This can be a model case for educating the public on this issue. While your incarcerated daughter may be answering to real fraud charges as part of a sentencing, it is STILL ILLEGAL for a debt collector to threaten her with jail time as a means of extorting payment! That money paid to Jones was utterly wasted. You as PoA holder should *already* be warming up a FDCPA lawsuit.

Naturally they are coming back for a double dip on the theory that the alleged debtor is a soft target already soaked in guilt, and knowing her freedom to act is limited. I would bet neither of you bothered to mount a proper dispute of this debt claim, which for all you know is a phantom. You are never getting that "misdirected" check returned or any peace from this outfit until you stop taking their lies as holy writ and force them to submit to state and federal laws which restrict their mind games.

Follow that link I gave to Sam up there and please learn your rights before you lose any more ground.

I'm happy you were saved in the nick of time. If you get friendly with the FDCPA and your state laws, you will know next time how to spot the signs that someone is out to rape your assets. Any collector making threats of arrest, imprisonment, asset seizure, or litigation hasn't a leg to stand on and is seriously violating your rights.

My daugther is serving time in an Arizona prision for some bad choices like check fraud & forgery. I get a call from Paul Jones & Associates stating that she defaulted on a payday loan & that they were goinig to add at least 3yrs more to her sentence, but they were gonna give her a chance to clear everything up if she responded with the amount that they reguested within 4weeks. They said to send it to "Paul Jones & Associates, 5360 Ste. 305, Bowmansville, NY 14026. She sent them what they wanted out of her funds at the prision. The next phone call that I get is that the check should have been made to "Sole Soulions' & could we issue another check immediately to avoid further prosecution. They said that they were gonna send the wrong check back. My daughter does not have alot of control over what she can & can not do right now, & one those things is issuing a new check from the same bill that she already paid, which has never been returned to her account so that she can re-issue one. Being on the outside & having power of attorney over my daughter's welllfare, we have documentation of doing everthing that they have reguested so if they decide to continue with their allogations we will see them in court with our attorney.

Payday loans are so controversial because of their outrageous interest rates, they have been banned in several states and if you live in one of the states where they are illegal, you're in luck because the laws play in your favor.  You are under no obligation to pay them back because the payday lenders charge you such high fees to renew the loan, they add up to being more than what the original loan was.  Essentially, you have already paid them back DOUBLE or even TRIPLE, and that's how they make their profits.  The threatening collection tactics are just other means of swindling consumers out of more money.  In the state of GA, a payday lender can be criminally charged with racketeering.  Don't feel bad for owing any money to these crooks because you really don't and they're scum.  Be careful who you give your information to.  Treat all these people like you would any scam artist because that's what they are.  Address all complaints  to the FTC and the BBB, if possible.  If you feel it's necessary, notify the FBI.  Payday loans should be banned nationwide.

Just as long as you keep all your records of payments you should be able to prove that you did pay.  I use to get calls from the stage 3 group but I refused to acknowledge anything.  I did owe for an old loan and just like you Joe Williams called and I made arrangements with him.

today, July 12,2011, I received a call from Mr. Joe Williams. He said he was with Paul Jones and Associates. He said that he was calling in regards to a Cashnet loan from 2009. I do owe this debt, and in May I set up a payment plan with the Stage III Group. This loan is now mostly paid. He told me that my record showed that I had paid $0 on this loan. He advised me to call him back with the info regarding my payment arrangement. At this point, I'm thinking that I have paid $250 to a fraudulent company.I'm glad I found this web page. Now I know what's going on.

I talked to a Mr Joe Williams regarding an old payday loan.  After doing some research I come to find out that there was a 200. deposit into my acct in 2009.  I agreed to pay 362.00 thats 162.00 more than what the original deposit was.  He was very accommodating and worked out a payment plan so that I could pay this back.  If you think this is  a legitimate loan then just work something out.  If its not your loan tell them its not yours and send them a cease and desist letter to stop calling you.

Seems to me if you can obtain a US address for Jones you'll easily prevail in a FDCPA lawsuit for several violations. Learn how to exercise your rights as an alleged debtor at FTC-dot-gov.

I too, received a phone call from Mr. Diamond.  He claimed to be some attorney and that his company, or "firm," was Paul Jones & Associates.  He said I had a pending fraud case against me for a payday loan from a year and a half ago.  I immediately told him I wasn't buying a word of it.  He got very rude when I questioned him and he refused to give me his address.  When he wouldn't give me any information, I hung up.  Fortunately, he never called back.  I'm going to file a complaint with the FTC and the BBB.
Sorry about your identity being stolen.  It's time to stand up to these jerks!

Mr. Diamond just called me from this phone number and stated he represented Paul Jones & Associates. The man who called was rude, would not offer an address or verify who the original debt was from. Repeatedly called my phone back at work after being told not to call again. I have filed a report with ftc, and I will be forwarding the name and phone number of this company to the detective who handled my identity theft case. Someone stole my identity over two years ago and these people are trying to collect on a debt that does not belong to me. Get a life crooks! I am rolling up my sleeves, I have nothing but time and patience so bring it on! Someone has to stop this madness!
