Debt Collector
Hello all- we all know it's a total scam. Due to the fact that they are not representing themselves as debt collectors, they are breaking the law. I called, asked if this was HW and Associates because that's the name they leave on the message regarding their "legal matter". Of course when you call, they just answer "uh...hello". Nice law firm!

I just let them know that I know what they are doing, it is illegal and I will be reporting th to the attorney general of New York. The only way to stop these a***oles is to let them know what they are doing is not legal and that you will take action.
If everyone on this post put the same information in a letter or e-mail to the New York attorney general, they will probably be shut down.

Good luck... This will at the least, keep them from contacting you again.

Right.  These guys chase Zombie Debt.  It is debt that has been assigned to more than one collector and was purchased for pennies on the dollar.  Calling the original creditor is the smart play.

Automated recording saying they were calling about a returned check from my financial institution and to call
patricia collins at HOGAN AND WINEBERG (7163321646). I called and asked for Patricia the punk on the other end said he could help me. He told me I had an over draft from my bank for $571.83 I told him to give me the account number and I would call the bank first and then call him back ,he told me twice not to mention to my bank that he had called and that the sooner I got back to him he would be able to work with me and possible lower the amount he claimed I owed. I called my bank they said I did not have an over draft.
The account number that the punk gave me was BS.

I got a message stating that I had a check that was returned and that I needed to call Hogan & Weinberg asap at 716-332-1646.  I knew that this was not the case and that the information on the message was very vague.  When I called to find out what was going on the lady on the other end said their was a summons being issued for a Tyler Newell.  I told her that I did not know who Tyler Newell was and that she must have the wrong number.  She then began asking me a bunch of questions as to why I called back if I was not Tyler Newell.

Just got the same harassing phone calls from this company and it is linked to 1-855-209-3594. This is a scam and I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. All they do is threaten and never follow through. Do not give them any info and ignore the phone call. FTC already has this company on a list with others that are being sued by the FTC on behalf of consumers. The calls eventually go away.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Constantly receiving calls and voicemails to my office and was threatened repeatedly when I did call back. All bull and nothing to worry about. They're just trying to scam you out of money with scare tactics. Ignore these calls. I complained to the FTC, hoping they'll look into it eventually.

I called this number and it turns out it is a debt that I owe that I completely forgot about I offered to pay it off immediately with a cashiers check if they would send me a bill in writing- they wanted a credit card over the phone. I asked how do I know I'm giving my cc info to a legitimate company? They said we have your SS#. I said in this day and age that's not hard for a hacker to find, my bank account was hacked a few years back and I had to close it and open a new account. They went on to say I would likely be served in the next 10 days if I didn't pay. I told them to go ahead and serve me. I'll just tell the judge that I have a right to receive the debt in writing but you refused and tried to bully me into giving my cc info over the phone. Then I was told I would receive a letter within 10 business days. That was 6 months ago and now they've started calling again. I will continue to refuse paying them until I receive something legitimate in writing.

"Investigator" Brook Taylor and Mr. Hogan keep calling about check fraud and a pending arrest with a court date of October 2. They used the last four digits of my ss number and said I'd be served within 24 to 48 hours. It's now been a couple of weeks. Since I don't ever write checks and haven't for many years, knew this was a scam. They call daily several times a day and leave messages. I figured they were scammers so googled their name and found this site. I'm waiting, meantime, for somebody to come arrest me. Boy will that be a hoot since my father is a federal court judge!

So this number is one of the call back numbers, but the actual number that calls is 443-478-3961. They never say my name, social or give important information that will tell me that it is actually me committing the crimes they are saying. Where the message is supposed to say one or more of those items it's just dead air.

One week it's check fraud the next a court summons. They have even gone as far as to contact my brother inlaws ex-wife's father for this "issue". What a joke? Please be careful. If it was a warrant/court order they have to deliver it to you. If they can't get a hold of you at the very least there would be record of it online or at the court house. I'm not in hiding in anyway. If this was true they would be able to find me other than calling obscure people.

How do these people sleep at night?

I?m sure this is a collection agency. The call came from 716-332-1646 (twice in the last week). The voice mail said to call 855-255-3728 concerning check fraud. They don't say who they are looking for. And they claim to know your social security number. A collection agency has been calling my cell phone number (periodically) for 3 years, trying to find someone called Shirley. I think these incidents are related. I honestly don?t know how to get them to stop. They change numbers or agencies. Someone posted the following information about the current agency.
- They call from  716-332-1643
- They are located at 2190 Marina Dr Hamburg, NY 14075
- The owner is Mark Lesinski, per NY Sec of State filing date 5/11/2012 SOS filing# 4244429.
- They have no real power. They use scare tactics that violate the FDCPA as well as numerous state laws.
- The Home # for Mark Lesinski is 716-649-6345
I'm considering calling Mark Lesinski to verify that he's behind the calls and try to get him to stop.

They have been calling for over two months. The messages they leave change with each call. At first they tried to say that they had a warrant in my name. Then they said it was a court summons. The calls backed off a little bit, then, and only accused me of having bounced a check. Today the message has ramped up to accuse me of check and bank fraud. Here's the catch; none of that is true. I have not had a bank account in over ten years (and even then, I never bounced checks or committed any type of fraud). The recorded messages from this company have spots where a name and/or social security number should be plugged in but the messages never have anything but silence in that part. They never use my name or other identification information. This place is a scam. Do not take their calls and do NOT try to give them money.

I had once left my phone number in a Craigslist ad selling a motorbike. I kind of wonder if that's how they got a hold of it. It is unlisted and not on another other call-bot's radar.

This jerk keeps calling all of my family members and says he is going to sue them for a debt that is not thers. He has gotten SS# of all of my family members and they are getting afraid that they are going to be sued.
This jerk is stupid, he is trying to tell me that I have stolen property and that I will be served papers. I told him once papers are served then we can settel this in court if it is true. But this is the worst collection company ever. They have broken so many laws governing debt collecting just with my family members they can be put out of business.
For one there is no way a credit account that is unsecured can ever be collected against. The original Wells Fargo sold it to this sorry collection company. If they are calling you or your family this can be stopped. They are breaking the law by telling family members that they are co-signers on a credit account that they have never been a part.
They will not give me their name of the company. As most of you already know they are not successful and will never get the little money that they bought from the big banks. LMAO!!!!
