filed a lawsuit against me for an online payday loan - they told me my full checking account information and everything but wouldn't tell me anything else - I asked how much the loan was for and wouldnt tell me - they said they would tell me more at the court house!

My husband j/ called the number back and it was a man that answered and acted like he had no idea what was going on.

I'm not sure if he could have done that or not.  My guess would be that the fax # they gave him was immediately deactivated as soon as they got his fax though which would have prevented him from sending any additional faxes.

I usually call my attorney and give him the names and numbers and let him deal with them. The calls are slowing down a lot since I've done this.

I just got a cll from these creeps.  I;m glad I read this info before paying a dime.  They want me to western Union money to a financial officer and then they would not report this to the court and no arrest will be made.  But they want the money.
When I told them they are violating the fair credit reporting act, the caller got nasty and said the officers of the court will be at my residene tomorrow.  Thid is definitely a scam.

I had call at work today from this number.  Had it before too.  He asked to speak to me.  I told him there is no one by that name here.  He then called my cell phone.  This is the same voice that also works out of nyc.  I had blocked calls from them too.  they leave me voice mails.  Saying that i owe this money and if they don't hear from me or my attorney, they will arrest me and all he can say is "GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS". I know its a scam but how do u get them to quit calling your cell phone.  Its terrible. almost every day or every other day at least.

Hi Tgirl... Have a quick question... a friend of mine has also been ivolved in something like this but his problem was with written authorization... if he had found out sooner that it was in fact a scam, would he have been able to revoke his written consent with another fax to the lying creeps.. They asked him to write down word for word what they said along with his acct info and all, he was out $450.. not that he's going to fall for that again now since I pointed him to this website... Thanks for any help you can give:)

Good.....you should be ok then as long as they don't have any access to your debit or credit card or your bank account.  Just tell them to get lost if they call again and that should (hopefully) be the end of it.  I've had these calls too and my experience is that once you tell them to get lost the calls stop for a time, but they do start again....just keep telling them no dice and they do go away for a while and the time between calls gets longer each time.  My feeling is that eventually they will stop.  Just remember that nobody can put you in jail for a debt and that you have the right to have any debt owed presented to you in writing before paying it, so if someone calls you with threats and/or refuses to provide validation of the debt it writing that is a scam and you can simply ignore it.

This is definitely a scam.  It's a shame you have already given them $250.00, but fear not and do not give them one penny more.  Just don't even call them back or anything.  They may contact you Friday (or after) when you don't come up with any more money.  If they do, just tell them that you know this is a scam, that you aren't giving them one more cent and that they can feel free to send the police and arrest you.....they can't and they won't arrest you, believe me.  My only other question would be how did you pay them the first $250.00?  Was it by debit card or through your bank account?  If so, I would strongly suggest closing that account or that debit card before Friday so they don't try to take any more of your money.  Good luck and, again, fear not....nobody will be coming after you - this is a total scam.

I sure wish I'd seen this website before shelling out my hard earned money.. I received a call yesterday while driving from a Paul Martin at 714-882-1910 (the number originally came up 911, thinking someone was injured, I answered it). He said he was calling from either Merker or Mercer Grace Law Firm (couldn't make out the first part due to the heavy foreign accent) Anyway, he said that I owed outstanding money on a loan, he said the name of the loan company so fast I couldn't understand it (it's suppose to be the mother company for multiple payday loan companies). When I tried to question him on things I didn't understand, he got angry and started spewing out that if I didn't pay what was owed he would have an officer Black (again couldn't make out the first name) come to my home to arrest me and "take me to courthouse" , he even asked what time I would be home and if I would want the officer to either come to my work or home. I got nervous, being a single parent, I didn't want to go to jail, I asked if I could find the money somehow, he gave me an hour... well I couldn't find the whole total ($1976), called back to offer $250, he agreed but said I needed to pay the balance by Friday and transferred me to an Eric Foster (said he was a financial investigation advisor), was given 3 options of payment deliveries, I stupidly sent it through MoneyGram, was told to make it out to a Ray Raleigh in St. Louis, Mo. It felt like a scam the whole time, but again was in fear of my child losing his only parent... Does anyone have any thoughts on this company? If this really sounds like a scam? I'm on a very tight budget and can't afford to lose anymore money or even my child over this..
